Whew! Just spent most of today reading through all 84 pages and I want to thank you for allowing us to follow your journey, warts, RTN, and all. As one who has all kinds of equipment but can barely keep zoas, watching your sps grow like gangbusters gives me hope that maybe someday I can do the same. Keep posting your Acro Porn and I can't wait to see what the tank upgrade brings!

You got the 50 wet yet???? lol The 17th isn't that far away ;)

I know, it's creeping up quick- not wet yet but I did get some plumbing done

On a much larger scale though ?. Trying to get another pour in before it gets colder

Idaho Grape is on a growing spurt like crazy. It grew up and over my frag rack and was hurting my Setosa. Since I am in Chicago all week I decided to separate it and see how long it actually takes to grow back into contact - I'll keep moving the Setosa away though.

As of 9-27-15. It's a good 1/4 inch away or more

Yeah, I felt like a teenager on Instagram! But hey, you should know your corals (and pics of them) are amazing!

I've been lurking for years! Started a 40B in about 2010 then lost everything in the October 2011 ice storm when I lost power for a week. Only thing that survived the 60 degree temp was a green micromussa! Anyhow, I decided to upgrade to a 65 gallon and turned my 40 breeder into a sump plumbed into the basement. I've got decent equipment - 2x AI Sol blues, bubble magus curve 7 skimmer, mp40 and mp10, Ro/DI water etc. -but my corals just don't want to grow. I tore the whole thing down a few weeks back to repair a plumbing leak and get rid of the rotten smelling sand, so I'm kind of starting over figuring out how to get coral growth. I've toyed with doing a tank rebuild thread but im kinda lazy that way. That's my story in a nutshell.

Basement sump- now that sounds fun. Good equipment. Sounds like you should be cruising along! So many variable though - tough to trouble shoot. Put a thread up on here with your build and the whole community will start helping ? it's good around here in that way. It's such a rewarding hobby but when things go bad- and they can quickly - it gets frustrating. Keep at it and it will turn around

So when you gonna knock that back section out and run a ramp down the hill to a half pipe or somethin? :) lol

Better get that new tank wet and cycling tho, or are you precycling the rock somewhere??

Shhh.......don't let the wife in on this- soon all 3 acres will be concrete ?

I am gonna pull some existing rock out of the Nuvo and the lfs has rock that is cycled - it's what I used before so the amm. Spike should be minimal and the tank will be ready fairly quick compared to using new rock!

waitign to see whats to come. your nuvo was my inspiration to get my nuvo dialed in... after the daily water changes and adding a dose, i am finally seeing the progress i wanted!

Both sound awesome :)

Still look forward to seeing what you do with the 50 when you get it running. I know it will be sweet :)

Thanks Chris!

Tapping my foot waiting on your 50G...........

? it's coming............slowly but surely.....in Chicago this week so progress has halted- definitely taking baby steps

Thanks Rural! That's awesome you've implemented daily w/c's - it's definitely quick and easy and causes little stress to the corals. Are you running the reactor at all? Do you have a build thread?

Hows Chi-town? Been a few years since I've been there. I'm with you on the slow start to the next project. Had to get my sump quieted down, which i finally did, now out of town for 12 days for work starting tomorrow, then my son's BD party. Hell, it's lookin like a Xmas startup for me!! Lol

I did those changes for a month and everything stabilized very well, and I feel gave the tank a good jump start in the right direction. now have gone to weekly 30% while dosing Ca and Alk 4x day with doser. the only reason I have not done the reactor is wife has limited future reefing purchases (shes planning on Christmas gifts I guess?).

yeah, here is my thread "lost shaker of salt":

Better playing it safe- as they say nothing good in a reef tank happens fast! I guess that is true with starting one too?. 12 days for work- ouch- that's a tough one- I am gone for 4-5 days and it seems forever. Chicago is great- I havn't been to a BIG city in awhile- Denver is such a small city it lacks some of the nostalgic feel- the little mountain towns is where you get that in Colorado. i am looking forward to having a sump again- tinker tinker tinker

Nice! I usually walk down near Millennium Park on my lunch breaks!

Loving Chicago- I am at the Chicago Athletic hotel- really cool hotel- I can see the bean out my window! Been chilly last few days- kinda surprising. So many food options - it's fun to be in a big city!

yup, you have tons of dining choices in downtown. you can just uber everywhere too if you dont want to walk.

If you have time, go check out the Grant Park Skate Park. Opened a year ago. About 15 mins walk from Art Institute on Michigan.

Haven't had a chance to make it to the park- been going to dinner with our doctor that runs our center then just walking around the city in the early evenings- fun to be in a big city in crowds of people. I am staying in the Chicago Athletic hotel- really cool hotel. The rooms are nice with a vintage feel. This is a great area for sure!

Poci frags that have grown onto the glass in its ever charging attempt to take over the whole tank

Glad your fellin better. Man, the tank looks like an Epsom Salt bath, what's the temp? I'd love to soak my feet in there right about now! Lol, JK. Been pining to get water in mine, but still a lot of stuff to do. Every time I think I'm close I decide to change something else! Lol, gonna be another month! What R U running for a sump?
