Picked up a few things at the LFS yesterday. Got two corals a zoanthid and acan, four nassarius snails, five cerith snails and the wife picked out a black ice clownfish.

Overnight I lost one nassarius snail to the same hermit crab that claimed my scarlet hermits shell. Despite getting a few empty shells for the tank.  Hermit now referred to as Jack “The Ripper” for his forceful acquisition of shells.

Clownfish and one cerith have been placed on the QT tank. Cerith was cleaned of bubble algae and placed in QT for observation. Interesting part about the clownfish, one side middle stripe looks like North America and was purchased on Columbus weekend. 😄

What a beautiful fish! Love that weird pattern too. 😉 How's everything else in the tank looking?

Thanks, just hoping I can successfully pair this time. Wife insists on calling the gladiator clownfish Pennywise. 😔

Everything is looking good. Duncans continue to grow and small heads are starting to color up. Acans are always puffy and looking for food. Toadstool is always open and polyps (tentacles, mouths...? what ever the proper term is...) appear to be getting longer. Zoas are open most of the time but haven’t seen much growth.

Thought I would post my RODI/Saltwater station. It’s nothing fancy but it works. Used a garden hose splitter to tee off my wash machine cold water faucet connected to the hose adaptor the system came with. Mounted my 6 Stage BRS RODI system to an old tank stand. Water is collected in a cheap 20 gallon garbage can from Walmart, recycle #5 polypropylene. Drilled a hole for the float valve. Installed an submersible old pump with some vinyl and cut two holes in the lid. One for the hose to come out of and one to place the end of the hose into. For saltwater I use a 5 gallon bucket with a cheap $10 heater and Hydor Koralia. The 20 gal RODI storage usually needs refilled once a month and I mix salt every week or two.

And here is the setup at work for cleaning lab equipment. Used the bathroom sink to feed the 7 stage BRS system with the adaptor in the box. Didn’t cause any issues sine there was the main sink on the other side of the wall. Line runs through  the wall, just drilled a small hole on both sides then hid them with light switch covers. The line goes into the storage tank with a float valve. For storage a 12 gallon polypropylene container with a 1/2” bulk head, 3x close nipple adaptors, ball valve, 2x elbows, barb adaptor and vinyl tubing. The storage tank gravity flows to the sink.

A couple new things this week. First is a cobalt battery backup air pump (far left) setup to operate during power loss in the first chamber. Then I have a small breeder box setup for Columbus (black ice clownfish). Plan on moving him next week. Hope this can dissipate the aggression during pairing.

Yesterday I added a small stand to my ATO and began Kalkwasser dosing. Starting off at a small dose (approximately 1/6 tsp, 2g/gal) estimated to be about 0.3 dkh for my 0.75 gal weekly evaporation. This should help slowly increase my alkalinity as I have been loosing 0.2 dkh per week.

Thanks, for watching. I can imagine it being more difficult to setup an RODI system in a bathroom. Could probably hide it under the sink if your willing to sacrifice the space 😅. Otherwise some people have a smaller unit they setup for making water then box up when done but that’s to much work for me.

Big day today! Columbus (black ice clown) joined the main display. However, he will be hanging out in a breeder box to insure no aggression between the clownfish.

On another note I traded in my least favorite corals including the blue-green/yellow zoanthid and the wwc swamp thing favia. I was then able to pickup two new acans and another duncan.

Love those Acans. They look very hungry! Do you think you'll be getting even more in the future? I've seen some really gorgeous tanks that are dominated by Acans and similar LPS corals.

Great idea with the breeder box too. I love that last picture of the two clowns looking at each other through the acrylic! 😊

Yeah, hopefully! I do love the acans they are colorful and have movement when open. They also really seem to like my tank. Reefbuilders has some nano tank videos that have awesome acan gardens.

I read somewhere that a small breeder box could help dissipate some of the initial aggression. I really hope I can get them paired but kinda nervous after my first failed attempt.

So... Columbus made it out of the breeder box this morning. The hole on the top was just large enough for him to slip through. As expected the gladiator clown took no time to start harassing Columbus. Thankfully I was able to capture Columbus quickly and put him back in the box with more rocks covering the top hole. Looks like he has some minimal damage on both pectoral fins.

That's a bummer! I have the same combo, Gladiator and Black Ice and they get along great.

Here's hoping your Gladiator stops living up to his name!

Here is a look at the new corals from yesterday.

Orange/Blue and Green/Purple acans. The orange one is still looking rough but the green one seems happy.
