I have a few dime size babies. however when I took 1 from the dt to the sump, it shrunk to like an eraser or black pepper seed size then slowly expanded. They are normally bigger than the size after being shipped...then they take a while to recover. Some tanks have good water so the guy recovers real fast. Some tanks take a lot longer....it is hard to say how big they are sometimes 🙂 Yes about the size of a dime or nickel in store not strestout from being shipped 1 3 Quote Link to comment

Strictly Fish Miami They have some that are more $$$ but there much bigger and from Belize and the colors are more intense then the ones from the Florida Keys And these are at another store down the street from Strictly there are 4 LFS on that same street within about 2 miles Some stores do try the Super Ultra RFA thing but they don't sell they might sell one or two now and then to people who don't really know about RFA's They'll have them in the store forever at the ultra price because every store has them down here and there's lots of LFS in South Florida and Rock Anemones are mostly from the Florida Keys 3 2 Quote Link to comment
ngvu1
These rock nems grow slow but they do burst a lot of babies once they are happy with where they are at. From my experience, it takes 1 year from tiny to over 1 inch in diameter in size with random feeding Quote Link to comment

The biggest is about 6" and I was feeding them weekly but they started to get to big and didn't have room and would start to move around the tank and some don't like other RFA's to touch them I don't know if there are different RFA subspecies that sting others cause some really look like there getting hurt if touched by others and because of this and them hiding I've lost 5 RFA's in the last 2 months so I stopped feeding until my bigger tank is ready. Really isn't fun to lose an anemone that you have grown from a baby. These are two that died last month both moved from there to the back of that rock and then come out and then melted away shortly after 😕 1 2 Quote Link to comment

I always see pictures of RFA's touching, but I recently got a few of the "special collection" RFA's on AquaSD and they seem to be stinging my other RFA's. One died, and another 2 lost a bunch of tenticles on the one side where they touched. Luckily they have all now moved away from each other, but I didn't even know this was a possibility or I would have placed them far apart to begin with. Quote Link to comment
BulkRate
Several of those "Special Collection" or funky named RFA's i'm seeing over on AquaSD look like they're sourced from Vietnam/Bali. Very similar look to Caribbean rock flower anemones (although way different colors/patterns)... but I'm under the impression that the two types will sting each other. 1 Quote Link to comment
ngvu1
I have 3 big rock nems and they all look like the ones from Florida. These guy can touch. I have a sand tray and I have like 10 of their offspring in there side by side with no issues. If they come from the same parents they should be able to touch right???? 1 Quote Link to comment

Yes...and I believe they often try to touch as a means of protection...especially if they aren’t hanging out under the skirt of a parent/adult for protection as they grow. 4 Quote Link to comment

ReefFish
When I first started getting RFA's was about 7 years ago and the colors where nothing like they are now but I would go from store to store to find the best colors stripping or patterns I could and at about the 6th one I got collecting for about a year I got a really nice dark purple with alternating white and light purple tentacles that looked like little Christmas trees long story short it killed all 5 other RFA's within a month it would sting it until it would move and then it would move to the next one and so on. I had that one for about two and a half years and got to the size of I'd say about 7 to 8 inches then for no reason I know of it just withered away and that was the last for me of the Rock Anemone thing or so I thought 😏 Then these ultras came to the market and I totally forgot about all the losses I had. You live You learn Then you forget and do it all again 3 Quote Link to comment

One of mine actually touches up against my blasto and I haven't noticed anything negative happen. It's still interesting because I thought they were all the same. Quote Link to comment
seabass
I guess Epicystis has actually been included in the genus Phymanthus. I'm not aware of a way to distinguish the two, except where they are collected. It was thought that the Indo-Pacific variety was more colorful, but we've also seen a host of new colorful Caribbean RFAs. 1 Quote Link to comment
Wingsong
I have two pinstripe (what I assume are) Caribbean RFAs and they are cuddled up together. The second one moved right up next to the first one who seemed annoyed the first day but neither has moved since. My Special Collection RFA from AquaSD also doesn't like to be near them, I don't think they stung each other but it did stroll away from the other two and is on the side of the rock. It seems to like less direct light? It crawled totally under the rock and then a week later realized it's a photosynthesizer and came back out lol. My first RFA didn't like being on the side of the same rock and crawled on top of it. So anecdotally, the cuddlers prefer more light than the one from AquaSD. I have an order of 11 nems coming next week and I am excited to get them in! I'll have to keep it in mind to avoid putting any too close to the AquaSD one - it hasn't seemed inclined to go and mess with the other two so far, but I want to give it some space all the same.\ Here they are in relation to each other, hard to get great shots of the cuddlers since I can't do side shots and have to go top-down... and there's a lot of water in the way. The tentacles on the Special Collection look different to me, they are very smooth. The other two don't look quite the same. 2 Quote Link to comment

Newstead
Need some intel -or guesses- as to what is going on with my "special bouncy" RFA (sounds better than my RFA with a defective lump) Over the last couple of weeks it moved from the sand to settle down into the joint between 2 rocks. Friday I noticed it's mouth looked weird, but a bit later it was normal. Just saw that in the last 2 hours it crammed itself completely down between the rocks and it left behind a ring of brownish tissue where it had been. Any ideas? I do feed it 1 small piece of mysis or LRS 3 times a week - too often? Should I leave it where it is or try to force it to move back out? Quote Link to comment
