Polarcollision
I have a reasonably big fiji leather next to my acros. I run carbon in a reactor for all chemical warfare issues. So far so good. That's good to know! I love the green leather so much it was the first coral I bought. Would hate to give it up. Saw another 8 gallon with a leather and a few SPS too, so if you two can do it, I'm giving it a shot Quote Link to comment

Herptile
Went a little nuts buying frags. Here's the current full tank shot, running 52 days. I love the scape on this one, too. I see your cat likes to sit on the cover. Mine doesn't have a cover but my cat tasted saltwater once and thus doesn't attempt to have any further hands (paws)-on interaction with the tank other than look at it. Quote Link to comment
Polarcollision
I've noticed that green and yellow coral colors are not quite as bright as they were a few weeks ago. Possible causes suggested are low alkalinity (the person I buy a bunch of frags from says his colors fade when alkalinity drops below 7), incomplete light spectrum from LED lights, lower light intensity, and a low nutrient system. I've been testing Mg, Ca, KH, and pH every two days to get a feel for what the system is using and am thinking I'll set up an IV drip to dose Mg, and the two-part once I have a few weeks of data. The easiest tweak is light intensity/photoperiod. So today I increased my photoperiod/light intensity on the AI Nano Sol and plan increase around 3% each week until things look better (or worse): Previous Current 6am 1 - 5 - 5 6am 1 - 5 - 5 7am 10 - 20 - 20 7am 10 - 20 - 20 9am 15 - 30 - 30 9am 20 - 40 - 40 11am 20 - 40 - 40 12pm 25 - 50 - 50 12pm 30 - 50 - 50 1pm 30 - 45 - 45 4pm 20 - 45 - 45 5pm 20 - 45 - 45 7pm 10 - 40 - 40 7pm 10 - 40 - 40 9pm 4 - 20 - 30 9pm 4 - 20 - 30 10pm 0 - 20 - 20 10pm 0 - 20 - 20 11pm 0 - 4 - 4 11pm 0 - 4 - 4 Was also curious just how different the light spectrum of the AI Nano Sol is from metal halide lamps. Found the CREE data sheets and combined the spectrum graphs into one, with a metal halide spectrum graph overlaid. The AI webside lists XM-L lights in the description text, but the spec sheet lists XP-G lamps so I included both in the graph. They're fairly similar. Polarcollision
After seeing Mr. Microscope's amazing video's of his reef, I was inspired to give it a try. Filmed on a DSLR with a macro lens and 200mm extender. 1 Quote Link to comment
Belac
You should go watch 'tidalgardens' macro videos of him feeding the corals. Those are really well shot, might give you some more ideas. Video is pretty good. A bit grainy though, is that due to compression on youtube? Quote Link to comment

Belac
Silly youtube compression. I don't know what has to be done to upload in HD but you might see about doing that next time. Quote Link to comment
Polarcollision
Anyone have feedback for the BRS auto dosing pumps on a digital timer? I'm ready for mental freedom of not worrying about water stability all the time. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-2-part-doser-1-1-ml-per-minute.html Quote Link to comment
metrokat
DONT DO IT! Well, I guess it depends on the timer. I bought one of these: And successfully skyrocketed my DKH to 16+. The timer is absolute BS. The doser will work fine with a quality timer, don't be afraid to spend upwards of $25 on it. Here's a link to the crappy digital timer: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100685884/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=digital+timer&storeId=10051#.UP9QPqFdc8o stay away. Polarcollision
Urg. It doesn't have very good reviews. About to click the button for a reefkeeper lite... DONT DO IT! Polarcollision
So this little snail appeared today. Didn't know what it was so I snatched it out of the tank and into tupperware quarantine it went. Found it on a great photo ID thread: a stomatella snail that mows down algae. Yay! The cute little thing can stay. Snails can be cute, right? Quote Link to comment
Belac
Lucky! I have been wanting one. I think all snails are cute. Quote Link to comment
Polarcollision
Reefkeeper lite arrived today! Dosing pumps, too! omgomgomg omgomgomg omgomgomg Got them set up to dose fresh water into measuring cups for now--until I'm sure they can be trusted with actual chemicals. Namara unpacked the box. Doesn't she look like she's giving instructions? And Jasper inspected the installation Quote Link to comment
Polarcollision
Lucky! I have been wanting one. I think all snails are cute. If it breeds, I'll send you one. :-) Doesn't it look like it inspired an anime character? 1 Quote Link to comment
metrokat
Snazzy new signature! Jasper made it in there too. Aww. You will like the controller, I've not used a RKL but what is not to like about a module that controls stuff ya? Quote Link to comment
markalot
Thanks for posting all the links. Nice tank, and when I discovered a new local reef shop I think I dropped, uh, an unspeakable amount of cash buying good looking frags. I have to avoid going there to keep from buying more.
