Still, a little break to recharge your batteries couldn't hurt.

Seems like you are under a bit of a pressure lately.

Everything is looking great. And I mean everything.

worm says an envious HI! haha

thank you, maniu!

i cannot complain too much--

i'm doing what i love! :)

Happy 6 months to your tank!

And your weird little worm buddy is something you can't part with!! haha

How are your calcium levels? Maybe you need to start dosing to get more growth?

i don't dose at all! and i've talked

to owner of ASD and someone else that

works there, and they agree with such a small

tank and consistent weekly water changes with

their expensive coral water, i shouldn't dose.

it all just gets iffy with so little water in the tank.

and honestly, i'm okay with just letting things be

as long as they live. haha! i'm lazy!

no forseeable resting for, er, some years i think.

haha!

i will get a break early april (maybe)

and over christmas. but honestly, beats a 9-5

for me any day. :)

"their expensive coral water"

 You need to get an RODI unit and mix your own  I'm wary of dosing too, but I think with my new clammy it's only a matter of time.

Tank is looking great, Cindy! That lobo is gorgeous. And congrats on the extension  no rest for the wicked.

Glad your nekkid worm is still wiggling. Did I miss that you got a second one? Have you looked at the "mini" scolys from Australia? I got one from Cherry Corals in my 10g and they're darling, It seemed like a ton of vendors got them in during the fall/winter, but most are gone. I'm hoping another shipment shows up so I can get one for the 20.

i am WAY too lazy, jaime. i'd rather pay the $2 a week

to get my gallon of water and window shop at ASD. haha!!

my naked worm split in two! it had a "broken" tail for

the longest, time, and finally the thing broke off and

wiggled itself into the plastic tube. i was watching last

night and the tail portion *was* still quite lively, so i'm

glad i didn't throw it away.

i have NOT seen the mini scolys! wah! missed out

on that. i mainly just buy local so it's what my local

shops carry.

do you have a foto of it on your thread? i want to see!

But what about when you get that second, bigger tank? ;)

Ahh, so that's where the "second half" came from . It's pretty awesome that it/they are still alive through the drama.

I know Cherry Corals had a huge shipment in over the summer, and LiveAquaria had some too. I think one of the reef mags had an article on them when the craze showed up. Umm, I don't think I've got a great pic of it, but I'll take one. It looks like a single, large head of an acan.

i'm in love with a scoly i see at ASD. but the worm

is taking up prime real estate. haha! i don't particularly

like the bam bams (i'm not into zoas or palys much, it seems?

maybe haven't bought the right one?) and also i have some green

mushrooms that are plain too. but as of now, not doing anything

major due to revisions. ha!

What color is the scoly?

I think you would love palythoas more than zoanthids. They will actually eat for you and the polyps are much bigger. And they are hardier.

I dose B-Ionic 2 part calcium and alkalinity in my little 8g. It really does make a difference for zoanthids/palys especially. But it sounds like (and looks like from the latest FTS) you can get away with just water changes if you don't keep that species. Keep an eye on the lobo to make sure the flesh doesn't start receding. If it does, than you know for sure you need to start dosing.

Yay 6 month party, with a little wormy shake shake. :)

haha! thanks kat, i keep looking at the pallid

tail in the tube. i think it's still a little alive. though

i have no idea how. it is just a lump of worm arse.

i do have some blue agaves. they went from

two heads to six, and have stopped growing for

now, which is fine. i don't feed them, nope. both the

teeny round lobo and the big rainbow one seem

to be doing well. the latter recedes (gets spikey on top) but

then expands again, and no recession at the bottom. so

that's good.

yeah, given that my favia and acans all croaked

it, i'm hoping i have better luck with the lobo.

the scoly is blue and neon green!! :) no room and

also way too expensive currently. sure someone will

grab it before i can have a scoly--but that's okay.

it's all about coral karma. ha!

Link to comment

That scoly is awesome.

I am also plesently surprised that tiny clone is still kicking.

While reading on the subject, I found out that most cases of splitting or tube loss didn't end so well.

As for dosing...... with frequent water changes and top off, you might not need it. However, it wouldn't hurt. There are few products made just for nano tanks. Those are also easy to use. Purple Up is also decent product that you could try.

Coral karma...love it .

