Well. I came home to this awesome-niss.

Our good friend - ziareefer sent me an awesome care package. Thanks man. I had originally asked for Chaeto but he sent me all this.

Not really sure what it all is but im sure he'll tell me soon.

His packing was incredible. Everything was sealed in bags with heat seals. The box was insulated with styrofoam with a heat pack in it. He also added newspaper and packing peanuts. :D If it had been shipped via 1 day shipping vs the 3-4 day shipping I have no doubt in my mind everything would survive.

Thanks again man!

Pictures of the macros are too come. But trust me. This ish is phenomenal!

Right on, glad USPS priority got it there. they took all three days but i expected that considering how far it had to travel. So i knew that shipping is fine for macros but ive never shipped corals that way before. So i used this opportunity to see what would make it. Knowing full well that there would be a casualty. But i don't remember everything i threw in there, lol. Lets see i think there was a frag of xenia, anthelia, cloves, Purple Rim Monti (which surprisingly looks good considering) Being SPS, i thought for sure this would be a goner. Its bleached but start it low for a few days than move it up high to full light and good flow. On top of the cave rock would be a good spot. Those two little palys are awesome long skirt big green palys. As for Macros, i threw in some Gracilaria and another i forgot. Wheres the pic of those, how they looking?

I sent the box of macros and corals all Free. He just asked for some Cheato. So since i was shipping that, i figured i would test USPS Priority with some easier softy corals and see what would make it and what wouldn't. Don't think the Xenia made it though. That's a delicate shipper even on overnight shipping. In addition to the longer 2-3 day transit time, the additional error i made was including a heat pack. This time of the year when it's warmer like this, it's risky. It's better for them to be to cold rather than to warm. So maybe i'll have to do another test with the same pieces w/ out a heat pack.

Thanks. Yeah. That local guy is my local coral supply from now on. It was doing good till this morning. It kind of stopped pulsing. I'll keep an eye on it.

Haha. Zia explained it.

Mesh top worked. How I planned to hold it over the water didn't. So I need to think of something else or end up having an ugly rectangular top on my sleek rimless tank. Kind of defeats the idea of a rimless.

Whats your salinity at? Mine is at 1.0225. I was working on brining it up from a 1.0220 slowly via a water change. Ultimately reaching a goal of 1.025 over a week or two. But now I'm reading that it doesn't really matter unless its consistent.

Today I noticed something cool. The paly I bought last week looks like one of the stalks split. Im not sure how palys grow but I think this particular polyp was closed for a few days. It never fully opened like the rest. Today it opened and it was two small polyps both of them having one small mouth each. Interesting. This frag is becoming one of my favorites. Look at the upper right of the frag to see them.

Went to the lfs today to pick out a Yasha Goby - Shrimp Pair. But they didnt have any Yashas or pistol shrimp. They may get some today. I hate going to the lfs. I see shit that I dont need but want. I came home with a mini colony of palys/zoas. Not sure what they are yet. I'm thinking palys. I overpaid for them. I promised myself that I would try to stay away from buying coral from the store but instead buy most of my livestock off that local I went to last week. But I figured I would frag what I bought and bring it to him as a small gift or trade. Anyway. Here we are.

Its growing on something... and that something is growing on it. I think there is some sps growing on the same frag. The sps is orange with reddish polyps. Is this possible? Anyone know what it is?

I also bought some Revive Coral dip and some Marine Snow. I dipped all the frags. I finally saw what was crawling in and out of the frag rock I mentioned before. It looked like a small pod. But who knows what it was. I also fed all the frags with the Marine Snow. Not really sure how the coral are supposed to react to it. I'll be watching for improvements in the color and size.

A pleasant surprise from UPS:

Thats never happened before. Its coming a day early.

Be prepared for an update. This package is full of much needed goodies.

Which side should I put this bad bitch on?

The other side so it still blows toward the drain. That is where you want the bad stuff to go!

I kind of like it like this. The apposing flows make for some nice currents. Im more concerned with where I could put coral that dont want a lot of flow vs coral that need high flow. Anything I put on the left side needs to handle some heavy flow.

On a unrelated note. The zoa/paly (someone tell me what it is plz) frag I got yesterday that I suspected had some sps growing on it - did. Not sure what it is. Its orange with small red polyps and white lines going down it. Not only did I find an sps on it, I also found a mushroom underneath it. Its pretty small and im not sure what kind of condition its in. Its colorful but the mouth looks white. I'll get some photos soon.

Tomorrow i'm going to go check out some more coral frags for sale. :happydance:

At what point do these things start growing? lol.

Hey guys. Heres an update:

Recently my zoas/palys have been closing up. Not sure why. My Xenia is also dying. This morning I did a water test and everything was looking good. I went to work and came back and there was algae on the glass and rocks. So I think something is out of whack. Here are some pictures.

What seems to be happy:

Maybe this acro? Not sure.

What looks sad:

I recently took this off a piece of sps and glued it onto a rock.

Been closed for so long.

Xenia.

What do you guys think it is? Will the zoas survive? Is the light too bright? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Looks like an ammonia spike. Probably over but damage is done. WC WC WC. Did you add new fish? Verify salinity, verify kh and ca. You might never measure ammonia bytes the corals will tell you. On my tablet, sorry for short response.

Aleoepathy is usually never the real reason, but most definitely always a possibility. What kind of stuff did you test for? If you have a jump in nitrates at all, it answers whether or not you ha an ammonia spike. Run some carbon and if you already are, change it out.

No new fish. Just coral. Salinity hasn't changed recently. Ca is a little low but I just did a water change. Thank you.

What is Aleoepathy? I tested for ammonia, nitrates and nitrites. I dont have any carbon on hand. Would GFO help? I have some of that.

What's the temperature. Are you experiencing major temp swings in the day?

Temp ranges between 76 and 80. Temp swings are usually day to day. Not really throughout a day.

Aleoepathy is coral warfare. Only carbon and water changes will help it, and it would be good to seperate anything close together. Don't put arrgessive corals in front of a powerhead either for now. In regards o the algae, try to find out phosphate levels.

I'd go ahead and toss that xenia. No sense in leaving it and letting it rot in the tank. I'd pull those zoa/pally frags and dip them, they could have something crawling on them irritating them and causing them to close up like that. I had that problem a bit back and I just kinda "let it ride" and I ended up losing several frags.

Just in case you want to do a search and read up on the topic, the correct spelling is allelopathy. :)
google would have corrected him. Leave my iPhone spelling alone.
