  1. Hi everyone, I've started a new build, and have decided to document it in this journal so that you might follow along (if you're interested). Background: I used to have a wonderful tiny mixed reef picotank for the last few months which brought me much joy. Unfortunately, 2.6G of volume wasn't enough to grow out all my corals, and I did add more than 60+ frags in that little tank. Eventually, I decided upgrading was the best solution. I needed a tank that wasn't too large that it would become a burden doing WCs, but not too small that it didn't have enough space to accommodate all the corals either. I settled on a 10G+ tank - it was roomy enough to meet my requirements, and most importantly, be simple enough to WC every week. I used the Tank Transfer Method (TTM) to upgrade, and used established cured LR (~5-years-old) from older systems as a biofilter. Only the LS was new, but I seeded it with a small cup of LS from my picoreef. The new nano is now located in my bedroom, and the temp. dips down to as low as 25'C (night) and as high as 30'C (very hot afternoons). The swing seems wild, but my pico operated under the same temp. range (more or less), and so far the animals didn't have any issues with the temp. It'll open up possibilities for additional fish and corals that I couldn't add to a smaller tank. This will be my tank of firsts. First sump, first ato, first large tank, first skimmer, first tank move, first time plumbing, etc. It's going to be a journey and I have a lot of new exciting stuff to learn along the way. I will document my journey so that hopefully others may learn from the countless mistakes that I'm about to make. Mochi's Sushi Tank 750XXL

Updated 1-29-2020. So much has happened. Marriage, new jobs, etc. Reef wise, the tank made a sudden and unexpected upgrade to the Reefer 750XXL about half a year ago. Instead of making a new thread, I'll continue to post in this one. So in light of all that, here's an updated FTS and Mochi picture. FTS Current FTS as of 12.2020 Doggo

    MrGlass's 30 Gallon Tall Nano

So I set up a new tank. After 3 years in the hobby I think I've made all the possible mistakes and I'm finally trying to do things right by automating as much of the upkeep as possible and getting my hands out of the tank. Life gets hectic, jobs get demanding, kids need raising, I guess everybody knows the spiel. My last tank, which I loved, was a Fluval Flex 8 Gallon AIO. The tank almost got killed by some scented sticks that triggered a huge bacterial bloom. I lost in a night 5 sexy shrimp, the friendlies cleaner shrimp I ever saw and a few coral. Almost got my 2 clowns as well, they've been with me from the start survived my noob mistakes: a tank crash, a 1000 mile move, heater malfunction and a cooler malfunction. No worse feeling then seeing them gasping on the bottom of the tank. Fortunately I moved them fast in to a temporary tank pumped a lot of O2 in an got them slowly back into shape. Anyway, enough back-story, let's get to the new set-up! Tank was set up on the 08 Nov 2020 assembled and aquascaped in a day, took longer to make the RODI then to set up the tank, it helped having everything already bought and waiting and I got real lucky with the rock, the aquascape almost built itself, rock fit like Legos, I used barely any cement. Tank: 30 Gallon/120 Liter Jewel Lido Filtration: Stock in-tank filter converted to refugium with Tunze eco chic refugium light 500grams of Seachem Matrix and a bit of Chaetomorpha Stock Return pump 160 g / h 600 l / h Heating/Cooling: Inkbird Controler with Stock 100w Juwel Heater & 2 usb fans Flow: Jebao sw 4 Lights: Aquamedic cube 50 & 2 Juwel Led Blue 438 8 hours lighting schedule for the juwel 6 for the aquamedic. ATO: Tunze Nano Osmolator oldest piece of kit that pump is damn near indestructible Skimmer: Tunze Nano 9004 UV: No name uv light rated to up to 30 gallons fits perfectly under the pump in the stock filter Dosing: Grotech NG1 single line dosser, will be dosing All for Reef after the tank stabilizes and I can calculate the consumption Automation: Techkin smart plugs, I can control lights and pumps from my phone Feeder: Juwel Autofeeder feeding pelets once a day on the lowest setting Monitoring: My old Mate 20 Pro the got it's screen shattered, turned into a makeshift streaming device: The Live Stream Stocking: The toughest two clown fish this side of the great barrier reef. Pic & Poc Coral: Zoanthids, GSP, Duncan, Goni, Various Mushrooms (that I though were dead but now are coming back), Green toadstool, Finger leather (that might not make it) Green Kenya Tree, Red montipora digitata (very sad at the moment) Chalice Coral, CandyCane, Elegance Coral, Gorgonians and Pulsing Xenia which got hit among the worse but still hanging in there. Clean up crew: A Hermit Crab that I had no idea was still alive, I actually dropped his shell on when I was moving the coral, he sat on the floor next to the aquarium for about 2 hours I'm not sure how he's still alive. A bunch of Brittle Starfish babies and a Trochus snails I guess that's it, I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I'll try to update this post as often as life allows it. If anybody wants any extra details I'm happy to answer.
  6. Hi everyone, I've decided to start a journal for my third tank - a tiny 2.6G picoreef with some vicious monsters from the deep! Background: This tank was originally set up to meet the O.S.P.R.C. organized last year by NR. However, I kept battling a persistent flatworm issue which resulted in a loss of livestock and motivation in general. It served as a betta tank for a short while, but now that I've moved my betta into a better/larger tank, I've decided to re-start this tiny aquarium as a picoreef. Most of the corals added to this tank was done via an emergency TTM, because I ran into some really nasty temp. issues with my nanoreef in the library (the water spiked up to 33'C ) and this was my last-ditch effort to save whatever I could. The pico is located in my bedroom, which is currently the coolest spot in the house, and the average temp. is between 26'C (night) and 29'C (very hot days). The TTM went over quite smoothly so far, but I didn't have any extra sand when the tank was re-set, so I went barebottom for the time being. 125g mixed reef

