On the front page, you should make each a link to each contestants build thread so it makes it easy to check them out.

Yes, Cintax. I will link everyone's tank thread to their name. I'll start working on it this evening.

Also, please welcome our newest contestant, xxredxpandaxx.

So, I was going to order one from big als, but unfortunatly I cant seem to find any marine substrate on their website? All i see is carib-sea freshwater substrates and I dont want to have to order the deco from big als, and then have to get sand from another vendor.... Am i missing something, or are they not really on the marine side of things?

Instead of being condescending and a Debbie downer all the time, I decided to be constructive. I have Cyber(NR) stalked each of the participants to find out if they have started a thread or not.

If everyone could post a link to their tank thread in this thread, it will be way easier for Streetsong to finish the links on the participant list.

You could try emailing them. I just emailed them about an hour ago to thank them for the quick shipping and for supporting NR, and they replied in less than 5 minutes. Marine Depot is also a sponsor of NR and they have nearly everything that someone would need to start a tank(including the toms 2 gallon deco tank). They are my usual go to people for reef stuff but I decided to try out Big Al's this time.

edit - took too long to reply.

Maybe try Amazon

Can't you get sand from a local LFS? You don't need very much and I would think the cost of shipping XX lbs would be expensive. IMHO

Neat idea, why does mine show an error?

I live on an island in alaska......no such thing as lfs here. yes I could rob sand from one of my other tanks, but I would have wanted to start "fresh" with this one

well ive tried.....live chat with marine depot...they refuse to ship even the smallest acrylic tank to alaska....because its fragile. Pretty ridiculous IMO. I wish the tank was available at more major retailers....dr foster smith.....premium aquatics etc.

Have an email in with big als to see if they carry any marine substrate...

well im gonna bow out.....big als isnt carrying marine sand because its an extra heavy item.....yet they have 20# bags of freshwater substrate....WTF is up with this assanine online vendors?

How about barebottom? or boil some substrate all gnar gnar styley. Also, I used maybe 2 handfulls for my sand. Dont let sand hold you back from this epic contest.

+1 for BB

So, when will the other 11 of y'all put up your tank threads? ;)

Well I don't have a tank yet so we will see....

hmm, didnt think of barebottom, maybe that would help with the inevitable scratching of the cheap acrylic too.... I couldnt imagine trying to boil some of my already established substrate....just running the prefilters for my MP pumps under warm water is killer.

If you want I have a couple pounds of dry sand and some dry rock I could send your way. And I'm not sure but I don't think eBay has shipping restrictions and ive seen the 2 gal deco there too.

Thanks John, I'm currently waiting for a response again from big als....i created an account and tried to order just the tank...but it wont let me select my shipping address(alaska),so they probably have some no alaska shipping policy as well.

ebay doesent have any shipping restrictions, but the actual sellers do. Some ship to alaska, but most wont even consider it(i have no idea why...were just like anywhere else!)

im pretty sure sears would ship up here too, but sheesh $100.00 for the same tank!

Well even if they don't id be willing to order the tank from ebay and ship it to you from my house. Just repay my costs on the tank and I'll throw in the sand and rock for free. I know what its like to be stuck somewhere where no one ships. It ####in blows! Lol

Why are all the companies hating on Alaska? I want to move there =] and does anyone know about the stipulation on sumps, if we can have one and how big can it be?

Wow, I'm starting to see what the competition is going to be like and I see some great ideas posting here. Me thinks I'm going to have to step up my game plan a bit in order to stand any chance in this contest. There maybe some exciting news posted soon on My Bob's Big Boy tank. A lil' hint, a drill, plastic needlpoint canvas and a whole lotta luck!!!!!!
