MainelyReefer
@Christopher Marks Official Final FTS: Rule Breakers Recap: I need a free nanoreef t-shirt and stickers to help me with my dad persona that will embarrass my children in public. Please help me be all the dad I can be by voting for my epic Dropoff tank that my family watches from the toilet daily. This is one sweet POOPico. Long term success is the plan for this tank, with an overall goal of its Leptastrea occupants brooding right in the tank and having a planula successfully settle. Air pump, Heater, Light, 100% waterchanges weekly. Photos Finale: View from the toilet 6 3 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Making your own drop of tank with a UGF definitely made this a very unique little pico. Then a single coral species was like frosting on a cake. Very interesting and I will continue to follow along as long as you keep us posted. I am guilty of over looking Leptastrea but will enjoy seeing how things progress. I am absolutely am a lazy reefer that loves coral that wave in the flow but might have to try a little frag of leptastrea some day. Having your fish breed was an exciting development. Good luck. 5 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
The Leptastrea that had receded during the more tumultuous part of the dropoffs maturing process are showing great PE and signs of recovery growth. And a few new specimens have been added due to the perceived stability, funnily enough the new ones are sliming and one even shows recession. Leptastrea are finicky but rewarding new green mouth red rim to the lower left. Similar to the pit viper that I lost on the upper deck so I’m putting this one lower down as it’s likely the same variant. This one is the one showing recession possibly where I handled it and it throws off slime. The other new frag of three Leptastrea grown together is center shot. This one is happy. The next two were moved from the upper deck to the bottom of the drop off and they have since recovered immensely. The first one was from my local forum and the guy I got it off mentioned lowering the light and he was right! Reefers sharing knowledge makes reefing possible. The next example is the Cornbred Citrus Bomb green, the exterior of the frag has always be one of my best growers and has actually encrusted onto the Dropoff wall on all sides, two interior polyps had died in the bumpiest part of the drop offs maturing process though. Recession had stabilized for a month or two after but no growth was visible. Now a few new heads can be seen budding from the surrounding polyps. Interesting note is that the two dead polyps are going to be replaced by 3-4 smaller polyps. This green one is awesome and only these tiny polyps remain, but it’s been this way for months so I am optimistic. This is the highest positioned coral in the tank..... he fried but I left him and nature prevails he wants to put up a good fight. A few polyps are forming from what once seemed like only a skeleton. I have been considering putting a film on the half of the glass lid that covers the upper deck in an attempt to reduce light intensity. Some of the corals have successfully adapted though, and apparently they are found in tidal pools in nature. I hate to make such drastic changes when a majority of occupants are happy. 5 1 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Sounds like every thing is improving. Are you now pretty happy with the light? I wonder if a small pc. of screen might work if you don't want to try the pc. of film. The screen can just be placed on or removed a bit easier. Then again if the corals for the most part are adjusting like you said why change any thing. Hope the corals continue to open up. Nice update. 2 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
Your bottom pic looks like a little wolf pup looking out of his den at his beautiful little world. 1 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
In celebration of winning a shirt and sticker in the rule breakers category, I got myself a new Dropoff citizen. I hope he’s not a coral eating dick and my wife says his face looks like a butt but I have always wanted a bumblebee shrimp and when I saw this guy harassing the starfish in my local petco I had to buy it for 9.99. No sales tax in NH too because we are the best state(other than for states who have legalized pot) poor guy is pretty ugly oyster center shot, got him super small from reefcleaners! 5 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Wonderboy
Congrats! Wow, that is such an itty bitty, tinnie winnie but awesome shrimp! I don't think he's ugly haha - he looks quite fancy to me :] 1 Quote Link to comment

Tempestas
Congrats on winning the rule breakers category! And the tank is really looking great, especially with the new additions. 4 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Getting good growth I also added a second bumblebee shrimp a few weeks ago shortly after I added the first one as I went back to the Petco where I found the first one at and the other one was in the same tank so I think they were a pair to start. Today while at my LFS picking up some frags and aquascape fix the girl working mentioned she couldn’t get a yellow clown goby to eat, he was drab Grey in color and I got him for a discount. He does eat frozen mysis when I tried though so I’m optimistic. This guy is full of personality, not sure if he will just be in QT in here or if he will work out to be a lifelong citizen of the drop off. He also colored up really quickly once in the drop off super strange how off colored he was in their tank. New shrimp on the top right too oh hi these shots where right after a WC as I wanted to make him feel welcome with pristine water. But some of the leptastrea are closed up I’ll try grabbing pics over Christmas where all the polyps are extended. 6 1 Quote Link to comment

I hope I end up being successful at saving him! He is eating brine shrimp like a champ now but still not flakes or pellets. I have frozen rotifers and cyclops I am going to try soon too as the brine shrimp practically choke him. I have a robust pod population in this tank that is helping keep him well fed through the acclimation to prepared foods. He can be seen hunting and has even ventured into the 4” deep upper deck so is willing to make do with a tiny home. He must be a hipster or a millennial. He has officially been named yellow by my 3 year old who tries feeding him flake daily during tooth brushing. And the wife gave him the stamp of approval compared to the Green Banded Gobies that once resided in here.. RIP😔. He even interacts with the two bumblebee shrimp nicely. Bonus Photo! 2 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
Two hours later and the Yellow Clown Goby officially eats flakes. I got three different kinds of flake food in my stocking and he eats the Cobalt Aquatics Pro Breeder flakes. Quote Link to comment
chaostactics
@GraniteReefer what became of this tank? 1 Quote Link to comment
MainelyReefer
The tank was shut down but the leptastrea live on! Totally loved this tank but the heater malfunctioned and I merged it into another tank. On 8/21/2021 at 1:44 PM, chaostactics said: @GraniteReefer what became of this tank? 3 Quote Link to comment
