hb2envy
Nice, so where are the pics? I'll post them on 3-30-09 or the 31st. Also, on 3-29-09, I just added 4 heads of Kryptonite candy canes and an ORA Green and German Blue Polyp Acropora frag. These were from my lady - Thanks hunnie bunnie - I REALLY appreciate it!!! I also traded my 1 head and 2 baby Red Aussie Acans for a Purple Millepora, I wanted to make some space on my sand bed and didn't really get into the whole Acan thang. Plus I wanted to try out my first Millepora with my stock RSM lights and see what happens! Link to comment

ryanmilo
WOW! Amazing. I am going to print out your maintenence chart, you have everything pretty well organized. Do you test for your Iodine, Magnesium, and Strontium? I have a daily regamin but know I will have to dose soon with additions to the tank. Thanks for sharing your work, will help us who are just starting. Link to comment
TonyV
Wow! What a tank. I really like how organized you are. Your list helps me figure out what thrives and what doesn't thrive in a RSM. Looks good. Where did most of the corals come from? I am in San Jose. Link to comment

Thanks for sharing your work, will help us who are just starting. Thanks "ryanmilo". Yeah...I really need to be organized for all of the hard work and effort that I had already put into this tank - Especially with the fact that I have many different kinds of corals in there. But I am glad to hear that this will help out a fellow reefer as well as the rest of us. Now as far as testing for Iodine, Magnesium, and Strontium - I haven't tested for any of those yet, but will start testing my Magnesium as soon as I purchase a testing kit for that. But yeah...once again - you're VERY welcome for the oragnized list Ryan, anytime! Link to comment

Looks good. Where did most of the corals come from? I am in San Jose. Thanks TonyV! Yeah man...it really helps when everythings on a set schedule. I'm also lucky enough to have one of my siblings at home to help me with dosing the supplements when I'm not at home - which I would still have to call to remind him (this is only when I do not come home on Friday nights and Saturday mornings). And you're definitely right, my coral list should definitely help everyone with what does and does not work with in an RSM. Thanks again for your kind comment, but yeah....I get most of my coral from 5 locations/sources - Oakland: Lucky Goldfish Inc Pet Shop #(510) 836-3039 San Francisco: Aquatic Central #(415) 584-1888 Tropical Reef Aquarium #(415) 664-3552 Ocean Treasures Aquarium #(415) 861-9100 Milpitas: Aquatic Gallery #(408) 262-3400 Neptune Aquatics #408-935-9471 Union City: Atlantis Aquarium #(510) 487-8007 and of course - Craigslist.org Link to comment

hb2envy
More corals I just added on 4-11-09: Yellow base with Purple polyp Montipora Blue Steel Zoanthids (these look like Purple Hornets) And here's a link of how the Blue Steel Zoanthids look with better T5's and Metal Halides - http://www.cvreefers.org/showthread.php?t=12652 Link to comment
hb2envy
you went to Neptune? Yep...and they usually get a lot of cherry picked corals PLUS a lot of little frags for great prices!!! They normally target the nano reefers, but yeah...you should really check it out one time! Link to comment

hb2envy
Another update...on 4-15-09, freaking my Montipora Verrucosa fell on my Rainbow Effelio (possibly an Efflo and got stung. Only about a 1/4 of it is white. But I managed to dip the Montipora Verrucosa in iodine for about 10-15 minutes and it hasn't spread since then. I just didn't want to have to cut it in half since only a 1/4 of it got stung. I'm also hopeing that algae won't grow on the white area of the coral. Also, my Blue Steel/Blue Hornets Zoanthids didn't make it as well - possibly one polyp is still alive - we'll see what happens. Even my Orange Montipora has been getting stung by my Favia/Favite coral in the pass which it looks like I'm going to cut my Orange Digitata and savor what I can from it - about 90% of it white and it's starting to grow algae on it. I just hate to have to cut down my whole Orange Digitata Colony - it's also the bright orange polyp digitata too - not like the brownish kind. Well, I guess I'll just have to move that Favia/Favites somewhere away from my SPS corals when I cut down my Orange Digi sometime in the next two weeks. Anyhow, so it turns out that my Montipora Aequituberculata is REALLY a Confusa/Spongodes from what my friends says - which is all good. I'll acquire a Montipora Aequituberculata some other time in the future. Other than that, remember how me and my buddy went halfs on a possibly "Mystic Sunset Montipora" and an "uncommon blue pulsating Xenia" which I left in his 400w MH tank on 2-27-09? Anyhow, we were trying to let our Montipora to color up in his tank which it originally had a light purple base and purpleish/brownish polyps with "1" white stripe on each polyp. Well I found a very similar Montipora on this website - http://www.coralreefecosystems.com/ which they call it a "Purple Snowflake Montipora" which makes more sense. Here are the two pictures on their website which it use to look like: http://www.coralreefecosystems.com/images/...lesnowflake.jpg http://www.coralreefecosystems.com/images/...wflakemacro.jpg And after blasting them with 400w MH for about 1 1/2 months - the light purple base turned into more of a darker purpleish/brownish base now. And where there was more light, some of the polyps started to have "4-5" white stripes on each polyp other than just "1" white stripe. Anyhow - I finally added it to my tank on 4-17-09 and this is how it looks: Purple Snowflake Monti As well as for the uncommon blue pulsating Xenia, we're still letting it grow out in his tank and will add it to my tank as soon as it is ready. Anyhow, me and my buddy went to a few LFS again on 4-17-09 and went halfs on a purple undata which we left it again in his tank so that it can color up and encrust. It's similar to a Purple Idaho Grap Monti, but instead, it has a whiteish/purplish base and has bigger brown crevices which is the only place where the brown polyps are - you can barely see any polyps, but they are there at a close distance. When it's ready to frag, I'll add it to my tank - I'll try to take pics of it next time I go to his house and/or will try to find similar pictures of it on www.google.com. I also added a Yellow Scroll coral frag just because I already have the L.A. Lakers Scroll Coral: Yellow Scroll Moving on - so on 4-18-09, I added a very similar Purple Snowflake Montipora, but instead, it had an orange/reddish base and brownish polyps with "1" white stripe on each polyp. The colony had brownish polyps, but my frag had greyish polyps - it's possibly due to too much light in the frag portion of the tank at the LFS. Anyhow - here's a pic of it in my tank: Strawberry Daiquiri Monti Danae Let me know if any of you reefers have or ever seen these "1" white stripes on each polyp montipora's before. As of now, I REALLY want to get a frag of the REAL Mystic Sunset Montipora - Reddish base and clear/brownish polyps with "4-5" neon blue stripes on each polyp. Anyone who has a frag of that available - let me know! VERY interested in one and is willing to buy if the price is right as well as trade - PM my fellow reefers! So, on 4-19-09, I also added: -Copps Reverse Sunset Montipora -Blueberry Montipora Digitata (it looks like the purple digitata with purple tips) -Red Montipora Digitata (it's actually dark red and the branches are a littler thicker than usual) -Purple Montipora Digitata (it has a dark brownish/purplish base with brownish polyps) -ORA German Blue Polyp Montipora Digitata I don't have pics of these corals yet, but will post them as soon as I find a place for them in my crowded tank - haha. But yeah...a lot of my SPS are starting to grow pretty fast and is a little worried about coral warfare. I will either have to start fragging or possibly setup a frag tank to make new colonies and/or setup a new display tank - we'll see! hehehe! Link to comment
