Daves/NanoBox Red Sea 170 : NEW Video 1/30/19

Recommended Posts

DaveFason

It has been a wild ride with many different AIO tanks, no filter tanks, etc. I have had a Red Sea 170 in my spare room sitting there for eight months and finally decided it was time. I am extremely excited to be back with an actual sump, normal skimmers and just easy reef keeping.

  • NanoBox Duo
  • NYOS 120
  • IM Nuvo Pump :P
  • 2x Nero5
  • Tunze 6020 ( In Sump )

Super simple and back to the basics. I pick up corals that I enjoy and really looking forward to this tank maturing.

New Video : 1/30/19

Enjoy in 4K.

Macro Video : 3/11/18

Current Video : 1/3/18

Photos to come but for now here is a new video.

Enjoy!

I do and thanks. I run them more white during midday for ~ three hours. There is nothing better than seeing these corals POP.

Dave what is your light schedule if you don't mind me asking? I'm having an issue where all my corals are turning green.. even my Oregon tort... I've read articles running the led green/lime to high could do this... could also be nutrient or something else... what are your thoughts? Here are pictures

On this tank I run a max of 25% of white/lime. I run my tanks REALLY blue. There are plenty of people running much higher however with SPS with no issues. I would assume more of a nutrient issue.

I'll see if I can find more info on nutrient and green corals... my whites are only on 40% only 84 % blues

I had fun last night shooting stills and video. I am really enjoying this tank more and more each day. The NYOS skimmer is really starting to pull out nasty skimmate. Joey from Joe Knows Reef sent a small care package of a couple corals.

  • Red Zoas
  • Setosa - One of my all time favorites
  • Short Polyp Pink Goni
  • Rainbow Chalice

Enjoy the photos!

Awww yea.

Following this thread too :)

Yes sir. I dedicate two hours on Fridays to catch them up. I have five total. One at my house ( this one ) and four at the office. IM10, two planted UNS and a terrarium.

You actually have time for a tank?!

Tank is doing really well and I am already seeing growth on 90% of corals. I am really impressed with the NYOS line of skimmers as this one is pulling gnarly gunk out.

Quick video of a new RBTA.

Current dosing and feeding schedule -

  • 2x Daily 1/2 teaspoon PolypLab ReefRoids
  • 15 drops daily PolypLab Colors
  • 3x daily Mysis Dry food pellets
  • 2x weekly LRS Reef Frenzy
  • 1x Bimonthly Lugals

I was able to sneak away yesterday to fish on private land. This river/stream is fed by a natural spring as one of the healthiest I have seen. Sculpins and other baitfish everywhere. Insect larva everywhere. The rainbows were placed here years ago and have naturally bread/turned wild. There is zero poaching, only barbless hooks and catch and release. Resulting in massive fish, smart fish and just an amazing time on the water.

Fishing, shooting and just trying to keep everything together is extremely hard. But here are some photos I took.

Start the day with this bull mean mugging.

Enjoyed shooting some videos and stills this weekend. The enjoyment I get from this tank is far more than any other tank I have owned. The colors are ~90% accurate that you see in person. This is just before it switches to night, my personal favorite.

Growth has been really great in the tank. I have been dosing a bit more Reef Roids and see a huge difference. The NYOS skimmer has been putting in overtime as well.

Dave, what are your thoughts about this tank.

I'm thinking about getting one but am worried about the cramped stand space.

Those are some stunning rainbow trout. My biggest is 32". Caught it on my first cast. We didn't catch a single thing the rest of the day and I've never come close to a trout that big again. I've caught some MONSTER Northern Pike and salmon but not trout. I was down in Ft Lauderdale for Thanksgiving and was slaying the perch in the canals using bread haha
