welcome back and love the new yuma! I had one, it was doing great and then one day, it just started declining. Ended up with a gaping mouth and hole right through the center into the rock. Really weird. Then I read that yumas are tougher than floridas. But I LOVE the yumas so I think I'm going to try another in a few months.

thanks for the welcome back, stella!

yes, that's what happened to me. my purple yuma

was eating and everything. but i wanted to try the yuma

before i'm willing to try acans or blastos again. or favias.

so i bought a yuma a month or more back.

i was a bit leery, as i had one yuma just up and

melt on me (a gorgeous purple one), but thought i'd

try again. this one is thriving, and two inches across

at least when it opens up. i have to keep nudging it

away from my orange RFA, which is skulking all over. ha!

it's the only RFA i have in the sand and on the glass.

stinker.

Nice Yuma. I have had inconsistent luck with Yumas as well. It's one of those coral that I cannot keep since I've had several die on me. I've had beautiful pinks and purples just melt away for no reason. The only ones I could keep are the orange ones, so hopefully you have the same luck as me. Looks like wild caught Yumas are extremely delicate. Look for tank raised ones if you can. I find Florida Rics much easier in my opinion.

Also, not sure what happened to your Acans and Favias, but I find that they are very hardy as long as you feed them and leave them alone. Good luck.

i splurged on two new mushies! i can't resist

them! and the two originals i had bought for my 3g

that are pretty lackluster are getting TOO big for my

tank. oy!!

i ordered from Unique Corals for the first time. it

came packaged very well, and i was concerened

for the blue bubbly mushie and got a reply asap

from them. it's since settled down. i got two rhodactis:

a purple peony and a st. thomas blue.

was hard to get a good foto... here they are a few

hours in the tank. Big Red is near and coming off of

its frag again. silly thing. and in the right corner, you

can see my discoma (?) that had leaped off from its plug.

now in the sand. surviving, but not thriving.

thanks DOC! i'm hoping this orange one

does okay. like you, i experienced inexplicable melt

down with my one purple yuma too. it was so pretty.

as for the canas and favias, they receded. like my lobo.

i think either i've not got enough calcium (even though i

do weekly water changes with high quality coral water from ASD)

or i don't keep my stability in tank. gods knows the last

time i tested for anything. :o ha!

I love your new mushrooms .

Sad for naked duster but hey...bright side, that opens up some room for you to move things around. Nice to see you posting again...you've been missed!

10 months FTS. er. it's looking a little crowded?

HA!

the peach RFA is roaming on the center part

of the dirt, and i'm constantly moving stuff away

from it. otherwise, lobo is not doing so hot. super

saiyans lost their color after dealing with grass algae

on its plug while i was in NYC.

that newest yuma is BIG. it keep spreading bigger.

i swear it's at least 2.5 inches when it stretches.

i think it's the reason the peach RFA keeps moving.

it looks like a mushie yard sale. lol

Oooh love the new mushies, Cindy!

thanks, JAIME! i really love them too! i hope

they do okay in the mushies yard sale tank.

LOL

it's true. but then i went out and bought like

4 mushies. not sure if that has helped anything. :)

had an amazing trip to SF for a major

librarian conference. signed books, was on a panel.

all very successful! but am exhausted! also,

was there during PRIDE--amazing! but the crowds!!

i made sure i cleaned the tank BEFORE i left the trip

this time. and it fared A LOT better than after my NYC trip.

also, my yuma is getting HUGE. it must be near 3 inches

across. very pretty. even cooler? it came on a frag with two

little baby yumas on it! they are currently maybe 1/4 inch

each and white with green bubbles.

Looking very nice. A bit jelly of that bubbly shroom. My yumas smothered a few of my high end shrooms. I am amazed at how fast the yumas grow.

sancho, really? i had no idea they were that

aggressive. yikes! it certainly is *stretching*.

Awesome.

thanks, D! gonna check out your build thread. :)

I didnt know that either till a couple weeks ago. My bright orange Yuma stretched out and completely smothered one of my acans. It wrapped it's body around it and I lost most of the heads. Had to move the remaining heads to my other tank. My cheap purple and green Yuma multiply so fast they like to set up right next to anything I have spent more than $50 on.

here are my baby yumas! i think there are THREE of them.

i only saw the two white ones. they started out teeny and clear.

now they have distinct neon green bumps. i ONLY just noticed

today the OTHER baby yuma, which is deep purple in color

with neon bumps. they are all about 1/4 inch big and growing fast!

i do not know if they are all baby yumas of the monster MAMA yuma!

(would think so, but two different color babies? not sure how it works.)

I love those baby yumas

I had the same problem with my first yuma - it melted within a week. You are inspiring me to try again :)

Congrats on your success with the book!

the purple peony rhodactis i got from unique corals is doing

really well! so are the three florida rics from ASD--

though i had hoped they'd be more blue. alas, they

are mostly neon green.

so busy but NOT writing. alas. comic con this weekend.

have two book panels i'll be on.

thanks SANCHO. i go as "pro" and for free cause

i write fantasy novels. :D

but yes, i've got some author friends and readers who

are already there.

i'm not a fan of comic con because it is seriously really

crowded. you have to get into a line to get into a line. ha!

been very happy with my unique coral shrooms. the other one

is weird though, giant bubbles, not very blue but pale. maybe

it's not happy.

Great tank Cindy, I love little shroomish tanks, sorry I missed this one.

Those Yumas are mean, I also have an Acan that lost 3 heads to a little yellow one I have and then after I moved it the little thing attacked a bubble tip anemone and I had to save it. :) It was sucked under some rocks but has re-appeared behind the anemone, probably planning another attack. :D

The Yumas are very prolific in my tank. The Floridas, I have never had any luck with. I never bought my green/purple Yumas they were baby hitch hickers on some live rock and now the cover about 90 percent of the rock in my tank. Its strange the Yumas I paid good money for have not made any babies. I hate to do it but I have to thin down the Yumas as they are killing stuff I paid good money for. I think it is time for both of us to get a bigger tank. I am liking the 12 long or possibly the 20 long. The new stand I made for the 8 will accommodate a new bigger tank.....dont tell my wife ;)
