I did an 8-gallon water change. Nitrates (right after change) were down to about 50ppm. So, still will need some more water changes but it's coming down slowly (and based on my calculations, they're right where they should be after removing 8-gallons of water). So, maybe next time (in a few days) I'll do a larger one (12-13 gallons) to get them lower still. Corals still look good and I'm going to get on top of this no picture thing very soon!

Yeah, I know. I'm going to test tomorrow too. It would be GREAT if they're even lower but I doubt that. :) So, pics will be coming MAYBE tomorrow.

If the tank doesn't have a lot of coral (or just has some hardy ones), just do a 100% change and be done with it instead of pussyfooting around with little changes. :P

Thanks! I think so too! Still need to lower those nitrates but the corals are doing well. Oh and I found an Asterina starfish today.

What's going on here?

Well, that was a freshly fragged xenia that I had JUST gotten from a local reef club member. My other xenia (as you probably see from the picture) looks good (both frags of it). He warned me that it didn't look good and all so I put it in the tank to see how it did. It's not in there any more because it didn't look good after a day and so I moved it to my quarantine tank that's cycled just to give it a chance. It's still there but doesn't look good so I'm not sure if it's going to make it or not.

So, I've come to the point where I need to replace the bulbs in my T5HO fixture (4). So, seeing that they will be somewhat expensive (though I'd be replacing one at a time probably), I've been LOOKING into an LED fixture. However, I'm not going to spend a TON of money on LEDs so it'll have to be less expensive if I go that way. I can say that my tank won't be SPS dominate BUT I can't rule out the possibility of a couple of SPS. So, here are a few I've been looking at. Let me know what would work.

So, are any of these any good? Which one(s)?

No, no, no, no, and no.

Buy something quality the first time and you'll avoid having to spend much more in the long run. At the very least, purchase two QUALITY PAR38 bulbs (such as Coral Compulsion's new ones coming soon, or LEDtric), or a Reefbreeders Value fixture.
