Oh Cindy, I'm so sorry about poor Fred. I know you took really good care of him. He was super cute. :(

he was! he was super friendly and the best photo bombing ycg ever. :(

this is why i can't have pets (i refuse to keep pets.) i get too sad and i

only had friend for maybe 4 or 5 months?

Ah I am very sorry about Fred.

:grouphug:

thank you, friends. it helps.

:grouphug:

i meant *fred instead of friend. :tears:

my brain does that without coffee, but

very appropriate!

Cindy :hugs:....so sorry to read about the troubles. Fred will be missed for sure.

I know how it feels to lose a perfectly healthy fish to jumping. It's a major bummer. Keep your head up though :flower:.

Sorry about the fish.

thanks, gena.

i am sad. i feel at fault.

i keep wondering when he jumped, i have to think

when i was feeding the tank, because it had been

completely covered after. the tank seems very empty

without him. he as such a friendly little dude.

i'm not sure if/when i'll feel ready for another fishie.

this weekend begins mutli-city travels for me through

thanksgiving. so maybe better to just have easy corals

and sexies in the tank for now.

hello friends! sorry i've been MIA.

was definitely very very sad about losing

fred, thank you for all the condolences.

but then i was headed straight to my first

author events for the year--was in santa monica

for two nights for a big young adult books festival

and then straight to austin for Texas Library Association

conference. i returned late tuesday night and have

been recovering ever since.

i did go in to ASD and looked at the fishies though

on WED when i went go get water. :) i'm so limited

on my choices with my 8g, and i'm reluctant to get a fish

i've already had bad luck with. (and there's a lot of those:

green banded goby, tail spot blenny, rainford blenny, etc.)

nothing really caught my eye, but the tank seems lonely

without a fishie.

on the other hand, i'm doing major travels this year,

leaving for 4 to 5 days at a time. i can ask the hub to

help out, but you know, in the end, what do they really know?

ha! nothing.

but i think if i see a fishie i like, i might buy one in

the near future. :)

i did a MAJOR tank cleaning today. i had gotten rid of

one sponge infested live rock and bought two others to

replace. so i did some rearranging of the scape and actually

cleaned out my pump for the first time. here's a fts! some things

are pissy, but overall, i think everyone is okay.

my ultra flower nem did move though, and it's been acting

a bit strange. hope it's okay.

i realized i will have had my naked worm for FOUR months

soon. he's still squirming! :) i

Sorry about Fred :( but if you really love the clown gobies, why not try another down the line? Fred's jumping sounds like it was freak accident + badbadbad timing.

Hope the author events were fun! I'm really hoping to go to a writing conference this year.

jaimie, thanks! i'm thinking of a purple firefish.

i might buy one today. i don't know. i'll look after

revising. :)

writing conferences are great! if you can get in with

an editor or agent pages read/meeting, it's worth the $.

assuming you're ready with a novel. :) but if not, they

are very inspiring. just don't get dragged down if anyone

is debbie downer or if they are like NO ADVERBS, NO PROLOGUES

nonsense. :)

Only drawback to FF is that I've read that they tend to not like small cubes  (just posted that in my thread too lol). I know I read somewhere on here about someone who had one that was really skittish/jumpy in a cube (I want to say Gena? Can't remember though!), but fine in a standard 10g. Then again, ymmv and yours could love it.

There's a conference in my area in July, but it falls over the weekend of my sister's birthday & she's turning 30 this year so she wants an "adventure" that the whole family must participate in . So...next year :( Which is probably for the best because I won't have the novel at all ready by then.

I'm tempted to go to WorldCon/Sasquan (not exactly a "writers" conference but whatev, SFF is my thing) since it's only 4hrs away from me this year...but what with Gamergate and Puppygate, ehhh. Nerd cliques make me very :furious:, though tbf I haven't run across much of that at the few cons I've been to in the area.

hello friends! after looking at the fishies at two

places, i returned to ASD and chose the purple firefish.

please met WILMA, in loving memory of FRED. :)

she's eating and hides a little, but otherwise has been

out and about a lot!

she definitely is more JUMPY, like jaime mentioned.

not sure what i can do about that, other than to be

super vigilant. but even transferring her from acclimation

bowl (which i had fully covered) to the tank with a net,

she jumped out and landed on a reciept on the kitchen counter

and i plopped her in from there. :o

we'll see how it goes.

I like Wilma- beautiful fish! How do you like your black sand? I really like that look

thank you! i love my black sand!

think i'll always prefer it. :)

Wilma is beautiful! I had a pff named Firefly. I had him/her about 4 years and I really liked him.

FOUR years! that is an amazing long time

to keep your fishie. <3

I didn't think they usually lived that long in aquariums either. He was definitely slowing down and looking aged his last 6 months. A varied diet I think is the key.

Ha. I almost got that same fish. I was just there yesterday. I'm glad it went to a good home.

Yes, I'm waiting for a Pink Streaked Wrasse and maybe some Eviota Gobies, but I'm also thinking of adding possibly a firefish. That is why I contemplated getting it. I was there around 12:30. I'm sure it was the same one I was looking at.

I've got a PSW in my 20g and red neon eviotas in qt--they're so cute! Can't go wrong with any of the choices you mentioned; all small(sih), peaceful, and good-looking :)

Selling like hotcakes  Wilma is gorgeous. She'll probably mellow out as she gets settled. My old helfrichi had a dedicated hidey hole and always went there when he got spooked--never up toward the surface. Did you keep the lid on your 8g? Can't even remember what the CAD 8g lids look like...just a plate of glass like the old IM Nuvo 8g?

Nice pick up, love the colors these fish have. I had a red one for over a year, he passed about 2 months ago but he was an awesome addition to my tank. He would hide most of the day but was very active in the evening hours. Got along great with my tanaka's wrasse. Very cool fish imo. Nice addition!

I stopped by asd on Saturday, I was shocked to see the sps colony tank broke down and turned into a frag tank. Will said he needed more room and people don't want to buy colonys, they want frags :(. It was a bad ass tank. I will miss it.

But yeah, I was looking at alot of there pieces and most of the sps looked bleached out and almost looked as though they just went through a mini crash on most of the side tanks. The middle frag tubs looked awesome as usual and I seen a basket full of awesome rfa, your fav. I browsed the fish area but always seemed sketch to buy fish from there cause I never see treatment tanks and or quarintine tanks like aw, plus they are known for corals not fish. I'm not docking there store cause I love asd, just sharing my thoughts.

Latter that night I found myself browsing the livesale, :), I picked up 5 new pieces. 4 amazing Shrooms and a frag of doomsday. All will be going into the new tank! Pick up tomorrow evening.

So, when you getting a bigger tank?
