Awesome- great shots of the eggs and that chalice ? thought he was mixing up some fish food ?

Did you set him up his own tank yet?

So , any chance of the eggs surviving in a tank not specifically for rearing?

Thanks bro!

Nope, we haven't started making our own food yet but once I do I will definitely let him help he loves being helpful especially with fish stuff :) No I haven't even gotten his room finished being remodeled yet.... but once I get that and the siding done we are slapping a for sale sign in the yard. I have one or two 20 longs a 10g and a 14g biocube sitting in the basement waiting for something tho so in the new place he will get one I'm sure!

Survival of the eggs is minimal at best, but the parents are doing a great job guarding them and I feed alot of small particle foods and have alot of bacteria and what not so who knows..... tho they would likely become fish food quickly themselves especially with the vacuum cleaner anthias lol

Moving? Where you plan on going? Staying in Mi? Tearing down the frag tank and 150- whew - sounds like a job for sure

Yeah we are looking at moving back to Grand Blanc, much better schools! We've thought about leaving the state and its still a possibility but GB is the most likely option right now. The 150 will suck alot more then the frag system, which will be fully down before then.

You can put quite a few wrasses in that size tank, I'd take him up on it before he changes his mind lol In my old 70g I had....

2x hooded fairy wrasses (M&F)

2x potters leopard wrasses (M&F)

1x meleagris leopard wrasse

1x ornate leopard wrasse

1x female solorensis wrasse

and for a short time 1x yellow fin flasher wrasse

I also had a yellow tang, 2 clowns, a cardinal and 2x bartlett anthias..... I think thats everything LOL

My leopard has been hiding alot more lately and I think I found out why, my clowns are laying eggs right now so probably been harrassing her because she likes to hang around their turf. It looks healthy when it is out so I'm not overly concerned at this point.

Mollies don't eat detritus, they eat algae. Flow and skimmer eat detritus :) I prefer the mollies over guppies (which I believe will also eat algae...) because they are easy to convert to SW. Guppies take about a week from what I have heard but I've never attempted it. I used to have a FW tank as a kid and guppies mate like crazy, I seriously had probably 100 LOL

OK, so 13 fish, that means I can start planning for 5-8 more wrasses! Fairies are pretty sweet, too. It sounds like it was an amazing tank to watch everyone swimming around. I assume everyone got along well. Happen to have any videos?

I'll have to spend some time with google about mollies. They sound like a great alternative to tangs in a small tank. Yeah, we had guppies as a kid and always had a ton of them too. Eventually though there was only this silver tetra left. It jumped at least 5 times. I'd come home from school to find it dried up on the carpet and toss it back in. Always rehydrated and carried on. weird/cool little fish.

Thanks! I've had these guys together for probably 5 yrs now. The female is my 1st fish I ever got in the hobby however many years ago that was. They used to mate in my 70g but haven't that I know of in a couple years now... guess they are finally happy again.

That said I haven't seen my leopard at all today which is a bummer its been doing really good. It likes to hang around the area the clowns laid their eggs so I am hoping they didn't beat it to badly protecting their area or something.

Awww. She knew it was the season for eggs and contributed. Hope your wrasse is OK, just spooked

I would have added more fish to that tank, but it met an untimely death when the tank blew a seam :( I like fairy wrasses as well, definitely add some exciting color and movement. I plan to add a couple down the road, and some more flashers as well. Alot of the flashers look very similar other then their fins but having multiples is kinda cool because they will increase their activity and flash at eachother alot :)

Mollies are definitely a great alternative or even addition to tangs IMO. I am actually thinking about getting a few more soon. They can be switched over within a couple hours and some even have success just dropping them straight into SW!

The leopard came out for a while today, so I did two large feedings  I think the clowns and maybe even the larger anthias were a bit much for her yesterday she is still really timid.... going to try to add a few more leopards soon and see if she can find some comfort in numbers kinda thing lol

those pics of the eggs at awesome. You are making me want to go buy some chalices!

Thanks! If you really want some chalices I can hook ya up I've got frags I want to get off my sand .... http://www.nano-reef...es-and-a-favia/

Cool you gonna raise them?

Nope, free fish/ coral food. They are just regular occys (well pops is a misbar) so nothing fancy and I don't really have anywhere local to unload them so I'd just end up with a ton of clowns

Wow- those egg pics are awesome! And that FTS- look at all those colors and room ?. So how long do clowns need to be together before they will lay eggs? Mine have been together for about 10 months and they sexed about 8 -months ago and the female is substantially larger- lets get this going ?

Thanks man. Yeah there is definitely alot of room still unlike yours ;)

I really don't know I think it all depends on the pair. These guys have been together probably atleast 5 years now.... they laid for a while a few years back in my 70 but after that split they haven't to my knowledge since so it is kinda cool to know things are going good and they are happy enough to be gettin busy  They have become aggressive little pricks again tho while guarding the eggs which has led to my leopard not being out as much. I'm hoping the LFS gets in some more leopards I'm gonna try a safety in numbers routine LOL

5yrs- congrats - that's awesome! Do they both go after the wrasse- or just momma?

I was going to say add more but looks like that's what you are planning. Spread out the aggression, always worked back when my discus would pair in a community tank.

Thanks. I've had momma for like 7-8 or whatever its been that I've been in the hobby now. She was our 1st SW fish. They both go after anyone that comes close. The 1st couple days they were keeping EVERYONE on the opposite end of the tank. They have relaxed and their zone has shrunk down to about 10" LOL

Yeah thats what I am hoping for. Also this one is kinda small and isn't eating as vigorously as I'd like just yet so hoping getting a few more will get a good eater or two and show her how its done :) She is eating a little tho atleast so I'm not to worried but she is looking a little thinner then I'd like at this point.

Saw the egg pics, very very cool. After my female laid eggs the male tried to do something, then ended up either eating most of them or knocking them off.

Yeah I think it is fairly common for them to screw up the 1st few batches, either way free food for somebody I'm sure lol
