SouthFlorida_Tron
Tron - I have been considering upgrading to the 34G MiniII and had a couple of questions for you. 1) I currently am using a NanoBox Mini Tide. If I make the switch to the 34G Mini, I am planning on switching to T5s. I have been really wanting to do a hybrid lately to get the best of both worlds, but probably would not have the money to invest in the LED portion of it right away. Therefore, I would probably just try to find a used ATI non-dimmable, 4x24W. I am asking you this as you have already made a similar transition - do you think it would be a bad move to go from a fully controllable LED unit to a on/off T5 unit? Do you thnk it would have any negative effects on my live stock? 2) The stand I currently have is 15.5" deep. Is this tank exactly 16" deep? If so, do you think I would have any problems with the stand being .5" less in depth? Hi Oracle, if you are looking to do a budget hybrid the ATI 4x24 (or even 6x24) with one strip of reefbrites mounted to the module is a great solution... Nothing wrong with going with the non-dimmable... when the T5's come on, once they go past 10% you can't tell what percentage they are at anyways! I did not have any negative affects... just watch for bleaching... and once acclimated, enjoy the amazing colors on the SPS. As far as the stand, I would be more concerned about the weight on a small stand...I know it says 16"... but its actually 29.5" x 15.5" (LxW) but its a beast of an AIO... so just be weary of the weight once full of water, rock, etc... Ive grown fond of oversized bookshelf type stands... not just in length but in width as well... Quote Link to comment

SouthFlorida_Tron
As much as I wish I took tons of pics, I spent more time on the Pico than I did my tank... I really want to utalize the nanobox 13ups to make a hybrid, but ill look into the reefbrite idea. As far as weight im not really worried as it is solid wood and can take the weight. Glad to know its actually 15.5 as it will work perfectly! Im planning to eventually move it to a builtin entertainment center that i will be building downstairs in the next 6 months or so. I jst wanted to know if i could utalize the current stand for the time being. Quote Link to comment
ifarmer
the rimless tank is always nice Unless you are doing sps otherwise it's a waste of money for running zeovit on an lps or softies tank. Quote Link to comment

Well, thats a matter of opinion, the mere appearance and cleanliness of the tank is more important to some, regardless of the contents held inside Quote Link to comment

Ecospire
Hey Tron, quick question. What does your water level look like in your second and third chamber look like? I'm sitting here scratching my head because I believe I have only used 25 gallons of the 30 of ro/di I had made up for filling this thing up. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
jedimasterben
Capacity is rated for total displacement volume, not the volume of water it takes to fill it to normal operating capacity. Quote Link to comment
Ecospire
Right, I understand where you're coming from. I'm just just curious as to where his water line is in the last two chambers. Quote Link to comment
GTi
Right, I understand where you're coming from. I'm just just curious as to where his water line is in the last two chambers. Based on the recommended skimmer depth setting, if his is anything like mine, the water level in the back chambers is slightly higher than the baffle to the pump chamber. I agree that calling this tank a 34 gallon is a little optimistic. Running it like this there's probably around 25 gallons in there, maybe less. HTH. 1 Quote Link to comment

SouthFlorida_Tron
This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a ton for the clarification! This is ideal. also, base your sump water level around the idea that the higher the level, the higher your skimmer will need to go (if you are using the pls50) which means it won't be hidden. keep in mind it was designed to have the skimmer hidden within the sump to be sleek and clean https://flic.kr/p/koihn6'>https://flic.kr/p/koihn6'>Untitled by https://www.flickr.com/people//'>J.L Photography, on Flickr https://flic.kr/p/koiisx'>https://flic.kr/p/koiisx'>Untitled by https://www.flickr.com/people//'>J.L Photography, on Flickr 1 Quote Link to comment
