mpsti05
Was actually pretty stable with 8.4dkh and after a 3 water changes and 25ml of alk it's gone up quite a bit. So I've been lowering the alk dosing over the last week. Would like to get back to that as I've seen lots of pe from the tort at that level and less with alk high. Link to comment
SouthFlorida_Tron
Exactly.... And y 3 changes? Link to comment
mpsti05
Over the course of 3 weeks, I do a 5 gal water change every Thursday, I may have just left the alk dosing slightly high and that's why I'm at 9.8 Link to comment
SouthFlorida_Tron
Wait for Christine's input. Link to comment
NanoTopia
Your ALK and Ca are out of balance. If you prefer NSW levels, stop dosing ALK until it drops to 7.5 dKH. It will drop on it's own. If you prefer higher levels, start manually dosing Ca until it is at ~450ppm Your salt mix probably has high levels of ALK and when you do a water change it bumps the total ALK up in the tank. My suggestion is to try and find a salt that mixes up close to the levels you wish to keep and if necessary suspend auto dosing on the day of your water change. Link to comment

SouthFlorida_Tron
I did this and it worked great with lots of testing. Link to comment
Arkayology
I second what Christine said. Let it drop to 7.5-8 and then see what you need to dose to maintain it there. Link to comment

I prefer heavy once a day feedings especially with my jawfish, I'm sure I've got some nitrates and phos is usually around .03-5. I ordered some new red sea nitrate test kit that should be in soon. Had him a bit over a yr now! But he's a bastard, always trying to steal food from the jawfish. I really like the little island especially since I finally got the dendro's in a place I like. I took down the floating rock on the back wall after my water change this evening. That Duncan! Thx again man. I rearranged my tank and I love it again. Your welcome bro! It's looking awesome in there. Yea the Duncan is one of my favs along with the birdsnest, started as 2 heads and now is about 30 or so. You grab another mp10 yet? Link to comment
pschom
No I can't right now. I need to post some good pics of how it really looks. It's funny that the BTA is all the way up there and now the clown finds it. Link to comment

Yea it's pretty wild, damn nem went on a walk from the back top left of the tank, walked the glass past the mp10 on the left side then got stuck on the right side mp10, luckily didn't get to mangled and crawled out to its current spot and the clowns use to sleep there so they jumped in....... Felicia
Woohoo! Jawfish photos! Great shots They looks like they're doing great. Its funny that they've picked basically the exact same spot in your tank that mine have in my seahorse tank: off to the left side under the rocks. That gorgonian you got looks like its doing really well and I love how it looks in your tank. I also really like that new island you made! Link to comment
Arkayology
Lol! I'm finally off tomorrow I'll snap a few pics! Lol no way are my nutrient levels low! I prefer heavy once a day feedings especially with my jawfish, I'm sure I've got some nitrates and phos is usually around .03-5. I ordered some new red sea nitrate test kit that should be in soon. Well, if you are not very low nutrients, I would run your alk a little higher in the 8-8.5 range. For a long time I was getting ZERO encrusting and very very very little growth in my system. This could be because it was too clean (not my opinion, but it could be argued). Since I always had some phosphates and some nitrates, I decided to raise my dkh from 7.0 to 8.5 in my 40g rimless over the course of a week. I have noticed that some of my acro frags and colonies are starting to encrust again as a result after just one week. My reasoning for this is that low end DKH levels are recommended for low nutrient systems, but if you are not low nutrient I would run in the 8-9dkh range. This is just my opinion though. I also had my dkh at 9.5 in my 60g cube with biopellets running and saw great growth with undetectable nitrates and phosphates. Something to think about at least. It might be worth experimenting with a little bit higher dkh. Raise it slowly and see how the corals respond. Link to comment
