Polarcollision
Amazing photos and beautiful tank! Thanks sunburn! Do you have a link to yours? Super awesome microscopy! Are you sure peroxide didn't make a dent in the algae?! Not even after 3 minutes? Glad you liked it! Peroxide didn't do anything but make bubbles around it. Sigh. I accidentally left it on the slide for a week and it looks a little bleached and dried. I'm so frustrated with it not dying that I'm tempted to put it back in the tank to watch it come back to life. Probably will have to drain the tank regularly and treat it directly with 100% multiple times unless there's a crab that can handle it. I might have to get some of those Duncan's if I can find them. Barrier Reef Aquariums in Renton, WA will ship if they get any more in. You are an amazing photographer! Also, the microscopy photos are really cool! Thanks Felicia! Glad you enjoyed them. The hiking and microscope are both really fun! Holy crap how did I miss your thread Wave! Does this mean I'm a ? Quote Link to comment
Polarcollision
Temperate aquarium pics! Reposting to get them on the new page. Green baby dragon (sculpin). She's not quite an inch long. At first I was worried about feeding her, but she's a little bad-### and has no problem snarfing up mysis. Momma sculpin. Whenever I come up to the tank she hops up on the highest rock waiting for her mysis. Notice the reddish patches? She turns those on when she likes her food. I think this one is a strawberry anemone Christmas tree anemone Saddleback gunnel Giant barnacle Striped hermit Limpet More strawberry anemone You know it's hot when Namara plops herself down in front of the fan 6 Quote Link to comment
Polarcollision
When you look at your aquarium every day it's hard to notice if anything is actually growing. It really just looks the same, ya know? I can't believe the growth from two months ago at the last FTS. It's finally filled in to that lush overgrown look that I love so much! AND I finally have the zoa garden that I've wanted for YEARS. I'm soo happy about this!! Fields of brilliant color and textures - everything I love about coral. And everything I love about your reefs too. The montiporas are also taking off, there are even battle lines between a few. Even the Nemo is getting bigger. She seems content, but I'll keep an eye out for signs that she needs to stretch her fins in a larger home. I only bought one acro and one mille coral to see if I could keep them alive and healthy. They're no longer as colorful as when I bought them and had started to wonder if I hit my limits as a reefkeeper. Good news, though. At least they're growing! It's sooo much slower than the others, but comparing to two months ago they're definitely taking up more space. Stuff I want to improve: • banishing that #### wiry algae • getting the Cali tort and Pink Lemonade mille to color up • banish the recurring diatom blooms for good • beat back the GSP FTS 7/5/13 Tank is now about 9 months old. It only took that long to get a shot with all three fish posing! Here's the tailspot blenny showing off. He/she needs a name! Help me out -- I'm at a loss. Here's Waldo in his favorite feeding spot right at the top of the scape. Some of the zoa garden up high More zoa garden and the colorless pink lemonade mille My favorite chalice is growing a teal skirt and more zoas! 8 Quote Link to comment

Polarcollision
Wow, I somehow just found your thread. You've got it going on in such a small footprint. Grandma used to always say diamonds come in small packages. ;-) Not that I think my tank is a diamond yet... Thanks for dropping by! Nice to hear something other than crickets playing. Colors! Pollar, what is the name of the yellow Zoas in this picture? I bought them for $10 at a frag swap, which is a steal considering they're so bright - not sure if they had a name... I'm happy to try and frag some for ya though. 1 Quote Link to comment

OK, if your clownfish does this all the time it's old news, for sure. But this little goofball has hosted the back corner glass walls since I got her. This is a big deal here! Polarcollision
RAZOR is here! I couldn't find any before/after pics of coral coloration under different lights when I was trying to decide on a replacement light for the IM Nano Sol. It's fairly easy to understand that different color temperatures will affect the reflection and phosphorescence color off coral. And that aspect I think is a matter of personal taste. But what was missing were comparison pics of how corals colored up or shifted pigmentation under different color temperatures and spectrums. So I'm going to document the color changes of my coral under the Razor for the next few weeks. For now, look above to see the appearance of each coral under the IM Nano Sol. Under that light, I set the camera to a custom white balance off the sand when the lights were set to 100% white, blue and RB for photos only. Coral were grown under 23% white and 40% blue for 6 hours a day. The tank was under black out for 3 days while the light shipped. After installing the light, I did an 80% water change to remove nutrient buildup of dieing algae and diatoms so ignore the cat hair and pissed off coral. I thought it was important to capture them when first exposed to the light to document what each looks like under a different light color temperature, before any pigmentation shifts or coloring up happens. For the Razor, I also set a custom white balance off the sand. Lights are on at 30% white and 50% blue for photos only. No post processing of color has been done to simulate what *I* see in the aquarium. To my eye, colors are more saturated than what's in the photos below. http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A152C44_zps53a5457e.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A153006_zpsca49d6df.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A153238_zpsed049362.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A152E28_zpsd4d347d7.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A153507_zpsc8717366.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A152A55_zpsa1a3485e.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A152334_zps2f0d3fe6.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A153639_zps9a4a1073.jpg.html'> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This set was taken one day later after the coral was a little more happy. http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A151F15_zpsfa5fa6a9.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A160654_zpsc7af159f.jpg.html'> http://s137.photobucket.com/user/polarcollision/media/DPP07DD071A160058_zpsb12faa81.jpg.html'> This one is supposed to be bright yellow with pink polyps. NanoTopia
Looks great Deb, the true test is time, see how your corals respond and grow under the new light. Everything should do well. I am guessing you will keep the light around a 1:4 white/blue ratio? Quote Link to comment

Polarcollision
Looks great Deb, the true test is time, see how your corals respond and grow under the new light. Everything should do well. I am guessing you will keep the light around a 1:4 white/blue ratio? Right now I'm skittish about blasting them with too much light right off so its pretty dim in there. The longest photoperiod is while I'm at work and the ratio is 30% white and 40% blue. Hopefully the extra white light with the warmer end of the spectrum will encourage pigments to come out. Then, as I arrive home from work the color shifts to 10% white and 20% blue until bedtime. That should fill in the coral's need to photosynthesize and grow under the blue lights. And I get to enjoy the actinic pop of color. Awesome Thanks! Appreciate you dropping by. It can be pretty quiet over here with me talking to myself. :-) Amazing tank setup! I'm jealous Thanks! It just takes patience (which was a really tall order for me) and a little bit of planning on where everything will go within a master vision. I was inspired by MedRed and a couple other tanks that had a sort of bonsai feel to them and allowed lots of water flow, especially since that's how corals breath and exchange nutrients/waste. Starting with tiny, tiny frags also helps because they grow into their space naturally. And it costs less. Always a plus. :-) Where's your tank thread? I'd love to take a look. I really love the detailing from this picture on this clown goby. Thanks Illu! I love that little clown goby. He's got a lot of personality. Think he's going to get named Waldo for the red stripes and always hiding out. 1 Quote Link to comment

Found out today that it's a good idea to use something internal to the rock to hold it up. The top column on mine just fell over. EeeK! This tank is really rocking it these days. Thanks! Lots of knowledge on nano-reef to stand on. Beat me to it :-) Quote Link to comment
