Do you test alkalinity in your salt mix or tank water? Are you using petco nsw?

i buy high quality saltwater for corals from

the LCS. i have been for this entire time, and don't

believe it's the water. i don't often test for anything enough

unless something goes wrong. :o

Me too :) i ordered most corals from online trusty dealer and never test for anything except nitrate and salinity occasionally, no dosing either although i do dose vitamin C every now and then. I believe when you're obsessed with tests and equipment, you're more prone to failure because you keep trying to adjust params. I believe stable is key and I like to keep it simple, now if you are a tank full of SPS corals then that may be a different story.

friends, if my dendro is "flamboyant" as teenyreef says

(was it teeny that said that? ha!) then my balano would

be "magnificent".

here she is in all her glory after midnight last night.

i had to turn on the kitchen light to take a foto. :D

she looks like a pepperment candy!

and here she is this morning.

GENA, i think she's definitely got coral and reds and maybe hints

of pink in her swirly design.

Don't really understand how u can have a reef tank with all the different inhabitants and have no idea of one of the most important levels..alkalinity.You say keep it symple but you dose vitamin C and Cindy doses iodine? In such a small system you shouldn't dose anything you dont test for well any size system I would say....just my 2 cents I was just trying to help figure out why you lost the fish before you lost more.

yeah i talked to LCS guys and they both

said not to dose and stick with water changes.

esp since my tank is so small. if i lose ycg, that's it

with me and fishies for a while.

they say shrimps are sensitive but my sexy

shrimps have lived through all sorts of noob

mistakes and disasters. :o

I don't disagree with that, knowing your params is good. My tank has been thriving for almost a year, that's all I know. is there a test for vitamin C? I would if there is, but I don't believe it does any harm for only a few drops once a month, if anything I see everything is doing great in my tank, SPS including acros color up quickly as soon as I put them in my tank. Any unhealthy frags I put in my tank recovered quickly, that tell me one thing, keep doing what im doing :)

MONDAY UPDATE!

i did another 1.5g water change.

the ycg seems to be all right. he isn't

stress breathing like the day i found my

dead blenny. :( i'm not sure if he's back to

his chipper self, but maybe i'm projecting.

and here's a foto of my new florida "red mouthed"

ric! though it looks more pink, i think? the ric

is green with hints of pink/lavendar and has two

pink mouths. :) you can see the healing acans (i hope)

behind it, and alas, the pissy yuma ric below.

Wish I had something like ASD near me. Or maybe, on second, thought, it's better that I don't. There's never anything you'd want to buy in any LFS near me, which means I have to lots of research before paying the money for shipping from anything online. If my LFS had corals like ASD I'd be broke in a month :)

it is definitely a two edged sword. i feel very fortunate

to have them local, yet, my cc has seen too much use. ha!

they had a few new flower nems in the latest sale, too.

man, the news has just been so rough and

bad. have to take the small pleasures in life,

which is, of course, our tanks.

the tank is doing okay. i did a small water change

today and the hammer fell on top of a mushroom,

who spit its guts out. and now the hammer has four inch

stingers out--the longest i've seen so far.

here's another foto of my "red" mouthed ric.

the ycg seems okay? eating, but still more timid

than before (to me). please send good vibes for

ycg!

not sure what to do with the yuma. it hasn't opened

for near two weeks.

ah crap! i've seen various snails

go in that corner and get "stuck" near the

flower nem, and now, i see that the ultra

nem is EATING the cerith snail.

what should i do? do i want to pull it out?

i am afraid of damaging the nem! will it be

stupid enough to try and eat the shell?

halp!

i'm okay losing the snail. i just worry

the nem will be dumb enough to eat the

shell. i don't think so. aiiiiii

OH WELL NEVERMIND.

the flower nem has spat out an empty shell

and is happily digesting.
