Polarcollision
Thanks for thinking of him! He's going into surgery tomorrow! Hoping everything goes well!! If it helps you feel better about the surgery, my cat developed a soft tissue sarcoma from a vaccine. The vet cut decent margins between his shoulder blades - also an area tough to get good margins. That was 7 years ago with no recurrence. Mushu is super cute. Link to comment

Polarcollision
Wait, it developed from a vaccine??? Cuz Mooshu got his annual vaccines 1 week before we found the soft tissue sarcoma. It's somewhat frequent in cats, the main reason the vaccine site recommended is the leg instead of the shoulder. I honestly don't know how common it is in dogs as I've personally never heard of it. It's one of the adjuvants that doesn't match well with some immune systems, I believe the multi-year rabies vaccine has the most issues (again my knowledge applies to cats). It was about a week after vaccine that we noticed it on Tigger. Google? I'd definitely ask your vet/surgeon about it. We were advised to not give Tigger any more vaccines and we elected to not give them to his brother either. Link to comment
ninjamyst
yea, just spent alot of time googling this. you are right, it's mostly with cats. and i asked my wife and she said Mooshu's vaccines were given at the shouldner and not at the knee. Link to comment

Well, that's good to know. It's unnerving to not vaccinate a pet - glad that's not a likely cause. At least soft tissue sarcoplasms are curable with surgery. It was benign in Tigger's case, even growing fast. I'm hoping for the best for you all as well. Sorry if the vaccine link stressed you out - I was hoping to convey the positive out come. :-) Link to comment
ninjamyst
Mooshu's surgery went well Friday. They took a lot out so hopefully that means they got it all. My wife and I took turns sleeping on the floor with him the first night cuz he kept whining from the pain. Next morning, he's hopping around on 3 legs like nothing happened =). Everyone thinks he's a girl so they gave him purple wraps.. In tank news, I got a new yellow head torch and a huge chunk of sun coral from a local nanoreef meetup. But the torch has 2 barnacles in it and it's pissing me off...ARGH. I am also out of room so I had to move all the torches to the Spec. I rearranged alot of stuff so I hope to get a picture this week before I head out to San Francisco for a long weekend. Link to comment

In tank news, my new sun coral has not opened yet, not even when I am feeding Larry's. Starting to get worried. Don't worry about your sun coral yet. Usually they only open up at night. If you can, check on it a few hours after lights out, or a few hours before lights on. Mine opens and closes all day/night long. Sometimes this means that it's closed when I feed the rest of my tank and it doesn't get dinner. ETA: Just checked on mine now. Lights went out an hour ago and my sun is currently puffed up like crazy! Definitely growing a 4th head!! Link to comment
mpsti05
Agreed check on that guy late at night, sometimes I'd put a pellet or two right on my dendro's when the pumps were off and they'd slowly suck um in. Link to comment
Simone
So glad to hear about Mooshu!!! How is the Pico Skim breaking in? Link to comment
ninjamyst
PicO Skimmer is awesome! I am still adjusting it for a dry skim right now, but I like it a lot. I have the MAME skimmer on my Spec V, and when I have time, I will do a comparison between the two. They are both good. I am leaving for San Francisco tomorrow to see my sister. Last time I went there, my tank crashed so I took some pics today in case it happens again, and I can at least cherish the photos =P. I am sure things will be fine. Just did a water change and only gonna be gone for a long weekend. 14 months FTS. Two firefish still buddies. Hides alot but surprisingly only comes out when I am next to the tank. They know it's feeding time! https://flic.kr/p/pKwKpj'> Got all of them in one shot. https://flic.kr/p/pMGmsm'> Rics garden doing great! The new rics are still changing color and getting less bleach. One of them looks like a rainbow with orange/red/yellow. https://flic.kr/p/pMC55x'> Moved all the hammers and froggies to one spot for a LPS garden. Torches are all in the Spec V now. https://flic.kr/p/pMGmvh'> Zoas zoas zoas https://flic.kr/p/pv8q6x'> God of war spreading fast https://flic.kr/p/pvbaa3'> Fairy dust! https://flic.kr/p/pvbJFR'> They hide under the branch rock and come out here to play https://flic.kr/p/pKwKkG'> Another FTS https://flic.kr/p/oQPBUv'> Link to comment
