Thanks :). I'm super nervous to install it because I'm worried I'll mess up my hood or something. What should I start the light at? I don't want to bleach anything but I really have no clue how powerful these lights are.

Which LED kit did you get?

I can't comment on the settings but the hood is pretty easy to take off, I installed some true lumen LEDs on mine last year, the whole hood comes off after removing these pins back there, and make sure to use a lot of aquarium glue to water seal any holes you drill.

. I went with the nanobox retro after a LOT of reading. I'm happy to know that the hood comes off easily :).

My mom is the one who picked up the box from the post office and when she opened it she couldn't figure out where the lights were! She thought they were just dots of glue and the actual lights were missing

Man after looking at that pic of wires and boards, I don't know if I want to go that route lol! YOu'll have to keep us updated on how the install goes and how she looks when done!

Stripping the hood was the easy part. I probably spent a good 6 hours on this install because i know nothing about this kind of stuff so it was a slow learning process. It was pretty easy considering how hard I thought it would be, I had a couple small hitches like getting screws that were too long to attach the heat sink and such, but all the equipment works great! Ignore the feet lol photobucket wouldn't let me crop

I used tin snips and a power drill to hack up the reflector. It's not beautiful but it works.

The installation thread for this thing said something about hooking the stock fans up too, but I couldn't figure that out so they are just sitting in there doing nothing. Will it be ok without them? The new fan is so quiet that I don't even notice it...my mom still complains though.

Splash guard in place and looking sleek ;)

I set the lights pretty low to start, but do these setting look ok? Is the fact that the color temp is all over the place throughout the day bad for the coral? I just liked how they looked no matter what it was set at so I wanted to have it vary throughout the day if possible,

How are you liking your nanobox retro? I have the same lights and I love mine.

Well I just installed it yesterday but I love the difference in color. All the corals pop more (the chalice the most) and there is really great shimmer. I love the bluefish app too, it makes it so easy to adjust the color. I haven't played around with every feature of the app yet, but I will soon.

To hook the stock fans up you have to splice the wires to connect them to the fan with the nanobox. I did it on mine, not to hard.

. Thanks! i wasn't sure so I didn't want to cut anything that I couldn't uncut.

I like the bluefish too. My favorite feature is the photo mode. It turns the blues way down so that pictures turn out pretty decent. Have you noticed any aggression with your flame angel in a smaller tank?

I'm looking forward to testing out the photo mode :). So far the flame hasn't shown any aggression whatsoever to the other fish or me. She does nip new corals once or twice to see what they are but other than that she is great. She also sometimes nips something if I have slacked off feeding seaweed.

I broke out the Olympus a couple days ago for some underwater shots...ok, a lot of underwater shots :P These are only the ones that are clear.

This is still stock lights. If some pics look weirdly colourful its because I used the pop art setting of my camera for a while.

I just noticed more baby dwarf cerith snails yesterday so I guess that the population is going to get a little boost, I have around 150 that I can see fairly easy. I'm sure there are more out of sight. I like seeing all the different sizes cause I can kind of judge how often I'm getting more.

Ok so I've been having some issues with RTN. On Monday I got home, looked in the tank and the first thing I noticed was that the bottom half of the small pinkish birdsnest was bare skeleton. So I took it out, cut off the tips that weren't touched in hopes of saving soemthing and put the mini frag back in the tank. It is REALLY tiny, three little nubs about 3mm long each. They still seem to be ok today.

So yesterday morning I got up and looked in the tank, everything seemed to be happy, but then I looked at the neon green birdsnest. The backside was fleshless about an inch up from the bottom. At least on this one I caught it earlier. I broke it into three frags so that I could get all of it easily and on this one I glued over the skeleton and a small rim of flesh. I dipped all the frags and placed them on the sand bed with the other one. Should I put them back at the top of the tank or leave them on the sand for a few days? They are also doing ok today.

Well, SPS like stability more than anything else, so if they seem OK now, they should stay OK as long as nothing changes.

But that's the infuriating and challenging thing about SPS, just as you think you've got it figured out, something happens and you get STN again.
