I agree, the black sand was a poor choice for several reasons.

Still hairy....but its really cool watching this tank.......pompom found a home in the back

Your cool blue macro is one iridescent dictyota sp. (A definitive id would require a microscope, but you are in the dictyota bartayresii or close relative range) If you keep your tank wild like you have been, you will find it will one day be dominate, but then die back, and then grow back, etc.... Very seasonal based on high nutrients. A brown algae, it reflects blue under certain conditions.

I love this thread by the way, I have been checking it out for awhile now.

Thanks again for the kind words John!

You wouldn't happen to have an ID for that other blue macro, the one with the more branch like appearance ?

I hope to get some shots tomorrow, way overdue for an update here.

your rocks look like mine....

you wish..... :P

i have the same algae. I got some florida porties on the way for my biotope.

Cool ! Pichers please!

I'm surprised I was able to save the ones that I have in this tank. They have grown, slowly, but seem happy enough.

20 gal rating? If thats what the subcurrent is rated at I would call bs as well.

Seems good for this tank tho, perhaps a 10...but only as a supplemental unit.

edit-bad spellin'. :P

Plugging along here.

Macros grow like crazy, constant trimming and such.

Some go crazy, then die back and others take over and do the same.

Perhaps not the most aesthetically pleasing display to most peeps, but I love watching this tank.

How many macros can we count?? :o

So I started with two mini nems. A few days ago the tiny one went walkabout, I have no idea where it is.

Then, a couple days ago the remaining mini looked retracted, and unhappy tucked way under an overhang.

I was bummin' to say the least..

But today......

:happydance:omgomgomg

The larger mini has split they are both visible here, not the best shots I know and had to use the flash on one angle due to its position way under there.

Looks awesome on my computer! In fact, I've decided you will win. So I should probably stop trying.

:P

What is that algae (I think) front and center that looks kind of like a Kenya tree? Could we get a close-up?
