cindyp
more adventures in tanking! i picked up my rainbow lobo today from ASD sale as well as my candy canes that i had been miscalling "trumpet coral"? don't even know. ha! the lobo is teeny, one inch big or so. and looks like an acan. i had to ask if it was actually a lobo. it is a lot pinker than the photograph will show. here's ASD's gorgeous foto of teeny lobo: http://s42.photobucket.com/user/aquasd/media/1-16-13%20Update/12-28-14%20Sale/SweetAussieRainbowLobo-RETAILPRICE-50-SALEPRICE-25_zpsb3fda6fa.jpg.html i was also worried about my feather duster. i had been moving it around, as you recall, and somehow it had wedged it's tail end into a rock, so i didn't shift it anymore, figuring that's where it wanted to be. this morning, i noticed the feathers hadn't been extended for hours. i got worried. i came home--still no feathers. so i felt the tube--EMPTY. so i thought, well, dead worm. so i tried to pull out the empty tube that had wedged its end in the rock. and i had to work at it. using chopsticks, the tube broke and feathers came spilling out at the bottom. i was so confused. it looks like the worm had moved backwards and wedged itself into the rockwork and sand. it is there now, as you see in foto, with its feathers poking out. i hope it does okay. i think it's hidden well in the sand and bottom of rock. owenj
I think trumpets/candy canes are synonymous trade names for the same thing. I've heard them called both. Hope your duster works out in its new spot! Link to comment

Hope your duster works out in its new spot! thanks jaime! it is without a tube now, so unprotected. but there are no predators i don't believe in the tank, and he's hidden pretty well in rock work. hope he does okay. do people target feed their candy canes?? Dramad1
Sweet pick up, I've been eyeing a few of asd's frag packs - the acro pack and the milli pack. I really want the milli pack. Kinda been debating it though as I've talked to a few locals that went in to pick up there purchases and they couldn't find them. Still Will always has amazing pieces. Love the loos he has, always an assortment of colors. If you like them you should check out some of the bowerbankis he has, a few different color morphs that I haven't seen before and all at a fair price, especially if your in there all the time Link to comment
gena
That lobo is sooooo pretty . Nice purchase!!!!! Yeah, candy canes or trumpet coral, same thing . I sometimes feed mine but they don't need it. Feeding tentacles come out big time at lights out. What color do you have? I hope your feather duster will be ok . I'm not sure if they need their tube or not? Link to comment
kimberbee
I spot feed my trumpet sometimes. It's not always easy to do unless the feeder tentacles are out. Link to comment

That lobo is sooooo pretty . Nice purchase!!!!! Yeah, candy canes or trumpet coral, same thing . I sometimes feed mine but they don't need it. Feeding tentacles come out big time at lights out. What color do you have? I hope your feather duster will be ok . I'm not sure if they need their tube or not? thanks gena! yeah, i don't know if the worm can survive without its casing. from what i've read, it's a NO. but i always assumed it was due to predators? but it might be they just need that protection. i feel bad, but it was clear that it had abandoned the tube for the rockwork. i saw it move in and out of the rock just now. the thing is thicker than my pinky! monstrous and beautiful! I spot feed my trumpet sometimes. It's not always easy to do unless the feeder tentacles are out. thanks kimber!! quick googling gave this: "Sometimes Sabellastarte spp. leave their tube. This exposes the worm, making it vulnerable to predators. In general it is best not to try to re-insert the worm into its tube. One is more likely to injure it this way, and it is likely that it left the tube for a good reason. Usually they move this way to a better position, in a stronger current. The worm can build a new transparent tube in a matter of hours, and it will coat the tube with sand and detritus over a matter of a few days." please send good vibes for my naked worm. *giggles* sorry. cindyp
i stayed up late reading more about the feather duster. i think the chances are slim mine will survive. i think i might have stressed it too much with positioning and moving. but almost commenter says their warm is dead within 2 days of leaving its tube. we'll see. it's just sticking out of the rocks for now. Pinner Reef
Cindy FWIW, in my fist tank, a feather duster jumped it's tube then shrank away into the rockwork. When I went to break down the tank I found it under all my rockwork in a newly grown tube perfectly fine. Hope yours pulls thru as well. Link to comment

cindyp
this morning, the naked feather duster had disappeared. i saw it had wiggled through the live rock and was lying at the very back of the tank. i assumed it was DED and was ready to get the chopsticks to fish him out, but then i saw him wiggling. so he's alive back there. can't imagine it's a good feeding area though. basically limited flow since the tank is so little and he's behind all the rocks.
