lookin great! Ill update with pics after this huge shipment im getting in 2 weeks! I am super worried about moving the tank to my new home in august, nice to see it can be done even with lots of corals=)

oh and btw good news! I am getting paid 200 to let this company film my aquarium for 2 hours! they do the dvds for like screen savers on Plasma tvs, pretty awesome! (aka the funding for my new shipment)

OMG you are using your tank for porn! haha, how did you get hooked up with that deal?

Stevie - where did you get the Nemo character "Gil" from hanging on the wall? I see you left the essential items for last such as your USB rocket launcher.

he came out of a claw machine some one gave it to me after they won it knowing I was into saltwater. So up on the wall it went.

I have to break down my desk yet but everything else is out of this office. I am leaving my work area for last even though I should be cracking on it soon.

OMG read the entire thread

;) thank you

ha they responded to my coral wanted ad on craigslist!

that is pretty cool. I would be so nervous that a coral woudn't open up the day of the filming or I would forget to scrape some algae.

Hi,

A newbie from the UK saying HI. Spent the last week reading through all 103 pages! :o

Very interesting and informative... :)

I have the RSM 130D.

Very happy with the tank, but like many of you i guess a few areas might need a little improving (skimmer, heater).

Tank still looks awesome buddy.

I must admit I do miss that orange cap tho.

Mandy looks pretty happy too.

Great stuff. B)

The orange cap is missed here too. I wonder if it would have faired better with the new lighting. It grew pretty fast then just faded and died, the purple one may have blocked out too much of the stock lighting it was growing above and faster than the orange one.

After the move and it recovers I am going to look into buying more corals to fill in the blank spots. I don't buy a whole lot for this tank like others do but that has given room for growth.

Stevie- Help me spend my money. 1 week into the new RSM and I am not happy with the stock skimmer like you and others have stated. I feel that 1 week of skimming is ample time to break-in, and settle down with the micro-bubbles. I can only assume that the bubbles are coming from the skimmer as I get 0 to none with it tuned off. Will the Tunze be a night and day difference? I also am looking forward to the reduction in noise. I have yet to cut the black filter in half per your recommendation. How does cutting the black foam help? I left it full for the time being to help with the new tank cycle and to help clean up the stuff. My rocks are releasing small bubbles. Is this part of the cylce?

Please put me in line for 1 media rack and 1 Tunze collection cup. What month do you expect to be up and running? I suppose I could run the stock Tunze cup with the back lid open until then.

A general rule would be to give any skimmer at least two weeks to break in and prove itself. It also depends on bioload of the tank. But the RSM skimmer has proven time and time again to be a huge failure. It has microbubble issues and is very loud, also it does not collect.

The Tunze is a night and day difference. It is super quiet and produces very low amonts of bubbles. Any skimmer in a small setup will have some microbubbles it is hard to get around that fact.

Cutting your sponge won't do anything. The earlier models of tanks had a very large sponge that liked to make bubbles as water passed through. Yours should be smaller from the get go as Red Sea did try and correct that issue. Overall filter floss is a much better option anyway, sponges are dirty and can lead to nitrates.

Bubbles from your rocks can be from the cycle. It also could be from the skimmer and the rocks are just catching the bubbles.

The main issue with the stock cup is that the hood can't open or close without removing the cup. You still should be able to close the lid. Even before I had the media rack I ran the Tunze with the stock cup and had the lid closed. The media rack helps even further as it lowers the water level in the rear and lets you run the skimmer at a lower level. The only reason for the cup is that I was sick of removing Tunze's everytime I did a water change or maintained the tank.

I will be back open in April, I don't know exacly what part of the month. I am not going to open until I have a large stocking of all products so I don't play catch up. I can see a large amount of orders coming the first few weeks of turning that website back on.

Stevie - my 1 and only sponge that came with my tank is black and about 4" square with a corner cut-off for the skimmer cord and air line. I do plan on getting filter floss. Should I run only filter floss? I'll get the Walmart flavor of filter floss. I think you were asked about 20 times on another thread by other readers. :)

The sponge that came with mine was about 4" thick and I cut that in half when I still ran it. Then they started including a sponge that was about half that thick to help with micorbubble problems.

I like running floss only. Sponges never really get cleaned and trap and hold detritus for a long time which can lead to nitrates similar to bioballs.

The walmart stuff is very popular.

Ok, I will cut my foam block down a bit. My tank is a new 130D. Maybe they reverted back to the 4" piece. I'll get to a Walmart eventually.

My current filtration....

4" black cube filter on top of skimmer pump.

Stock skimmer, soon to be replaced with Tunze 9002.

Chemi-Pure in chamber of death. Soon to be replaced with Chemi-Pure Elite and Purigen. Phosphates are at .5 to 1. Every other water parameter looks good.

Hey Stevie you mandarin boy is a cutie! Or so my female says!

Tank really looks great, and you are always helping everyone, well done!!!

Is there a particular reason that they eat so much? I hardly know anything about them but they dont seem to be extremely active swimmers like anthias or tangs.

Link to comment

They have a very high metabolism and they never stop moving. Mine cruises around the tank all day long picking at the rocks and sand for pods. When that rods food hits the tank it goes nuts over it. nom nom nom
