72........ lol

Yeah, let's not get into that.

78 is what most (I assume) reefers set their temperature at as well.

I am so ignorant when it comes to "my build" thread or posting update pictures.

But I will make an exception just for you.

It's early morning (4:30 am) but I'll definitely take some pictures later today before water change.

Both were kinda pissed. I am guessing driving for hours in freezing temperature didn't help.

But BJ's and Trader Joe's were priority on the to do list. Lol

By the way..... did you find your goby?

I think I missed that post/update.

please link me to your thread with fotos when

you do update! :) and i am going to look for the gbg

when i next clean tank--likely tomorrow. i hope!

today is very busy with lunar new year festival at our

chinese school.

Right...... isn't it a year of the goat? Some say sheep or ram as well. I guess it depends where you are from.

Hope you will have some fun 恭禧发财.

I am sure your goby is hiding somewhere. Don't worry to much about it.

Ohhh, no build thread but here are few pics of new coral addition:

and my feather duster (there is another baby worm but it is hard to get a shot as it is behind large coral colony)

WOW! that is gorgeous! thanks for sharing!

and yes, it is the year of the sheep or goat or

the westernized ram. :)

i will consider it fish karma with the gbg.

well, friends, i am again paying for my impulse

buys and hubris. i have been feeding the tank even

MORE phyto feast daily for my bigger and beautiful

duster worm. and also feeding some oyster feast.

it's been out quite a lot, and looking like it's doing well.

today, after a day of revising, i prepped to do a major cleaning

(they have been major as phyto feast doses have led to

extra algae) and i couldn't understand what i saw--a giant

plume of feathers in my biggest flower nem's mouth.

i thought for a second, oh my naked worm has finally given

up his ghost. because as naked as he is, i pretty much

thought if he shed is crown, he's shit out of luck.

but no. it was WAY too big a plume. my newest duster had

cast off its crown. *CRIES* why? why? i KNEW better to get

another one but i totally did and now i've got another sick/and or

dying duster. :tears:

i know he might grow another, but honestly, at this point, i'm

not hopeful.

i also looked in the back of the tank and no gbg.

if he's in the rocks, i haven't looked hard there to find him.

my one nem that moves (that i had gouge off a live rock

when i decided to thin the landscape) had moved to back of

tank, thankfully reemerged, and is now on the glass of the tank.

i hope he's okay.

naked duster appears to be doing the same.

so that didn't last long for my beautiful duster or my gbg,

it seems. tempted twice, but not a third time. no.

wandering nem's foot (bottom) is all ballooned up too.

not looking too good. i found it off the glass and on top

of the receded acans, so moved it onto a rock area, but

it hasn't stuck on yet. *sighs*

what a Disasterous Monday.

god........ what happened? ?????????

Not sure what could cause such a quick chain reaction......

My only guess is to link this horrible avalanche to disappearance of your goby.

If he perished (I hope that's not the case) for some strange reason. It could have spike ammonia levels and cause small but dangerous cycle.

In tank this small, it could be quite devastating. I am really sorry you had to go thru this. I know you care a lot for every single living thing in your nano reef. Not sure what to tell you but perhaps less feeding for now and some serious water change.

Keep us posted. You will bounce back in no time.

thanks maniu, john, and greg.

i wish i could blame it on the gbg possible death

(actually, i am hoping he's still somewhere in there,

and honestly, i've lost a rainfordi too with little effect)

but maybe my tank is just too small with not enough food

for the really big duster worm? the one that's nake was

smaller. so i've tried, i won't try again. poor dusters. :(

the small one is two months in my tank and alive

and naked and kicking. i don't even know what.

as for the giant duster worm--i THINK it's in its tube,

but who knows? i'll just have to leave it be and hope

for the best.

flower nem that's on the move is still on the move.

i've had to move shrooms out of its way lest it sting them.

thanks for the good thoughts. :) other than the crown being

cast off and the missing gbg, and roaming flower nem, er,

things aren't so bad. :lol::blink:

Ahh!! Oh no... I hope everything gets back on track for you. Gotta be careful with those impulse buys...

i know. i won't buy any more dusters but

i can't guarantee i won't do more impulse buys.

haha!! aiiiiiiiii!!!

oh no...you know what would be a good way to cheer things up?? a new FTS! i am sure all your other corals are looking great =). stay positive!

 thanks! in happier news, my pink show piece

lobo is doing GREAT! *knocks on wood* gets all puffy

like a marshmallow at night.

Ahh, the aches and pains of reef keeping.

It's really easy to get caught up in the excitement of finding something unusual and special...and we've all been there.

Might be prudent to let things settle out for a while before contemplating any further acquistions.

Yep, don't set yourself for another let down. At least for a while. Lol

Once things stabilize, your extinguished quench will take over. ;)

And your vision will reshape nicely.

I am sure of it.

Roaches..........? Not all of them.

Some are actually super pretty and quite expensive.

thanks maniu! and please don't misunderstand me.

i LOVE mushrooms and i think they are so varied and beatiful.

i used the "roach" reference in that they are so hard to kill.

and trust me, ASD has a few mushrooms right now that are $200

per shroom. :o i've been admiring them but no way i can

drop that on just one mushroom, even if they actually likely

to survive.

i bought a red mushroom and will be picking it up this week.

there was a pink polkadot one and i asked and it sold.

thank goodness. i'm so greedy.

And when time comes, try Eviota gobies. There are at least 5 or so variants of this specie. All are super cute, easy to care for and they are not chronic jumpers like most gobies. Diet is simple and bioload minimal. My pair feeds on pods of all sorts. And till I introduced Springeri Damsel, they were rarely fed processed fish food. It is just not necessary. Good thing about Eviotas is that they can be kept in pairs or small groups (as long as they are introduced in the same time).

But that's something you will have to decide on your own. But as far as fish for nano/pico tank is concern. It is hard to find better suited candidates.

No, no..... I didn't mean to defend shrooms. They can be pesky and plain. But like you have noticed. There are kings and queens in the family that are ridiculously pricey. Those poses incredible texture and coloration. Not sure if those are also bomb proof. But generally, shrooms are probably least challenging of all corals.

i have two shrooms that are my first and

they are both VERY plain. they are taking up

space in the tank--and maybe one day i'll

just freebie give them away locally. but

they have survived much of my abuse, so not yet.

ha!

i just looked up eviota gobies. so darling!

have never seen them in a LFS.

Same here.

There are some shrooms in my tank (some fuzzy kinds of various colors) but I couldn't care less about them. Quite frankly, I neglected them with a passion. Toss them around and out of plain view. With minimum light in "no coral land" they survived and doing better then ever. Multiplying in somewhat slow rate. But still.

Just can't kill them if I try.

As to Eviota gobies. Yeah, they are kinda hard to find. Reason being, those gobies were just recently introduced to aquarium reefs. I mean, in broader scale. I am planning on getting few more pairs for my new, pest tank.

Sorry to hear about the recent tank woes, Cindy :flower: saltwater tests your patience/determination like no other.

Uniquecorals has had multiple variants of eviotas in the past, & they have cheaper shipping for CA residents. Haven't seen them in a few months, but when they did I think they had 3 colors.

Yes, there are several color variants. Orange/red is most common though.

They grow to about 1.5 inch adult size. There are about 80 known species. But I am sure there are many more to be discover/classified.

Fun facts: Eviota gobies are known for shortest lifespan. Not the most popular ones sold in the aquatic trade but ........ there is one that its entire life cycle spreads in around 8 weeks. Yes, its life is that short.
