Wait, the eel. DERP. I was still on the blenny. Lol

Eels have one of the coolest jaw structures ever, the whole dual-jaw thing is just badass. Even though yours is small, a bite can get nasty, they apparently lead to a lot of infections. Definitely don't want that!

xzibit would be super proud. Yo dawg, I heard you like jaws.

Sorry about the hand, that sucks! I broke a few bones in my hand in a fall a couple years ago, same hand but I am left handed so it was rough the first couple days figuring out how to do things. I got to make my hubby do the dishes and all the water change lifting for a little while anyways. Worst part was how long it took for my hand to feel normal strength again.

Again and again so proud of your crazy beautiful reef. Congrats!!

I should quit slackin and set up my own tank because Chris and countless others miss my pictures and enjoying my reef. And truthfully I miss having a reef of my own as well! It won't be long now til I have a super sexy piece of living art again :D

Fixed that for ya bro ;)

Super cool illustrations. I didn't know about the double jaw. Thanks for sharing! Infections are definitely something to consider. My eel is small enough that he doesn't do much physical damage, but his teeth leave little puncture wounds, which I'm sure would get infected easily.

Yeah I'm really glad I didn't break my dominant hand. Unfortunately, I live by myself and my boyfriend is 400 miles away, so I don't have someone to make do my water changes for me. Yeah I'm really not looking forward to how weak the hand will be once I get the splint off in a couple weeks.

Congrats!!! :)

Thank you! :)

Ha! I texted this to Eddie. Had to show him he's missed :D

I want to hang out on NR, but man typing one handed is so exhausting! So slow! I'm lurking and liking, but just not writing too much.

Man Eddie is still 400 miles away? That sucks, has he not fully moved still?? Tell him to quit slackin!

I'm sure he knows he is missed by many but thank you for reminding him. Now hopefully he will get some time to get around here more and a new tank of his own going so we can all drool over both of your tanks :)

Its ok rest the hand better to take it easy for a little while and let it heal then try to force things to much right now. Get it healed up and it will come around again.

I could not watch the whole video of the diver and the moray! :o And Jesus Christ that video of the honeycomb eating the yellow spotted moray... I wonder how long the yellow spotted was still trying to bite once it was fully swallowed. Reminds me of the python in the Everglades that was found dead after eating a gator cause the gator managed to claw its way through from the inside:

He's fully moved, but the move was to Orange County. I'm still up in Berkeley, so its about a 6.5 hour drive or a quick flight. Definitely much better than it was! I'm appreciating being able to drive down there. I went for Thanksgiving and took Lily (my cat) with me, which was nice.

I think he's holding off on a new tank until he's in a more permanent place. He's in an apartment now, but I'm sure he'll move again and moving a tank is the worst!

I'm trying to stay off my computer and just get on once a day to do some emailing and such. That way I don't use my hand too much. The doctor saw it Friday and yelled at me for overdoing it. I was trying to do all my normal stuff and I had it all swollen up and irritated. Gotta just take it easy, which is hard for me to do for long.

Woah! Brutal is the right word! Poor littler eel. That was insane. Can't believe it was able to eat it alive like that.

Yeah I'd heard about the python and the gator, but hadn't seen a photo. That is just crazy. Talk about these animals having eyes bigger than their stomachs. You'd think there would be something easier and safer they could eat!

I was going a bit stir crazy today after spending all yesterday taking it easy, so I went to a big outdoor antique market with a couple friends. I got a couple nice things. First off, I was really excited to find one of the vintage ceramic christmas trees from the 60's. My parents had one that got handed down to them from their parents, and I remember playing with the little plastic ornaments on it when I was little. I've been wanting to find one because I don't have space for a big tree, and Lily just knocks over and tears up little trees. The ceramic one is too heavy for her to knock over, and isn't interesting to chew on or play with. Its nice to finally have a Christmas tree :)

I also got a fun antique candle holder for $5.

And I got a Christmas present for my mom. A really pretty set of salt and pepper shakers. This style was made from 1936-1965.

Well that sucks, but atleast he is alot closer then before and your able to drive there reasonably atleast :) Is Lily a good traveler or do you have to put her in a crate (I've never had a cat so not sure how that works lol)

Yeah I don't blame him there! I moved my old 180 3 or 4 times, moving a tank sucks, but moving a big tank reaaaaly sucks. I know when the time is right tho he will get back in and have a gorgeous tank again as well. :)

Thats no good Felicia you need to rest it so you heal properly, swelling isn't good

Yeah he's at least in the same state now, so I don't mind too much. We both have obligations right now that aren't in the same place, but that's ok because we're making it work. :) Lily actually travels really well. She usually flies every year with my at Christmas time to go see my family. She feels safe in her bag and just naps in there. This was actually the first big car trip she'd been on, but she handled it just fine. Again, she mostly just napped in her bag on my passenger seat. I didn't want to let her loose and have her get up under my feet while I was trying to drive.

Yeah, I do not look forward to ever moving a tank. Just moving the tank across my apartment to do the upgrade was a whole day (or more) of work. I definitely thinks he wants to be somewhere more permanently before he sets something up.

Yeah, I want my hand to heal properly, so I'm taking it much more easy. I was trying to do too much with it. I'm being more careful until I see the orthopedic hand specialist on Wednesday for my follow-up appointment. I'm also icing it a bunch to keep the swelling down.

We used to have one of those too!!!! And I loved playing with/moving around all the lights as well. Sadly it never survived the childhoods of four boys. Nice score!

Lots of nostalgic memories with these :) Glad you had one too! I talked to my mom and she has our original one in storage, but its missing almost all of the little plastic bulbs after me and my sister played with them when we were little. I looked and found out I can buy her replacements on ebay :)

A few years ago my mom and I wanted to take a drive form Chicago to North Carolina. This left no one at home to take care of my cat and I know he doesn't do well with boarding. We decided to take him with!! He did really well, though we had a van and two people. He sat on the back seat napping the whole time and didn't bother whoever was driving at all. When we stopped for bathroom breaks someone always stayed in the car with him. We put his litter box in the very back and he was able to go when we stopped. Just an idea for next time or if you ever take longer trips!

Wow killer thread, started reading it and released there are 43 pages lol, nice! Felicia, sorry if i'm already asking something you have answered already. I used to have maxspect mazzara's P's and ran all blues at 100 percent while whites were in the 50's. May i ask your settings and or if you have done any par measurements? Looks like your fixture is about 12-14" above your tank? Thanks again and I'm sorry if you have already answered this questions.

Thanks! No worries! I don't expect anyone to dig through the whole long thread for information. The light is right at 12" above the tank. My lighting program is:

Midnight to 1:30 pm - A: 0% and B: 0%

3:00 pm - A: 40% and B: 60%

4:00 pm to 10:00 pm - A: 90% and B: 100%

11:00 pm - A: 0% and B: 60%

12 am - A: 0% and B: 0%

A is the white channel and B is the blue channel.

Wonderful and simple to it seems. I miss may maxspect fixtures and my order these. I'm assuming you are running the stock lens?

Yep, its a pretty simple fixture to set up. No crazy programming or anything, which I like. I actually switched out the lenses for the wide angle ones. It gives much better color blending and eliminated the shadowing I was getting on the ends of the tank.

I finally mustered the energy to tackle my long overdue water change and maintenance one handed. It went pretty smoothly. Just took way longer than normal and I'm weirdly wiped out now. In bed now sipping hot tea and icing my hand because it swelled a bit from all the activity. I feel very productive though :)

Fun photo from the water change.

It's probably good to feel 'productive'and doing a normal activity again. Reassures you that you are recovering!
