Byrdman
I have honestly never Checked ph in my tanks and have never had a problem keeping sps or any coral so far. Ph has so many factors involved and for some because of their homes and other factors can't get ph up to where it really should be. I you can get your alk and ca to where u want them and keep them stable you should be ok. Although I don't quite think it's you've problem I would increase your mg to 1300 1350 is the ideal range. Elos is a good kit I use that for mg and salifert for kh and ca Link to comment

louphoenix
PH was 8.3 last I checked it (which was not today). What time do you dose? Does it matter? I know ph swings throughout the day, but I don't remember reading that alk levels do. Do they? I usually dose in the evenings, when i'm home. About the only thing i'm doing to maintain ph is to open a window once in while and run the fuge in reverse lighting cycle. Hey the tank is 3 months old today! Seems like I have had it a lot longer, wow. Congrats. Here's to many years of success and wet water. Link to comment

violinist
Congrats on three months, I thought this tank was way older. looks great for three months. Some of the rocks and frags came from a bc8 that had been running for a month or so before I transferred it all, but that's about it. Maybe a birthday trip to the lfs is in order this afternoon. I'd like to try some top down shots, but need to figure out how to get the light out of the way (but still shining on the tank) before I can. Link to comment

Arkayology
The Yellow Candy Hogfish that I have is the only reef safe hogfish. It really does not bother anything. It just zooms around in and out of the rocks lookin for pods. Awesome fish and very hardy. Look up some info on it. It just looks plain awesome without the aggression you get some hogfish or wrasses. A Yasha or Blue Spot Jawfish would be sweet though. I always wanted a BSJF. Link to comment

I find it great for open top tanks because being a cryptic fish it doesn't venture far from the rocks so when spooked it doesn't display that jumping reaction commonly seen with dart fish and wrasses... it heads straight for the rock work instead. violinist
BSJF would be cool and I know where one is ready to be bought, by I don't have a deep sand bed for it to root around in. Maybe if/when there's a tank upgrade I might keep the jawfish in mind and build accordingly. That gbg is pretty cool looking. Link to comment
