Oh man guys I came home and my clowns are battling it out to the death.. I have to leave my house in 5 mins for the evening, I went to feed my clowns and noticed the boys fins are all messedup and the girl was "spasming" at him and going after him and nipping big time :(

I ran out bought a in-tank breeding box and even the smallest one was too big but I tried to make it work and I couldn't catch them at all they're SO fast and kept going underneath the rock.. impossible. Then they'd both get under the rock and begin fighting again.. ugh.

So upset now I really hope they sort it out and are okay when I come back home.. I have to run out the door now :(

If the one with the "growth" on his fin is the smaller one then it sounds like that was a bite that is trying to heal. Hopefully they will be ok. Ocellaris clowns aren't usually that aggressive.

Damn man, you're having problem after problem huh ? It could be having a pair of clown in such close quartets ones getting aggressive, idk. I'd get rid of the meaner one or else your end up losing the messed up one.

As for the rocks, like Ninja said use saltwater or distilled. Make things easier on yourself l.

I have to get my onyx clown out of my 12 gallons this weekend. The snowflake been brutal on him. I had the snowflake in a breeder box for a few days, but it only helped a little. 2 days after snowflake was released, he went to town on the onyx again. So now I have to somehow catch the onyx and put him back into the spec. And at the same time, take the blue damsel out of the spec and back into the 12 gallon.

I wonder why your pair suddenly turned on each other. I thought they were buddies?

for the euphlia can you explain a little Bette. Did a branches flesh come of or just like one or two tentacles. Sorry about the clowns they could be sorting out dominance

But maybe not xD

Hope your clowns sort things out with out any damage.

I finally got sick of getting rid of my aiptasia so got a peppermint shrimp, he's acclimating right now but is kind of small, hopefully he's hungry and doesn't cause any trouble.

Day 104:

Here's a video of the clowns doing some weird stuff, didn't catch them nipping but at one point my larger clown goes to nip my smaller clown but doesn't make contact..

Here you can see where the one head just "came out" of it's skeleton.. the part that is left looks very loosely connected almost like a loose tooth in the socket/root of the gums??.. weird way to explain it lol

Here's where it ended up... ugh :(

10418438_10152556074010309_8786668015517

You can see his poor fins are somewhat shredded on the top :( This is the smaller clown, the bigger doesn't have any mangled fins..

Here's the bigger clown. You can see nice smooth fins - however, this is the clown with the what we believe is a benign ?

Now my frogspawn hasn't opened up - despite a nice WC yesterday. Checking params later but everything else in my tank is looking fine...

I've been thinking about it here for a bit and the ONE thing I've done in the past weeks before I noticed things starting to go down a bit - was adding the surface skimmer. Thought it was a good idea, however .. I don't have the hole in the false wall patched !! I'm thinking now, perhaps the skimmer (because my water evaps so fast) gets low and therefor water isn't going thru the entire filter process and instead going thru the bottom hole more rapid and skipping filtration entirely? Perhaps this is causing some issues....

Taking the skimmer out and will update as the week goes...

... Weird it looks like typical bonding behaviour but i thought they already established this. Also the little scar/ fin growth isn't called "a benign" it's described as benign so it described as harmless. Sorry for that when I was explaining it earlier.

Weird with the decline in the hammer, did u remove the little dropped head?

Can u tell is the dropped section of hammer attached to the rock or is it free moving, it is maybe possible ( don't know if it can do this) that it's lodged into a hole and could grow.

If it isn't attached take it outta the water and give it a sniff, if it smells like nothing really it should be fine but if it smells slightly rotten or fishy it's die and u will want to take it out immediately as it could rot and spread its flesh into a cloudy gunk all over your tank,.

So....

Frogspawn hasn't opened at all today. It's fully retracted within the skeleton...

However - All of my Acans are looking nice and plump. Ricordias looking nice and spread (Except my 1st ric, it's gotten tiny lately) and my zoa's beginning to grow/expand down the side of the frag plug and I can see slowly moving towards growing on the actual rock..

Hmm...

Watch for a poop coming up, ive had things shrink up and look rough, just to find out there constipated. Not sure if this is normal in euphillia, but it is in many other LPS

Day 106

Things have been a bit of a roller-coaster lately.. my hermit crabs have been munching lots of green stuff though which is good.. emerald crab hasn't been paying much attention to the bubble algae. Luckily bubble is just a nuisance and isn't technically "dangerous." Eventually I'll get around to peroxiding' the rocks.. but I think the hermits may even be nibbling on some of the smaller bubbles which is good...

What I believe is my boy clownfish. You can see on the top of his body/ fins he's got some nips from the larger (female I believe) clownfish. Poor guy. They've calmed down today thankfully..

Anybody have any thoughts / suggestions? I haven't changed my Purigen/ Chemipure in about 2 months since I first put it in (in place of the original stuff..)

I haven't changed or introduced anything in several weeks... I'm stumped. :(

Link to comment

Looking at the two photos look like I may have moved around the nozzles on both.. I'm moving them back now to how they appear in the photo from back in June 10th.. we'll see how it goes tomorrow. If I come home I'll turn off the 240 for 4 hours and see if it makes any impact..

Thanks alot of the suggestion my friend,

Maybe not enough light !???? Maybe to much idk that's weird whats ur ph like

Hmmm... I was thinking that, but if it was "starving" for light I thought it would be extending further to try and "reach" the light.. I haven't changed it though! Perhaps the opposite - too much light? But then I'd presumably see bleaching? Ph is around 8.0 as of today! :(

I woke up this morning and found the second head has fallen off my hammer coral :(

You can see on the skeleton that there is a featherduster it looks like.. but I don't see how this could have made the head come off completely? That featherduster had been there since I brought it home...

man that sucks!

near the end of that thread, it seems like the head can grow new skeleton??? but definitely check your flow.

:( Damn... looks like it could happen. I haven't been feeding mine.. I can only see the opening in the skeleton at night when they're closed up.. perhaps I should inject some mysis in there during the evening??

Stray voltage also a suggestion.. perhaps a grounding pole ($10, couldn't hurt to give it a try)

Then the discussion on "bailout" ... discarded them because they ended up swirling around no matter where I put them and landing in the acan's.. pretty sure one of my acan's is pretty badly hurt from the first head that fell but yesterday it looked like it was trying to heal.

Going to try feeding tonight..

You could get a little plastic cup and then get some dry ruck that's all crushed up and place the popes heads in that in a lower flow area to try getting it to attach.

If there was stray voltage you can so,entires feel it... Which is not good

What kind of water are you using?

I would do close to a 100% water change, but make sure you are using RO/DI water before mixing the salt.

Because the SPEC V is so small, I just use Petco sea water and it has been fine.

Also, are you moving the torches around a lot?

Also, you might be over feeding and have phosphate. Do you have a Phosphate test?

Well... clowns are back to beating the crap out of each other. My poor male clown isn't looking too good this evening.. :(

Frogspawn hasn't opened at all and hammer looks still as small...

Everything else super big and colorful ..
