I can do the water changes. Anything else I should do? I have a lot of carbon in the sump, what else? I won't be home for a week

Changes and carbon will take care of it. The 100% change is to remove 99% of the offending water, the carbon will take care of the rest.

i saw steen use a 1" elbow so will pick that up today

so crazy how high this skimmer is running 5 1/2

The skimmer outlet was splashing water, nothing a 1" elbow couldn't fix!

 

I picked up a 1" didn't fit inside my outlet what do you suggest?

sand paper and some elbow grease, just like I did, hehehe

On a side note, my tank is a wreck after being gone. Think the tap water issue killed te Chromis, nowhere to be found, etc. Gonna start fixing tomorrow
