ZephNYC
I went to look at the tank and give them some more food and I saw two of the ponies curled around each other touching bellies. As strange as this sounds, I was rooting them on and telling them to make me some babies. If they could blush, I bet they would have. Hang porno near their tank, that helps. Link to comment
garrettparson
You should add some dwarf pipe fish to the tank aswell. Link to comment
Whys
Hey Alto! I hope you and the ponies had a good 4th. I don't know about you, but I opted for rum on the beach. Yoshii, I'm speechless. Link to comment

I don't think the neighbors would approve of that You should add some dwarf pipe fish to the tank aswell. I don't believe there are any pipefish species small enough to be comfortably housed in a 3 gallon aquarium. Even if there was, they would eat the baby seahorses. It would be cool if I could though Hey Alto! I hope you and the ponies had a good 4th. I don't know about you, but I opted for rum on the beach. Yoshii, I'm speechless. Well I'm 19 so rum is out for me (at least as far as the authorities are concerned). I actually did absolutely nothing. My city outlaws all fireworks so even a sparkler will get you a $500 fine Link to comment

Felicia
Hey! How are the seahorses doing? Any new babies yet? I found out I'm going to be out of town 8 days in August and I don't have anyone I trust to deal with hatching brine and feeding the live food for that long so I'm going to hold off on ordering the seahorses until late August. It's hard to wait but it's better than having brand new seahorses die when I go out of town. Link to comment

It's hard to wait but it's better than having brand new seahorses die when I go out of town. They're doing great! The two original babies are three times the size they were upon arrival. One is yellow and the other is green The pregnant male is still pregnant and getting bigger everyday. I keep them at relatively low temps so the babies develop fairly slow, but he should give birth any day now. That sucks you have to wait, but it's a good decision. I couldn't imagine the stress of leaving them for that long. Link to comment

My city outlaws all fireworks so even a sparkler will get you a $500 fine Rum wasn't allowed on the beach either. There's a big lake near here with imported beach sand. It's a resort town, so they always have a great fireworks display and family activities. The wife and child played while I enjoyed my... coke. Not the worst way to spend the day. Hope you enjoyed yours all the same. The pregnant male is still pregnant and getting bigger everyday. Man, the daily brine is a serious obstacle. It's not the doing it, but the needing to be there every single day. In my case, twice a day. Surely there's a better way? Just something I can't help but to think about, as my kreisel should be ready again soon. I saw some larvae floating around the breeder the other day and I can see one very preggers female. So all signs are a go. Also, show me the green one! Link to comment
patback
I haven't read up on this in a while an feel so out of the loop. Everything looks amazing! Can't wait to see the babies, It would be cool to actually see it in action. Now what exactly are you going to do with the babies when your tank gets too full, and what is the "ethical" protocol on them? As in could the babies actually reproduce to keep this tank going in the long run without purchasing more? Will there be little redneck/in bread seahorses? Tulip girl, 800 a month for everything is a lot where you live? That will hardly get you an unfurnished bedroom with a shared bathroom and shared kitchen in somebody else's house around by me. I work in the hamptons right now, and had a perfect view of a fireworks show. Multiple actually, probably between 6 or 8 depending on what you call a show versus just blowing stuff up. The one show was 15 minutes, very coordinated with heart shaped and xoxo shaped fireworks(how do they do that?) and this particular show had atleast 5 fireworks at any givin time in the air. It was An amazing show. people started gathering around for the show in perfect silence. Lightning strikes and I kid you not, every single one of the 15 of them ooh and ahh over it, then go back to watching the show in silence. Link to comment
altolamprologus
Also, show me the green one! If you go back several pages, the second video I posted shows a big green female. The green baby is just like that, just 10 times smaller I haven't read up on this in a while an feel so out of the loop. Everything looks amazing! Glad to see you check in here, I haven't seen you in a while There will definitely be some inbreeding, but I hope to find a couple people I can trade horses with to refresh the gene pool. When I have way too many for the tank to support, I'll probably start selling off some young ones. Or I could start a 20 long for dwarfs Link to comment
Whys
If you go back several pages, the second video I posted shows a big green female. The green baby is just like that, just 10 times smaller I like that one, but it's about.... 10 times too big! I never even considered the potential for inbreeding. It can't be easy finding others to trade with. Dwarfs seem like such a high intensity sport. Pat, fireworks AND lightening? Sweet! I miss the kind of lightening I used to see when I lived in NC. East coast storms put most fireworks to shame. Link to comment
Felicia
Alto and I can start trading at some point. I think we're close enough that we could trade without too much hassle to prevent too much inbreeding. I'm glad to hear the babies are doing well and growing. That's exciting that you'll have even more babies soon! I'm getting so impatient, but I definitely think its the right decision to wait until after my trip in August. 8 days is a really long time to be away from such a new tank. Once its well established and I get one of my friends trained on brine hatching and feeding and water top offs, then it won't be such a huge deal. Link to comment
altolamprologus
I lost a horse today It was the male that's not pregnant. I'm not surprised though, he hasn't been doing well since I got him. He was always hiding and didn't eat with as much fervor as the other ones and never showed an interest in the morning mating dances. On the bright side, the remaining 5 are still doing great. The babies get bigger everyday and the pregnant male's pouch continues to expand. I swear you could fit an adult dwarf seahorse in there without too much trouble. There has to be at least 6-8 babies in there, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were 10 or more. I hate waiting for them to be born! Link to comment
Meus
If I may ask, What are you feeding your dwarfs? And how often do you feed them? Link to comment
altolamprologus
If I may ask, What are you feeding your dwarfs? And how often do you feed them? About 60% of their diet is newly hatched baby brine shrimp. Once a week I'll throw in some older brine enriched with phytoplankton. The other 40% consists of Tigriopus californicus copepods fed on a mix of 5 species of phytoplankton. I feed 3-5 times a day, depending on how much I feed at once. I always keep enough food in there so each seahorse has at least 5 food items within reach at all times. Link to comment
altolamprologus
The babies were born this morning! The latest count is 20 babies!!!!!. That has to be some kind of record Time to beef up my brine hatching... I also changed a few things in the tank....vid coming soon Link to comment
Meus
IIRC, record was 28. But 20 is still pretty amazing. Can't wait for the video! And good luck with the babies. Link to comment
