jedimasterben
I finally changed the peroxide in mine yesterday afternoon. 100mL 35% peroxide to 150mL water for about a 15% solution. I'm really glad that I can buy peroxide by the gallon for about $50, otherwise these $18 230mL bottles would make the oxydator one of the most expensive pieces of equipment over time lol. atoll
Its the midrange D I believe With the brown large cap in which case you do have to ensure its fully home all round. I'm finding about a liter of 17.5-20% for $23 with shipping, or 3.8L 17.5% for $42 shipped. There are shipping restrictions here, 35% is hazardous to transport and requires a license to do so. Not many would be willing to pony up for it. Link to comment

albertthiel
If you are using the model "D" then you have to be very careful the cap/lid is firmly on if the model "A" then the orange plug needs to be fully turned against its stop to ensure there is no leak of peroxide. Albert had a similar issue with his model "D" I believe. Yes I did and I had not made sure what Les explained. Once I did the issue was resolved Albert Yeah, I've been to every store locally and cannot get anything above 3% Strong solutions are hard to find in retail stores. Check on eBay or a chemical supply house Link to comment

Yeah it would be better to buy small amounts and use it up rather than buying a big old thing of it. It breaks down pretty quickly unless it is stabilized. Link to comment
Maximus831
Ahh, very true. But then again, how do we even know that the 35% solution is really 35%? Link to comment

Marc.The.Shark
I refilled my mini 2 days ago with the supplied 4.9%, it had about 1/5 left. So prob lasts about 2 weeks if I let it go. I stayed with 1 catalyst for a little longer to see effects. Observations: 1. Still getting film on the glass, but at the 3-4 day mark vs. 2-3 days before. 2. My oxydater is in the 1st chamber of sump, then frag rack, then cheato. I was noticing a slight whitening of my cheato in some areas, not totally bleached out. This has continued, but hasn't gotten worse. My cheato has doubled in size as usual since my last pruning 2 weeks ago. 3. Water is definately clearer. 3. No issues with corals. Link to comment
tibbsy07
I've also read differing points on freezing peroxide. Do you think we should freeze it? Go with refrigerator. 35% stocks in labs are to be kept in the fridge (as per instructions on the bottles we buy in lab), so I'd suggest the same for at-home use. Link to comment
jamescstein
I've also read differing points on freezing peroxide. Do you think we should freeze it? Freezing peroxide will concentrate it. Don't freeze it. Yeah, I've been to every store locally and cannot get anything above 3% health food stores? I found 30% in a local coop called New Leaf Market. In the 'vitamin' section. Quick update on my wifes 125g.. It looked like things were improving but now it appears she is having a dino outbreak. The oxidator is in the sump, next time I add peroxide, which should be in a few days, I'm going to move it into the display. Link to comment

I think it is actually illegal to sell it here in NC. If not, no one does. Link to comment

I've looked at that website, but I'm not sure how up to date it is. If I search for the House of Health stores (the only 2 close to me in any way) on the House of Health website, the Greensboro one isn't listed, but Google maps finds it. That is the closest to me ~1 hour away. I may try and call them, but for the cost of gas round trip for an hour each way, I could just buy it on amazon. I also noticed, by the way, that the lid on my oxydator wasn't totally sealed this last time. I thought I had sealed it all the way (pushed it down and double checked it), but it seems it somehow dislodged itself. Maybe the 2 catalysts reacted the peroxide too quickly and pushed the lid open a bit? Either way, I'm glad I took it out for now. Link to comment
Chrisl1976
So I am getting on the boat of......"it gets way worse before it gets better". Aside from the unit still dosing a lot (1/4 bottle since yesterday) ......I'm getting some major GHA growth. Link to comment
CJJon
What about a beauty supply store for the H2O2? We have Sally Beauty Supply here (West coast) and they have the high-temp stuff (I use it for rocket fuel). Might want to try to find one of those stores around you in NC. Link to comment

Chrisl1976
I will say one thing, the amount of algae on my glass lately has been reduced. Although not sure that is worth the trade off for spending 30 minutes scrubbing my rock with a brush Link to comment
