Man, sucks to hear about the YCG, its a real bummer. Your coral pickups sound pretty sweet though and I am excited to see them! Also that custom tank sounds pretty amazing imo, if you do get it you HAVE to do a build a thread :P I would most definitely follow it.

Thanks Cswan! Yeah, really bummed out about the YCG. He was probably one of my favorites after his short time in my reef.

Very cute little guy, I kid you not he was only 2cm in length. We named him Kiwi .. sad he's gone so fast.

Oh man, hate to hear about that goby! Well, I guess it happens to everyone...

I wanted to take a 10 gallon and put a "Spec V style" overflow filtration with some acrylic. I'd say as long as you can silicone a bit of acrylic into a tank there's not really a need to pay 250$ or more for a custom tank.

Unless you just want it nice and pretty! ;)

Sorry to hear about the YCG...but your tank is looking very clean and beautiful.

Do you plan on removing your frags from the plugs, or just allowing them to grow over? I hate the plugs, and always reove the corals once they have acclimatized and them mount them directly on the rock work.

do you have pictures of the new acan colony you got? :)

Yeah, I'd love to see some too if you have them!

Sucks about the ycg. But I have some exciting news... I'm getting a tank... Maybe. My parents were at the lfs with me and noticed my staring into one of the tanks ( it was world oceans day lfs giving free hotdogs ) they asked me if I liked it and said I loved it. So they keep bringing it up and honk that I should get it.

Mom: it's not bad for 249$

Dad: mhm

Mom: would you make it look good like all the others in the store

Me: well that's the goal

Mom: well it's on sale we will maybe come back this week

Owner: there are only two left once gone I cannot offer that price anymore.

Me: (even more pressure to buy it ) <<< in my head

Its a CAD lights 18 gallon mini perfect size for me and only 250$ regular 370$

Here's a quick update for today Day 77:

Golden Ricordia Yuma :)

Here's the 12 Acan's I picked up. Thing is BEAUTIFUL in the water however I have to move it to a different spot in the tank. Might get this done tonight ..

Here's a quick shot of it during transport / bringing it home..not opened of-course:

Lastly, two shots of my baby YCG, Kiwi who was unfortunately hunted and killed by my Pistol shrimp only a few days in :(

Really upsetting and may he rest in peace.

Hopefully some can take from this and know that a YCG and a tiger pistol are probably not a good combination :(

This post shall be his memory. RIP little guy.

He looks kind of skinny I may be wrong but the ones I have seen are usually really plump like a clown fish shape.

Lol I plan on getting it and really want it. Lights my only concern. I'm pretty sure it can support some euphylia cuz that's what I want most but I've only seen two threads as evidence. And my lfs setup with some Acans but I can wait for a better light for sps I guess but lps is my focus

Your tank is looking so phenomenal kij. I really love that new acan  its beautiful, can't wait to see it in the tank. also I really really like that golden yuma  its looks so cool. Also great shots as usual :)

^^^ I plan to and yeah new tanks are the best ... In an excitement way and getting to follow the adventure. I am still wondering if anyone has experience with the light it comes with from my understanding I'll be fine with some lps and zoas etc just wondering if anyone is using the stock light. Sorry Kijho for hijacking your thread I'm just really excited... You understand I assume

Nice pick up man,no that certainly looks to be a acan !!! The fresh is retracted which I'm sure one could think it's maybe a favia. Be sure to take plenty of pictures of that beaut.

Your YCG is really making me want to get one.. Although I really want to get a few trimmas that no one ever has,the YCG are ao awesome !!! I'm sure I could probably be okay with 2 in my tank as well. There's plenty of hiding spaces, caves and perches.

As always, and over stressed: keep up the phenomenal work man. You and Ninja have the best Specs on this forum !!!

Thx for the kind words mate!! I love your 7G and pico reef, I've been watching them for the past bit!

However - My post above about the YCG - he only lived two days in my reef :(

I made the mistake and it's my fault, I really should have known better to put such a small fish in with my shrimp. I hadn't known he was so aggressive though.. :(

RIP Kiwi.

Was trying to zap a few Aiptasia and then this happened........

For your viewing pleasure ..

RIP Kiwi.

Drop in sometime and drop some words mane !!! Don't be shy hahahaha.

Yeah, that does suck. I didn't know they were aggressive !!! I've never heard of them doing that, honestly. Maybe he was hungry,or sensed he was possibly sick ? I think it's weird he got him like he did. Maybe he was already dead, and the shrimp just disposed of his corpse ?

Also, after seeing your video of your one clown being as defensive as he is,I think the clowns got to him. For being such a small tank and those 2 being the main fish there,( I could be wrong ) but I think they may have beat up on him.

I had a damsel that was down right the meanest thing I have ever seen. He'd pin my clown in the corner behind the skimmer and not let him come out. And that was in a 15 gallon which was plenty of room. Damn fish man...

Link to comment

Your clowns are as mean as mine. I have to battle with him every time I have to put my hand in the tank. I have gotten used to his bite, so he is now resorting to biting and sort of shaking, like a dog shaking its prey. Lol. He is a brat for sure!

Link to comment

He's never been aggressive before but I think they're becoming more territorial of "their home."

I don't think the clowns did the goby though.. the reason being is that when I discovered my Goby, I also found that nice 12 acan frag upside down in the corner of the tank. The Goby really liked to hide under that in his first day. So knowing that the rock was flipped over, I think my shrimp went out and hunted him down and flipped it to get to him...

When I woke up the yellow goby was being dragged in to the shrimp's cave :(

I really don't know who the murderer is in my tank but it makes me sad.

I know the shrimp has attacked and eaten one of my snails before as well...

I'm going to end up getting a small in-tank breeding box to hopefully quarantine my Clown's when needing to get deep in the tank.

Link to comment

Honestly,if I was you,I would just put the shrimp,2" of sand and some rubble rock in the " breeder box " and see if anything changes. And maybe make a lid or get a " breeder box " with a lid and see how that does. I know Marine Depot has a few different ones to choose from.

I was thinking that maybe if I ever wanted to keep one of those shrimp, due to my tank being bare bottom,I'd do something like that. Just so I could keep one, because I'm surely not going to go thru another cycle just to add sand to keep him happy and him so crazy and kill everything. Especially if I was to get a docile, slow moving innocent ycg lol.

Woke up to a calm tank. Clowns sleeping sideways near the top as usual, and the shrimp and orange spotted goby in the cave together.

Snails all over doing their magic. :)

Link to comment

Do your goby and shrimp still make caves or do they just improve their current caves. I'm worried my shrimp will make my tank into a bunch of little holes in the sand bed haha.