Scolys need a lot of room too. Save it for the tank upgrade ;).

friends, i am a terrible terrible person!

i did two impulse buys yesterday at ASD

when i had promised myself i was happy the way

the tank was and i wouldn't stress myself or other

critters and fish out any longer.

but nay. i was so excited to see three of these

(finally!) and bought the largest one. he was hanging

out in the sand in the front at night, and today, he

is hiding toward the back near the rocks. i hope he does

okay. :o

gbg.jpg

THEN, i saw these rocks with zoas on them and beautiful

feather dusters embedded into the rocks. ASD gave me a

good price and i could NOT resist. AHHHHHH! i've still got

a naked duster worm and i buy another duster worm!!

the guy in the shop told me the zoas were eagle eyes?

but c'mon, LOOK at this rock. my reasoning was: well, if

the duster worm is already IN a rock, it must be settled and

happy?

dusterzoas.jpg

the tank is murky as i just dosed with phyto feast concentrate.

i did a MAJOR rearranging, as i had wanted to, but it was totally

unplanned yesterday when i brought the big duster rock home.

you know how those unplanned rescaping always goes.

i dropped stuff on stuff, one sexy shrimp, in my carelessness,

even plopped (thank goodness) onto the edge of the kitchen sink.

i managed to save it somehow. and i got rid of a large live rock in the

tank--and had to force (or coax strongly) one of the rock flower nems

off of it. :o

i don't even know what. but everything seems to be

alive. i stirred up the sandbed quite a lot and hope

it doesn't come back to bite me in the butt.

Yay...you found a GBG!!!!! The new duster is so pretty too. So this large rock you removed...how big was it? I'd really keep an eye on things because that rock, depending on how big, could have held a lot of bacteria for your biological filtration!!!!!!

Congrats on the new additions. It's so hard to resist pretty things :).

Awww, a new GBG! He's so cute  The zoas are radioactive dragon eyes. They are some of my favorite "cheap" zoas. I've got a small colony in my 4g, but they don't spread much because they're surrounded by the candy apple zoas.

Maybe your old worms and worm parts will be encouraged by the presence of the new one? Who knows but the new one is pretty, sure :)

Make sure your like is tight fitting and don't leave it off too long. Just last night I picked my GBG up off the desk when I had the lid off for maybe 15 minutes :o

it is really hard to resist pretty things.

aiiiii! the rock is pretty big. well, for my tank.

i'd say it's a good 5-6 inches long? and i think

it came straight from indonesian sea? so aiiii.

there are a lot of things on it too. i mean, i didn't

dip. haha! so we'll see what happens. oh shit!

i don't even know what i'm thinking. i'm not supposed

to have even ONE duster in my tank and now i have

two. but my other one seems to be doing okay, naked

and all. :rolleyes::blink:

u always pick such nice corals!!

thank you, ninja! you do too!!

it's so hard cause ASD is local. hahaha! so bad.

and i go in EVERY week to see get water. terrible tempting

combo.

john, did you save the gbg then?

my lid is fine--but i do leave it off sometimes

for cleanings. and the gbg is always on the sandbed--

crazy that yours leapt out!

i will be extra careful! i hope the little dude does okay.

and thanks for the heads up on the zoas type. i didn't

think they were rare--but they are quite pretty! my bam bams

aren't doing well. i thought zoas were easy (well, the cheap

ones), but maybe not!

Link to comment

here's a better shot of the new rock with

most of the dragon eyes (per teeny/john) open! :)

dusterzoas2.jpg

and an impromptu 25 weeks FTS, thanks to the impulse buys.

i have still kept my bam bams (not doing well) and the favia (neon

green center but contiunally receding) and my acans in the very

front. dipped 2x but then i gave up. ha!

25weeksfts2.jpg

Nice pick ups, looking good and the new fish looks pretty cool as well.

thanks, D! are you making good progress on your build?

Houdini (my GBG) seemed fine when I put him back in. He was still wet on the desk and he swam around some after I put him back in. But I haven't seen him yet today and haven't had a chance to go looking. Hopefully he's just hiding...

I have more trouble with zoas than any other coral that I've ever kept. Usually with the "beginner" ones, too. Go figure :)

Did you finish your final edits? Hope it turns out great!

my edits aren't due till march 1! so i actually went

out on a social thing today and met up with local writers

for brunch. :) thanks for asking!

and yeah, the bam bams were great, then started acting

weird when i began dosing with phyto and also when i got

the mini tide lights on. so not sure what's going on. it also

was dealing with red hair algae issues. we'll see.

oh, i misread. it was a large rock. but i think my main

filtration is my chemipure elite. ha! it was a bottom rock

without much pores or anything, just a solid slab. so i don't

think it did much filtrating. still, i stirred up a lot of stuff

yesterday and also removed the large rock and then put in

a new rock that has a bunch of sea stuff on it.

we'll see what happens.

cindy, always playing the coral roulette

Love the new additions, Cindy  I love green things so the radioactive dragon eyes have been on my "to get" list at some point. The coloration on that red duster is awesome!

Last night I had a dream I had your tank and the sexies kept hopping out! They were walking up the walls! I would get them back in the tank and they would hop right out again! Eep!!
