Caught up. Acropower - amino acids are useful when you have a lot of mouths to feed. Even then I don't dose amino acids everyday.

I dosed daily with my 29 idr how much. But that thing was pristine clean so it could handle the daily dosing

So i joined the cheato reactor club. Got a small bit in there to get it started, curious to how fast it will grow. One thing im not a fan of is the short power cord of the light. Its literally a few inches after the strip lighting so its bugging me out that a power cord is so close to the tank. Literally covered it in electrical tape and tried to make a drip loop so nothing hits the extension cord plug. Found some cheap sps locally, trying to decide if i should pull the trigger.

Think we decided on a week in somewhere like fiji/tahiti/bora bora and then doing another week in Australia. Hopefully it all fits in budget because id love to hit the great barrier reef.

Slow day at work so ive been browsing through a ton of threads. I think i want my next tank to be a peninsula, its just something about them i love. I really wanted to do a reefer 250 or 350 but well see what happens, not like its happening any time soon anyway. I could go the budget route and do a 40 breeder i guess.

I'd highly recommend considering Vanuatu as a destination also. As someone who has been to Fiji and Vanuatu, Vanuatu was for more laid back and chilled. Fiji was quite commercialised when I was there about 10 years ago, friends having been there recently said it is even worse now. Fine if you are wanting to stay in a resort for a week but if you want to go out end explore you may be bombarded with people trying to sell you their wares. I also highly recommend the GBR, beautiful place. I'm trying to organise a trip back towards the end of next year if I can fit it in around building and moving into my new place.

DIY Chaeto reactor looks great also. I've been considering making my own but I don't have the room for it unless I DIY some new dosing containers...

So i ended up getting those frags from a local. Got some slimer, red dragon and a large green birds for like $30. Everything was going well, but now the birds stning and the red dragons not looking too hot. No reason for it, levels are all ok. I guess its whatever was ailing my system before i moved coming back because there is no explanation for the reason they are stning. The slimer seems to be doing ok, so lets see what happens with it. Fairly annoyed, and considering just a hard restart of the system, not sure how many more chances ill give the tank before i give up.

Its all good. I at least still have my GSP

Heh, yea. The fish also help keep the tank interesting, i wish i had a bigger tank so i could just focus on fish but a small 20g doesnt let that happen.

Slimer isn't doing well. Thinning flesh and tip down stn. Levels are all stable, nutrients are low but not undetectable, nothing has changed. There has to be something going on that is causing this. At this point I'm just going to let the tank sit as is till the day i can afford and find the motivation to upgrade and start fresh. My clam, fish and gorgs are all ok so ill just have to enjoy them.

Slimer stned same as the others, tip down from the corrallites. No pests, stable levels, low but detectable nutrients. Still don't get why they are crapping out. I've come to the decision to reboot the tank, i have rock that i had gotten awhile ago and made a decent minimal scape. I put it in a bucket of fresh salt water last night to start the cycle process. I'm going to pull the rock i have in the tank now and all the sand to start fresh. Ill probably let the new rock sit for a couple weeks and then when i decide to do the switch ill throw in some of Dr.Tims one and only bacteria to make sure i don't have a cycle with my fish in the tank. Plans are just to get a couple more gorgs, which have been doing fine, and then eventually maybe some LPS or softies. Really just trying to re-spark the love for the hobby after all the losses. I really did enjoy making the new scape, I've always loved that part of the tank build.

Good luck with the reboot, it does sound like you don't have much choice and starting over can be a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do the logistics of switching out the rock and sand.

Went and picked up a 30 gallon brute can yesterday, moved over anything alive with the old rock into the can and set up the light over it. Easy transfer so far, hoping nothing gets stressed from the move. Deep cleaned and drained the tank and put the new rock and sand in and started filling it. I need probably another 5 gallons before its full. I'm not in love with the scape now that its in the tank but it'll do as i have no choice at this point. I'm sure it will grow on me over time.

Tanks up and running, took longer than expected because the new sand was so dusty i had to do a full water change to get the water clear enough so my skimmer could handle the rest. Everything alive is still in the brute can, I'm sure they aren't happy though so i want to do the transfer as soon as possible. Threw in some of the dr.tims one and only bacteria and threw a cube of food in. Hoping another week or two and i should be clear to restock the tank.

Pulled out the old rock from the brute can after the transfer, did a serious inspection to check for pests or anything that would have a taste for sps. Couldn't see any flatworms but i did end up finding a ton of small keyhole limpets hiding in the rocks. I never once saw them on sps and i stalked my tank at night. Not sure if they even snack on sps flesh. Anyone know? They were small, tanish shells. Ill have to find some dried out ones and take some pictures for an ID.

For what it's worth, I have beige-colored limpets with somewhat patterned skin (completely beige foot, though) that hitchhiked in on my gulf live rocks the past two shipments. They're adorable, and they only eat algae from what I've observed. I've seen them grow up to an inch in length. Do your SPS tend to get bite/rasp marks?

My sps never had bite marks, flesh would thin and then stn from tip down. Symptoms were indicative of alk problems but i would test and things were always stable if not minor swings.

Tanks doing well; I have little time for it these days. Its going through its new tank ugly stages, a lot of diatoms from the fresh rock and sand. Overall happy with making the switch. I probably put everything in too soon, i had a small amount of detectable ammonia but some prime and more bottled bacteria helped knock it out. Fish, clams and gorgs seem to be doing ok.

Amazingly, some of the katrapora survived.... I had a small encrusted bit on the old rock i left to see what would happen. It was brown and turd like for ever, and had a small bit of stn. When i put the new rock in and restarted i cut it off the old scape and put it in the tank for the hell of it. Well today it has decent color and PE, cant believe it. Color in the photo is super saturated but its obvious that its healing and going in the right direction. Of course every time i post something like this i jinx myself so lets see what happens.

Excellent!  The Katropora is one tough acro, I have two big colonies and 2 big frags now due to trying to save it from my tank issues last year.  Every one survived while most other acros perished.   The little nub looks good, you'll have a colony in no time. :)

Lets see what happens. After everything I've gone through with the tank I'm not betting any money on it. It is extremely hardy though.
