metrokat
I'm sorry for not following up with you. Did you treat the turf algae with peroxide? I got some Mexican turbo snails and let me tell you how fantastic they were! They ate all the enteromporpha and invasive red dictyota that have plagued me for over a year. I never let the algae take over as I would manually remove it every week but it was the bane of my existence till I got these snails. They may not go after the algae you want gone at first but as they mow down the edible stuff in your tank, they will get hungry and go for their secondary choices. Link to comment
jball1125
Hey Kat, to be honest I haven't had much time on my hands lately, between work and summer term chem classes my schedule had been crazy. Once I'm done with this class ill give the peroxide treatment a try. As for mexican turbos, ill be picking some up today. One question how much peroxide should I use per treatment? Link to comment

jball1125
So Im convinced. I have a snail predator. Every time I add a larger snail to the tank it ends up dying very soon. Im talking empty shell, something is eating them. Yesterday I added 2x really large mexican turbos. Today one of them is gone. Link to comment
jball1125
Holy crap so I saw the predator. It was like something out of a movie. Imagine an extremely flat slug that moves like a magic carpet on the sand bed. The lights are still off and I was shining my light behind the rocks. I saw the turbo upside down with what looked like something covering it. Then I noticed that something started moving. It moved into the rocks and disapeared. The turbo is still upside down and seems to have a hole in its interior flap. WTF?!?! Link to comment
Nano sapiens
Predatory Flatworm. Interesting creatures, except when they kill our snails! Link to comment
jball1125
Yup definitely interesting, the way it moves is very cool. I wonder if I can catch him, he was very shy towards light and hid as soon as It was shining on him. Link to comment
jball1125
So the mexican turbos have really been munching on the turf algae, thanks sapien! Unfortunately the predatory flatworm gets busy at night and he is killing them faster than I can replace them. Grrrrr! Link to comment
jball1125
Quick IPAD pic. Notice the turf has gone down . Need to get more turbos! :/ http://s918.photobucket.com/user/jball1125/media/Fish/8be0a8bb462fbf3cf35b5e23d58ab39d_zpsedec897f.jpg.html'> Link to comment

FishDooD65
Much better! have you managed to catch the worm? you can always make a trap out of a tube of some sort and put a snail in it to entice the worm to get it, then just remove it when the sucker goes and hunts for it. Link to comment
jball1125
The guy is elusive, I was confused for a while as to what was happening to all my snails. Only reason I saw him was because I was looking around with a flashlight. Soon as light hit him he was gone. Then he took off about a week because the turbo he ate was huge and finally got to the biggest one. I suspect the last one he ate was too big because it smelled like death. Link to comment

jball1125
Wow, I never heard of such a thing. I know. If I catch it im thinking of keeping it in a separate container. Or maybe someone needs a snail killer., Link to comment
justin carnecchia
Damn... I wonder if I have something similar happening to my snails. Snail mortality seems to be very high in my tank and I haven't been able to figure out why. Link to comment
jball1125
If the snails just appear empty one day, that's probably the issue. Link to comment
jball1125
Made a trap today to try and catch the snail hunter. If it works Ill post pics.... Link to comment
Gramophone
How's the algae situation? Link to comment
jball1125
The mexican turbos I got were gobbling it all up. Unfortunately I have a snail assassin in my tank so they only last about a week in there. At like $5 a piece I need to catch the assassin before adding more mexican turbos. If its not one thing its the other it seems. Link to comment
Nano sapiens
If its not one thing its the other it seems. That about sums it up. But if you keep working at it long enough the troubles tend to decrease. Link to comment

GHill762
Anyone like snakes? Was taking some pics of our animals this week so Ill share some. #1 is gorgeous.. always caught and played with snakes as a kid (seriously we'd catch roughly 15-20 snakes, and 20+ turtles in a day), always liked snakes, never had one as a pet. playing video games with a buddy one night (there may have been alcohol and/or other substances involved) and his python was on the couch with us, dropped a deuce on the couch that looked like some kind of mega bird turd..
