PieMan2k
Carpets are different, they are fish eating machines! Not to mention my father and I are both allergic to their stings. Where we get stung it swells up for about a day or two and stings like fresh fire ant bites the entire time. Link to comment

vlangel
Sorry to hear about the nem, Harry. That stinks but sometimes they just refuse to do what is good for them. You handled it's demise well with doing an impromptu WC and running carbon. I have had them shredded in my koralias and handled it the same way you did and everything was fine. I am sure your tank will be fine also. Link to comment
HarryPotter
Wouldn't suggest it if they didn't young padawan.Mandarin is being a happy fatso with frozen food and garlic. 5 drops of garlic concentrate per cube, it's chowing down Next time I'm going to do it with ALL pumps off so it can get even more, and perhaps try without garlic to see if it will go after the frozen food anyway. Was gonna say, with all the stuff you're putting in, if you didn't have one, then it would be a good investment, but you've got it covered. Link to comment

Yeah I couldn't handle measuring out 13ml of each part three times a day! A cheap jebao doser works great- plus I have 2 more heads available if I decide to dose Mg or dissolved acro power. I have no need as of this point for alk/cal dosing, but would have the heads available for it Link to comment

jedimasterben
I have only heard silica in the context of causing diatoms, why would you want to dose it? To grow things like diatoms, excellent nutrient export IMHO. Silica is rapidly used up by sponges and small bits like feather dusters, as well. http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2003/1/aafeature1 Link to comment
