HarryPotter
Great idea on that breeder box! I have one as well, but never considered it as a device for water changes! 1 Quote Link to comment
ReefWeeds
I'm glad to hear someone else say this in print! I love Xenia too, though at the moment I keep mine in my frag tank as it is easier to corral in there. I love it as well! the movement is just so cool. 100%! I've just ordered one of those long reach scrapers! Will be fairly easy as it's only the back wall and that's where the Fluval Edge's little opening is! Haha! Yeah I know a LOT of people hate it, and think it's a weed. But I like weed so it's all good!!! Just a few shots from this morning. I know you're not meant to have direct sunlight shining onto a tank... but it just looks so awesome at sunrise (I'm 40... I tend to get up early for no good reason!). The sun blasts it only for a few minutes (she rises fast!), so I think it's AOK! OMG, you know what is funny? I'm 41 and at about 40, I started getting up super early - for no good reason. Like 4:30/5 AM early. Started using the time to paint and watching the sunrise and painting just became such an awesome way to start the day. 2 Quote Link to comment

Ditto, I call it a weed but in my heart I love that pink pulsating goodness You are making me think about getting it again and constructing it to a rock- hmm.... I need a source besides the LFS ($25) 1 Quote Link to comment

Yes I've heard that- that Xenia melts if shipped. My LFS will probably trade some Xenia for two Montipora frags (Which they sell for $40 ) Quote Link to comment

Definitely do not have any early bird tendencies starting. Still a night owl. And now that I am between jobs and do not have to wake up at 5:30 to get ready for work, I am sleeping until the sun is well up! 6 Quote Link to comment
mpad
I dig those star polyps! is it a color morph? It would be nice if you have the scientific name? I'm lost with the English names... Quote Link to comment

I am getting on average about 5hrs sleep a night, seems to be fine, so far! I dig those star polyps! is it a color morph? It would be nice if you have the scientific name? I'm lost with the English names... Star polyps come in all sorts of colours I'm pretty sure? And they all share the same scientific name? I respect people that use scientific names for animals, but the onus is on them to know what's what IMHO! 1 Quote Link to comment

ReefWeeds
New Years Eve would be a tough night for you then? YES! I swear it takes me 2 days to recover And of course when i stay up late, I can't ever sleep late so I get all sorts of messed up! Generally I still feel like I can't be past 30. The whole not being able to stay up late anymore without consequences makes me reconsider 1 Quote Link to comment

Star polyps are called "Röhrenkoralle", which directly translates as "pipe coral", which is just too different. Pictures help, but it is a real PITA.If there only was a German - English coral dictionary 1 Quote Link to comment
Mirya
I've seen "star polyps" also called "daisy polyps." The scientific name is Knopia sp. 1 Quote Link to comment
RollaJase
Great top down shot, nice idea with breeder box also. I love the picture of your cat (I'm definitely not a cat guy), it looks so 'royal' in that picture. 1 Quote Link to comment

justinfox
In other news. I found this stack of CORAL magazines that I hadn't even opened! They date back to 2012, which was the same time that I shut down my 6ft tank. Looks like I've got plenty of bedside reading to do! 6 Quote Link to comment

justinfox
Got took delivery of 2 small bits of a orange hammer in the mail today from 100% Reef Safe in Queensland. They were packed really well, with a heat pack and a couple of chupa chups even! Corals in the mail! Perfect distraction whilst acclimating corals! The 2 tiny orange hammers started opening up right away pretty much! 6 Quote Link to comment

I have this really cool book which covers the basics very well, but if it comes to the technology part it gets funny. Like "some people begin experimenting with a new form of lighting called LED. Some with success..." etc. Maybe you find some fun nostalgic stuff, too. 2 Quote Link to comment
