holy! $500?

...or do you mean the frag was small?

It was a 1" frag. What I understand about the history of it's name "$500 efflo" is a frag of it once sold for that amount.

The name. 😆

Can you imagine:

"I have a car for sale.  It's the $24,000 pickup."

"That's a lot for a used pickup."

"No the price isn't $24,000.  That's the name."

🙄

Well since my acropora have grown out to a point where they're almost touching, it's time to do some fragging. So what I've decided to do with the frags is give them away for free to local reefers with an understanding that if my tank ever crashes, I get frags of them back.  So majority of the frags will make their way into seasoned hobbyists, but I also decided to give easier sps like the red and green digitatas  to reefers new to sps.

Changes to the reef are in the works...

I might have some room in my tank for a frag or two

I'm happy to see the Walt Disney Acro coming down in price locally. Now I've got to find a spot on the rock work, not likely though until I remove or chop branches from resident colonies.

These two favor colonies grown from small frags have been sold and picked up in a few days. I do hate that they'll be gone but it's necessary because of their sweepers reaching out and getting close to the bases of the acros above.

End of the month update pic. Last pic before some changes happen. The two favia colonies mentioned in the previous post have already been sold. Next, some acro hedge trimming. Updates will be done as they happen.

Your tank and those corals are just beautiful. You have done a great job.

Thank you for the kind words. One thing I've learned with this tank is that I overstocked it with frags in the first 9 months. I've had a visual goal of where I wanted the tank to look like with corals grown out but with sps, they grow however they want. So some frags got lost to others encrusting over them.

I'm feeling a bit under the weather today and wasn't up for work so much but there's nothing like reefing to lift the spirit, so I got to some things that had to be done.

First, so the clam has been somewhat flopping around since he bailed off the rock with the Favia colony I eventually sold, so I made it a clam rock out of glue and sand. It looks pretty happy at the moment, but I see a small gap between the underside and rock so I may have taken it out to remove some material so Mr. Clam can sit flat.

Second, I was slowly losing this Cali Tort Sps over the last few months. Stn over a few polyps here and there every few days. With everything else in the tank doing well and growing, I chalked it up as some kind of infection. I took it out and fragged it up and dipped it in Revive. I'll be passing out frags to local reefers to see they can save it and grow it out and hopefully make it's way back to me.

Here is a before and during the stn. Pretty weird how it was still growing though.

Third, shaping of the sps colonies has begun. Some have overshadowed others and starting to grow into each other. I'm fragging to shape up the reef, kinda like hedge trimming I guess, to allow new growth. Frags from the colonies will be given to local reefers as a bank frag just in case my system crashes.

Heres a few fresh-cut frags...I love the gyres because It gives me a platform lay them on as I get the plug ready with glue.

kinda excited...I'll be picking up some new sps frags from a local reefer within an hour.  So stoked I had to post before I pick them up, lol. So new pics and update coming up! The only thing is I really don't know where I'm gonna put them in the reef, absolutely no room! Oh the dilemma when dealing with the reef addiction, it's real!

Thank you fellow reefers!

So I picked up these three sps frags Saturday from left to right...JF Fox Flame, RRU Bananarama, and  TGC Cherry Bomb. Pic obviously taken under heavy blue spectrum and the colors aren't great yet, so I included pics that hopefully they'll end up at.

Here's how they should end up looking(crossing my fingers). Fox flame on the left and Cherry bomb on the right. I couldn't find a colony of the bananrama though.

Equipment update: I bought these acrylic wings that the manufacturer of my lighting fixture, Illumagic, made for their new supplement lights but I'm using it to hold my reefbrite fixture.  It's really suppose to be a pair of these wings for each side but being frugal I'm using one per side and added wired supports on the ends.

I have a pvc placeholder with weights on the back side of the fixture to balance the weight for now because I'm deciding whether to add another reefbrite or wait 7 weeks for illumagics supplemental lighting called vitamini to be available.  I can wait because I'll most likely take advantage of the Black Friday sale coming soon.

The wings are a great idea to extend the lights 4-5" inches away and at an angle to illuminate the shadowed areas around the coral the main fixture creates.
