matth6761
very nice looking tank. What are the LFS like up there? I went to one called the deep but it was not there last time I went, not sure if it moved or closed. The Deep moved to the corner of Hartnell & Churn Creek. Great new location with a huge shallow coral tank and a ton of fish. One of the best family run fish stores in the north state, IMO. The other one in town is Aquariums Plus. Not a lot of fish there, but they have a pretty good selection of coral. Quote Link to comment

matth6761
Today marks the one year anniversary of the establishment of my 20 gallon nano-reef. A lot has changed in a year and I've put a lot of work (and $$) into the tank. Thought I'd throw up some before and after pics to celebrate. Enjoy! tangov559
wow..great looking tank...what else do you have in your ac70? are you also running any type of carbon? Quote Link to comment
matth6761
wow..great looking tank...what else do you have in your ac70? are you also running any type of carbon? The only thing in the AC 70 is chaeto. It grows pretty quick and I cut out about a fist full of it a month. I run a bag of carbon in the DFS filter if I think it needs it. Tried running chemi-pure in it a while back for a few months but didn't see any noticeable difference. Quote Link to comment
matth6761
The mini snail pack comes out in force about 2 hours after the lights go off. They do a damn good job at keeping the rocks free off algae. I have a feeling the green monti is the culprit for my low calcium level. I ordered a Reef Octopus HOB skimmer this weekend. Got my tracking number today. Quote Link to comment
matth6761
Got him a week ago. I'm hoping it'll eat all the starfish that are eating all my coraline. Today's the first day that he's come out of hiding. Oh, and what's up with the freaky sponge eh? Quote Link to comment
nor_cal_nano
So you don't run any kind of filter floss at all? Quote Link to comment
matth6761
So you don't run any kind of filter floss at all? Not really. I don't like the idea of unconsumed food just sitting there rotting and polluting my water. I'd rather the detritus stay suspended in the water column as long as possible to become food for the clean up crew and corals. The water is usually crystal clear again about 30 mins after I feed the fish. Quote Link to comment
swayd
Wow after looking at your tank I am kinda disappointed I got the 20L lol. Tank looks great and its nice to see progress and the pictures of growth. Quote Link to comment
matth6761
April Update: The new Reef Octopus BH1000 protein skimmer installed on the tank last month has been pulling some seriously acrid brown garbage from my water column... ... and the tank has never looked better. The SPS garden is thriving. The pink monti cap and the acropora are in the midst of a heated turf war. Wonder which will win. They really are that color. Come see for your self! The acans are really starting to show their color. The deep-water lobo is fat and happy. The duncan has started growing new heads. Full setup shot. Quote Link to comment
_Mitch_
Wow, looks AMAZING! One of the nicest reefs I've seen so far on here. TOTM quality easily. Could you please tell me what lighting set-up you've got going on there? Thanks so much. Quote Link to comment

Best combo that I've tried that gives the corals enough drive to grow, but still makes the colors pop. Edited April 4, 2011 by matth6761 Quote Link to comment

jtgordon20
I'm going to give that bulb combo a try if I go back to my 4 bulb T5. Tank looks great. I know how hard aquascaping a 20H can be and yours looks great. Quote Link to comment
