I have a three head Acan frag it is my first and I was wondering how long it would take to grow into a nice sized one like 10 heads in total?

Hey guys, I have a 2 headed acan that's been in the bottom of my tank for a few months now, it has shown no real signs of reproduction, and little growth, despite my feedings of mysis and a coral blend. He doesn't seem to like much more flow than he has at the bottom of my tank, but would more light be the key to his growth, or is this a normal seeming speed of growth?

I would say more light couldn't hurt, just keep testing spots around the tank to find what works...

I definitely would not stop feeding

ReefMasters, i would say if you have good conditions about 6 months

Good luck guys! Others members, feel free to chip in and provide some input for these Q's :D

I have had a three headed frag for 3 weeks that has two or three new heads growing, I feed it 3 times a week, it is a in a 20 gallon long with a 72 watt dimmable DIY led light fixture, set 3 inches off the tank set at full blast and focused on it.

Those are some amazing Acans guys. Acans were my fav when I got out of the hobby. Luckily I gave all of my colonies to a friend with the promise that I get the next available frag when I get back into it. Countin down the days until I get a tank up and cycled. You could definately refer to this thread as "Reef Porn"

Speaking of lighting, I'm often baffled at how goofy Acan's are in regards to being fussy about light.

I have an orange and white lord that inflates to the size of a large orange, and even though it's stretching towards my lights if I move it up so much an inch it get's ticked and withdraws until I move it back down. I also have a teal and orange just a bit smaller that's right up under my LED's, and it's the only place in the tank it likes. I have a blue and green that want's to be in between.

Recently had a bad bag of salt cause my alk to screaming high, and of all the corals in my tank my Acan's didn't care less. Great coral....wish they were more common.

Hi Acan Club.

My name is Manolo and I just discovered your great club. I would love to join, unfortunately, I have to introduce myself with what I think is an Acan health issue.

In the last week I have observed some white spots on two of my Acans. They look like a crumble made of a white string, I have been dipping them in some of my pico tank's water with Seachem's coral disinfectant. I am attaching a picture of it when it was being dipped.

Have any of you seen this before? Is it something I need to be really worried about? What would be the best way to get rid of it?

Thanks so much for your help and I hope I can be part of the club whenever I cure this beautiful Acan.

They're still a little ticked, just received them yesterday. I have some mounting to do, but I'm trying to gauge what will be happy where before I do. I also know a local who's having a blowout of some really high end acans as well, might pick up a piece tomorrow.

Oh, don't mind the cerith. I'm not sure if the plan is to get eaten, but that's a decision I can live with either way haha.