I think its about time I make a journal of my tank and everything going on within it rather than making separate posts about it. This is my 125g mixed reef tank,( http://imgur.com/gallery/m7jhmoc ) originally made to be a FoWLR Pred tank but after a few attempts at preds and them dying it became a Mixed Reef. Now what makes this a mixed Reef you ask? Well its all about finding fish that not only are reef safe, but have a toxic/predatory side within them ( i.e angles, butterflys, rabbitfish, tangs etc ). I had started this tank around 6 months ago and have had no luck with keeping preds alive, but have had no issue keeping butterflys and angels alive with my first ever herbivore fish being a foxface rabbitfish. My current stocking in the tank is 1x raccoon butterfly 1x coral beauty angel 1x foxface rabbitfish 1x cleaner shrimp 6x peppermint shrimp 1x chocolate starfish Now in regards to my tank issues, the past month I've been dealing with ich within the tank, and now all my fish are in a 14g nuvo QT tank for the next 30 days so the tank just has shrimp in it. I do feel as my tank doesn't like me with how many fish I've lost over these 4 months of the tank being able to hold fish. I've lost currently - 2 domino damsels, 3 lionfish( 1 dwarf, 2 voliton ), 1 Snowflake eel, 1 blue sided wrasse, and 2 hippo tangs ( tangs being 2 inches long ). I had my first Fallow period about 2 months ago due to the losses ( I found out that I had a flesh eating bacteria that affected my lionfish causing their slime coats to fall off and black round sockets around their eyes. ) After that is when I added the shrimps, starfish, angels and butterflys. Yet a few days ago I lost my emperor angel I had for about 70 days to ich, in which now the other fish are QTd to prevent them from dying on me. Stay tuned for more updates weekly
  8. Thanks for taking a look at my tank journal. I've been reefing for about 10 years now; not a novice but far from knowing everything. I've always loved the simplicity of all in one tanks and my very first tank was a 29 gallon Biocube. I've had a few tanks between this Innovative Marine SR60 and my first Biocube but the contents of this tank came from my last 29 gallon Biocube I had set up for about 3 years. I added some cured liverock and moved the contents of that tank to this one in November of 2018. My goal is to incorporate all types of coral into a diverse, mixed reef and place a large emphasis on fish that are both beautiful but also serve a purpose in a peaceful community tank. My three daughters have some input as to what goes in the tank and while I don't always agree with their selections, I have been pleasantly surprised on more than one occasion (Valentini Puffer...Yasha Goby, just to name a couple). This is a family tank and something that we enjoy discussing, admiring and feeding every night before bed time.
