What are your plans for that leather? Will it end up in your 60? I only ask bc I have three larger leathers in my 10 gallon and shading is starting to become a real concern. It really limits how heavily I can put coral on the live rock below.

Your tank is beautiful! 🥰

Yeah, I guess eventually I'll have to move it out to my 60G. Its growth seems to be quite slow in this tank - probably due to limitations in space & available nutrients.

There is a patch of darkness under it - I had to trim off one of the digi sticks and glue it somewhere else because it was receding due to the lack of light. Hope this helps. 👍

When you love something so much, that you beat/gouge it to death. 😭

The coral was perfectly fine this morning. Come evening, when I'm about to dose the tank and feed the fish, imagine my horror to see strips of flesh peeling off its skeleton.

Initially I thought my largest yuma had overextended its reach and went to war with the brain. But the skeletal area was facing forward, and not on the side facing the yuma.

I pulled out a LR from the fuge of my 60G to create a barricade against the yuma and brain though - just in case.

Then I backed away and when I was far enough to the point Pickle couldn't see me, I caught rubbing herself aggressively against the coral, pushing it all over, mouthing it/the new rock - I mean, holy hell.

*Someone was clearly having a bad day, and the brain is now in extremely rough shape.

Although this coral has been incredibly resilient in the past, it was quite slimy and still sloughing off flesh (stress response...?).

The lights are off for the day and Pickle has calmed down a little, but the brain cannot recover with her constantly rubbing herself against it in a rough way.

I think I'll add a bit of sand in a breeder box tomorrow and put the brain it - to keep it separated from Pickle to give it a chance to heal. It may/may not recover, but I truly hope it bounces back.

This tank started off as a home to nurse sick and injured corals, so I guess we'll be temporarily moving back in that direction. My next WC is only due on Sat, but I'll try to move it up Friday.

If the coral starts sliming excessively, I'll remove it from the nano completely and try to nurse it in a separate QT tank downstairs.

Have some good news. The brain is recovery very quickly from its injury. One side still remains a bit shrunken, but new flesh has begun to grow and the skeletal area is no longer visible: 🥰👍

I WCed the tank today. Some corals are still a bit retracted:

Planning on fragging this and giving the frag(s) to my LFS. 👍

Merlettis - too many heads to keep track now & almost impossible to frag without damaging the entire colony:

Bonus pic - here's a discus juvi I purchased recently (one of two) that has begun to color up very well in ~2+ weeks after being fed various marine food (dried & frozen) as a plus to the daily staple of discus tetrabits:

20220619_113614.thumb.jpg.88d6089c41ce4f418fe275a00eff1825.jpg

It originally looked like this on 2nd of June (first day) and was half the size of what it is today:

I believe the increase in growth and color was due to the higher % of protein and vitamins found in food derived from marine sources ---> just a loose theory. 🤷‍♀️

I've been keeping in touch with the breeder and she was quite surprised and excited to with the pair's progress. 👍

Hi everyone. I have a lot of pics today, but once again, I'm running out of storage space on NR. So I'll be posting 'sneak peeks' of 1 to 2 pics instead, then stick my Insta link in this thread so that you can view the full collection on there. Truly sorry! 😕

I found a pair of red flatworms on 2 shrooms today. Just quickly siphoned them out using a pipette. I think they must have hitchiked on the rock I pulled out of the fuge of my 60G and wedged between the rainbow brain and yuma pile. My fuge is full of all sorts of critters, so I'm not surprised. 😅
