Tron, great setup. Very excited to see more CAD setups hitting NR. Quick question, do you think that 4 bulb fixture is sufficient for good growth on SPS? Considering a similar setup and want to look into the ATI fixtures, just can't decide on 4 bulb or 6.

Thanks!

Hey Eco, thanks for stopping by the thread. Feel very confident with any ATI, I chose the 4x24 due to tank width restrictions... even with my new tank I'm not quite sure how the 6 bulb would spill... I think its plenty for my needs...

Here is some ways for you to gauge growth on the 4 bulb at 10-12" above the water :) enjoy...

This is a tip from the Valida in the current tank and the light is at 12", I'd say its happy :)
Still working on tweaking a few things to get the color the way it was, my transfer had some issues and I even lost a bulk of my stylo... but its coming along!
Hope this helps you decide!

Wow Tron, the valida is looking awesome!

Was.... thats the way it was when i got the pico into a zeo groove.... it completely lost that beautiful color during the initial hold period in my transfer hiccup....

working on getting it back to that... growth rates are returning, now working on getting the colors back... not sure if it got so light from intense light, long photoperiod, or lack of nutrients... had only 2 clowns back then, now i have 1 clown, midas, wrasse, and mandarin....

who knows... but i miss that color!

Finally saw one of these tanks in person. Man... it's good looking. But then I'd be copying you. LOL

Haha, the more cad tanks going around, the more likely Stevie T will finally make baskets for the 34g!

He's still ignoring my pm's!

Are you still using the B+ C+ B+ C+ bulb combo? Have you thought about switching things up?

This setup is only a few months old. My next setup will be front to back:

Blue+

Coral+

KZ Super Blue

Blue+

Looking forward to this one!

Looking good. Makes me miss my large frogspawn colony :'(

Haha, thanks pong, wish my other softies would grow as fast as the lps and sps!

Hey Tron, have you had a good experience with the PLS 50 skimmer? Looking at all the options for the back chamber and I'm thinking keeping with the CAD family is a good idea.

I just made a huge post on this topic over on Reef Central... In a nutshell, for whats comparable on the market, its a simple choice... as far as size and footprint, versatility of placement, cost, and performance, its all thumbs up. I think the design is what makes it as efficient as it is, being a more traditional skimmer design allowing bubbles to form and elevate naturally, apposed to design such as Tunze, etc... which are not built as traditionally as larger skimmers... the foam head builds up more naturally and assists in the production of excellent skim mate....

Use these as a reference... the first being in the current 34g Tank then to my previous tank...

passing a spatula on the inside of the neck.... yuck
I will add as well, upon initial break in, it will have excessive micro bubbling but only as the bottom drain plate has not yet sealed with bacteria and has not pressurized.... after about 10 days, it will seal and micro bubbles will become non existent... having said that, anyone with half a brain won't put the skimmer in the return chamber so bubbles never make it to the display, but my refugium did get extra oxygenation! LOL......
Hope this helps persuade you... as far as cost vs performance, you can't go wrong.... worth it for the $100 in my opinion!

So could anyone advise me on what I should do with the snail eggs all over the bulkhead of my return line?

-Leave em

-Suck em out

-Blow them off

??? :blink::wacko:

Thanks
