MetaTank
Did some stuff today. Got out the mitre saw for the first time in a while. Since seeing that beauitiful stand for someones tank in the contest thread, I cant stop thinking about stands. I remembered I had some old wood and got started Suffice to say, it's been a while, so I went through like an entire 8ft piece of wood trying to get the 45 degree angle set correctly on the saw...LOL But once I got the angle correct, things began to move a little smoother, and before you know it, I had something that was starting to resemble a stand... Then one last little push, and the frame is done! I recessed the top of the frame a bit, to help hide the black trim at the bottom of the tank. I'm just glad everything is square and it sits level...lol Now I just need to sand it, stain or paint it, and then panel the sides and back. Also thinking about a door for the front. I believe this mini tank may get an itsy bitsy sump when the competition is over...lol... 8 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
Oh boy, day two of The Official Stand-O-Rama Fest 2019 Jamboree Celebration !! Did a bunch of sanding last night. Gonna give it one more go with some fine grit sandpaper, then think about staining and paneling the thing...lol Suffice to say, had a fruitful trip to Home Depot last night. 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm SOOOO not handy, so I'm way proud of myself so far...lol Not finished yet. More sanding, staining, then I'm gonna panel the sides and back, stain it some more, and create a door with a magnetic closure in the front. Then maybe stain it a little more. Hopefully it works...lol 2 Quote Link to comment

MetaTank
Did a little staining today Then I cut out the area for my filter in my lid I made the other day Then I got real brave and decided to use the circular saw to cut out the panels for the side and back... But we all know that’s a terrible idea, so I did it by hand...lol I actually just finished staining the panels, they’re drying as I type this. Got side tracked earlier with some massive yard work... I had to cut down an entire tree, and not a tiny one either!! More pics coming soon! 5 Quote Link to comment
MetaTank
More stuff...the Stained panels from yesterday... Then I started working on the magnetic closure for the door by attaching the magnets And then is used an ISTY BITSY TEENY WEENY little tube of Superglue Gel to glue the metal plates that stick to the magnets to the back of the panel. Seriously, this tube is the size of my thumbnail... 😍 The after that dried for a few minutes, it was time to attach the knob. I chose one that gives me that "brain coral" sorta feel...lol And a quick visit with the drill brought it all together... 1 Quote Link to comment
Tigahboy
Looks like the knob is a smidge off centered. J/K. Looking 👍 3 Quote Link to comment

asting
Looks nice! Are you worried about heat with the glass top? I think I'm going topless, but would prefer to let me house be 78 or so when I'm away. I think a fan would let me pull that off. Could be a climate difference too, or I'm a cheapskate. 2 Quote Link to comment

Albeit, this is the first time I've really tried. I'm a professional chef by trade, so I can make a badass souffle, but other than that, I always thought I was pretty useless with tools. 7 hours ago, Wingy said: Very nice. Aww thanks! To be honest, I've been tooting my own horn for the past few hours...lol... I'm more pleased with myself than I think I should be. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon. 7 hours ago, asting said: Looks nice! Are you worried about heat with the glass top? I'm not too worried about the lid. It's acrylic, and I wanted it to cut down on evaporation. I will have the heater on a temperature controller, but if the light makes it too hot, I'll go topless and slap an ugly ATO system on there. 36 minutes ago, Lingwendil said: That stand is hilarious and adorable! LOL...I briefly had this idea of getting scale playhouse furniture, and making the Aquarium the centerpiece of some bizarre miniature livingroom diorama And last but not least...did someone say SNACKS??!? 4 1 Quote Link to comment

I've got this waterproof spray on acrylic coating, still debating whether o not I wanna spray it on. It certainly would waterproof things, so it's a good idea. I just don't wanna take the chance to mess up the stand with a bad spray job...lol 3 Quote Link to comment
