No issues with my Zoa's and this light. My zoa's are the farthest away from the light in my tank and all open up and seem fine. Light is roughly 22" from Zoas.

Also had some algae growth from the light. Had to turn down my settings by 15% and cut the hours by 1 to help. Took about a week and slowly the algae went away with the help of the CUC as well.

The day I got the light I introduced 2 new frags of 6 heads of Fire & Ice & Fruity Loops Zoas. Bother frags placed on the bottom of the tank, within 2 weeks The heads on both frags had nearly doubled 11 on the Fire & Ice, 10 with a tiny one just sprouting on the Fruity Loops. I don't see any issue with growth my povona seems to be doing just fine..... only problem is a week later I got hit by what I think is a cyano outbreak so I none of my corals are too happy right now.

My corals are absolutley loving the AI prime on my 15 gallon. Those par numbers tested seem a little bit low coming from this unit, we should have more people test with a par meter before blaming AI right away.

Thank you for contacting EcoTech Marine. I'm not sure where you saw that the Prime had a PAR number of 500? Can you please provide me with a link showing that information? The PAR level on the Prime is 260 and has always been. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thanks again,
Alex

Wow, now they are pretending that they didn't advertise the hell out of these with those PAR numbers? Weak!

Link to comment

I seriously have no doubt this light can grow some coral. But why did they advertise it at 500 peak PAR and then cut it nearly in half? That is the only thing that annoys me.

Exactly that's the big issue i think, and now to deny it, can't wait to see their next response

And few people have the time or funds to pursue a lawsuit against them.

Ya but a large collective does. If someone gets grumpy enough to start it I'd jump in. Companies shouldn't be allowed to falsely advertise and then get away with it.

I agree that it might take alot of effort on our parts to make any of this worth our time. Still would like to hear what they say about them changing their own numbers. I'd like to know where they got 500 PAR from.

I personally couldn't care less on the numbers, there is no scientific evidence that a specific Par rating is needed for specific corals and I have seen many people over the years using PAR meters and getting measurements around 200 where they were encrusting SPS, I have also read posts where individuals over 350 PAR were getting pale looking corals and others that were doing just fine. I have only seen decent growth with this light, then again I assumed it was for a nano under 18X18 when I bought it and that's exactly what I put it over.

For $200 the light and the features and its capability from what I have personally seen is the about the best price your going to get.

I agree. I don't think people are worried about the numbers per say but more worried about AI advertising it at 500 peak output and then slashing it to 260 peak output. You don't feel slightly duped by that?

At this point no, the reasoning I bought the prime was price and it looked similar to my AI Nano, in which when I finally figured out after 3 years how to set it correctly it turned all my frags into colonies over the next year. When I bought the prime I was pissed I didn't read close enough to realize they left out the Royal Blue this time but oh well for the price. I then set it up and wanted to mimic my Nano settings as close as possible, over the last month+ its been sitting on the tank I have seen growth and good results. I just found out they slashed the # A couple days ago so at this point after seeing what it's capable of I'm not worried.

Also I have learned in life its just natural for humans to make mistakes, It happens. People like to look at large corporations as machines when in reality its a conglomerate of many individuals. if you were reading only into numbers when buying this fixture than sure that may be a huge letdown but then you take it back to the store and say you want your money back, they say no you print the screens from the archive and from the site today and file a charge back on your credit card. You will be refunded the money and if you care about Karma or doing the right thing drop the fixture back off where you got it.

The Osram Square Deep Blue LEDs are royal blue.

Personally I would have set it up with three of the Osram Square and two of the Cree XP-E2 cool blue but AI thought it was a good idea to do it the other way around for some reason.

They responded. Still sucks but I guess i'll put my pitchfork away now.

Alex Young, May 12, 14:17:

I apologize for my earlier statements, as we have revised the PAR rating graphic online. The output of the Prime has not changed, that said there was a mistake with the available information. Previously we had stated the PAR rating of 500µMol at a depth of 12 inches, which is incorrect. Those measurements were taken at 6 inches, and you will achieve a max PAR 500µMol assuming you are measuring 6 inches below the Prime. With that in mind, the correct maximum PAR output is as stated, 260µMol at a depth of 12 inches. Again, we truly apologize for this misunderstanding.

That's a factually incorrect response. Light follows the inverse square law.

At double distance one quarter intensity at half distance four times the intensity.

PAR at six inches would be 1040 if PAR at twelve inches is 260.

Here's what support had to say today:

I don't really have an interest in returning the product since you can't get much else that is comparable up in Canada for $280 shipped with mount... Glad they are willing to accept returns though!
