TheUnfocusedOne
well this seems like the place to go for info on a mantis, i msure some of these questions have been answered but theres 90+ pages here, n im really lazy so, my questions are what size tank is a minimum for any kinda of mantis what kinds of things can you feed em and is there anything else i should know about them? im thinkin about maybe getting one for my dorm this year or next Quote Link to comment
travisurfer
for any mantis a 30-40g tank would due. most of the mantids you'll find(outsided of a peacock) would be fine in a 10g though. white shrimp soaked in any vitamin additive along with the occassionaly live food will do they're relatively easy to care for although there will be an occasional bad molt ime. TheUnfocusedOne
so heres a question what do you use as a cuc? i mean, it eats basically anything u could use for one i might get like a 10g long n get something small im debating Quote Link to comment
Argent
crap - they sold my mantis yesterday afternoon Quote Link to comment
TheUnfocusedOne
re-asking my question about a mantis cuc Quote Link to comment
Argent
any CUC you put in a basher mantis tank will be prone to being eaten Quote Link to comment
travisurfer
the CUC is live food for a smasher mantis. you kill two birds with one stone. its just that the cuc is short-lived. Quote Link to comment
TheUnfocusedOne
so u can still have a cuc? itll just periodically eat it interesting Quote Link to comment
travisurfer
yes, the CUC slowly(or quickly in some cases) gets picked off so you will have to periodically replace it Quote Link to comment
Argent
well after having talked to the guys at the LFS (who had no clue what kind of mantis they had - they just had one) it turns out they had a 4"+ Peacock - so too big for my 10G anyway..... Quote Link to comment
TheUnfocusedOne
so is there any kind of protical on mating of 2 mantises? is that possible or will the just eat each other Quote Link to comment

travisurfer
so is there any kind of protical on mating of 2 mantises?is that possible or will the just eat each other its not worth it. most cases will yield an all out war. even with some "successful" breeding pairs, one is normally eaten during a molt. also, they are nearly impossible to rear. http://www.stomatopod.com/proddetail.php?prod=O.S.26 THIS ONE! nice Quote Link to comment
