Could you post a few more pics of how you hung your AI Sol? I'm in the works with an almost identical set up but I can't seem to figure out how to hang the thing without using AI's rail kits.

Also your pugs are adorable

So the entire set up I bought from Lowes.. 30 foot of wire (typical wiring a light would be hung with, braided steel) A pack of S-Hooks, 8-9 C-Clamps (I always buy way more than I need, I broke a few C-Clamps for over tightening) and then just a regular hook set for hanging things. Then I also bought a new drill bit, and some wire cutters.

As you can see I marked the wire where it goes into the C-Clamp to see if I'm getting any slippage. It's not pretty, but it will be more well put together once I get my AI.

instead using the s hook why not bolt the two wires together?

I have the drivers zip tied to one side of the fixture, and if I bolted them together it will hang to that side and won't be level over the tank. Doing this let me adjust the angle of the fixture over the tank.

Thanks man, it'll look a lot cleaner once I get the AI. I'm also buying the surface skimmer and media basket for the AC-70 this week. Going to contact Ecotech as well about this noisey MP-10.

Awesome, i was going to do the AI as well, but im going diy just fits my wants a little better. I actually use the Drs foster smith hob with surface skimmer on my 2.5 and love it. haha i need an mp-10 i would settle for noisey one right now lol.

Haha, mine sounds like a 2 stroke motor on full blast :P

And yeah, I like the DIY, but my wife doesn't like ugly :P So I have to get something clean and hipsterish. I dig the lightning storms too.

Glad you're going with the ai sol. It's a really nice light. Just wait till you see it in the works.

Yeah man I'm pretty stoked. I just want something clean and programmable. I like the look too, I like hipster stuff.

edit: for some reason it reminds me of Apple stuff, which in turn is hipster.

Lolol that's cool. You don't look hipster at all in the 1st page ahah.

I use to be a hipster but there's just too many out there like that.

Not only will you like the program-ability on it, but the color it gives out looks like star wars light sabers.

I never really minded cable confusion above a light fixture. If someone nitpicks the cleanliness of the hanging hardware, something went wrong with the display IMO.

Are there toggle bolts behind those hooks in ceiling or are those hooks put directly into a stud?
I hung a 48 inch sunpod from my ceiling with toggle bolts that open up behind the drywall. That is plenty for a light fixture you don't need them in studs.

The wife and my oldest dog: 24059_1254300922910_1110211_n_zps72ec8a7 Me in the middle with some buddies right before we cleaned up the bike trails at 7:30AM. I ain't scured. 530408_253572681436047_1124329085_n_zpsbOne more for fun, I swear this is not a staged picture. My boss told me not to move so I thought I was seriously hurt. He was grabbing his camera. This is what happens when you get a flat tire halfway down a 30ft long super steep ass hill filled with rocks and roots. 148516_10151318987674764_1312635562_n_zp
