Tigahboy
Nice! I like the rockwork. Is that an actual tonga branch or a fake rock branch? I feel SOOO far behind now. Haha. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
It's scrounged from the rock bin at the LFS, I think it's actual tonga branch to be honest. A couple of the other pieces are "real reef" types from a separate bin, and there's also some fiji mixed in, along with a small bit of several year old cultured pukani that I pulled from the 20 long. All cured and clean looking. The piece that the hitchhikers are on looks like one of those cement pucks some wholesalers sell that has several differnt softies mounted to- I grabbed it specifically because of the zoas on it, it may stay or get thrown in the 40 breeder once it's up to make more room. The other side is pretty much flat. 1 Quote Link to comment

Lingwendil
About six years ago I gave away 3 40gallon tubs full of beautifully growth covered tonga branch when I broke down my setups for a move, I'm sick when I think about it now. Times sure have changed 😞 2 Quote Link to comment

Lingwendil
Forgot to post, I found another hitchhiker with my rock- I also got a fine felt polishing pad in the filter, using a bit of plastic canvas from the craft section at Wal-Mart. I slipped in place of the stock filter cartridge, and then happily found that the cartridge will still fit backwards directly in front of it :) I need to buy a bulk roll of filter pad, but I'll run the fine felt stuff for now since there is still a bit of particulates from the sand coming up. The original cartridge will stay for now too, may as well since it has carbon that may be useful to stay in during what will likely be a very soft cycle. I don't usually run carbon on smaller salt setups at any time other than cycling or special circumstances. So far I really like this little filter! Pretty versatile and affordable. 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm debating whether or not to run a single fixture for both tanks in a "chimera" configuration, where each tank has it's own array- one fresh, one reef, or if I want to simply build a single reef fixture for the contest tank and stay naturally lit on the fresh. Hmmm. If I find a suitable heatsink small enough to do just the BlueAcro board with a couple added stars for supplement I may just go with natural light on the fresh and LED for the reef. Time to dig through the stash. Quote Link to comment

Colors look great by the way! It's a board that Theatrus did for me using the Luxeon C, with a spot for a SemiLEDs 3535 footprint for the violet- CH1: 1xroyal blue, 1x mint, 1x 5700k 90CRI cool white, 1x cool blue CH2: 3x royal blue, 1x 420nm violet Versus the "usual" config with the Luxeon Z- I really like it, but I find supplementing it with an additional royal blue and cyan is a bit of an improvement. I think if I were to do it again I would probably go with a cyan instead of the mint, as I usually run my white channel a bit lower and may not need the added brightness of the mint, but the cyan does a lot for helping color look natural. 3 Quote Link to comment

What are the dimensions of those pucks? They look very professionally done--someone here on NR did those for you? Do you mind sharing what you paid for them? You could always PM me if you don't want to broadcast it. Quote Link to comment

Lingwendil
Well, moved over the yellow polyps from my 20 long (that tank is a mess) after a couple rounds of peroxide dips to clear them of caulerpa holdfasts and cyano. Pretty old school coral for sure :) The shroom went for a walk too. Getting a smidge of algae on the sand and glass, so I did a gallon or so water change. Current lighting is the LED strip that came with my Marineland contour, just to have something going for now until the LED rig is finished. Might grab some cheaper frags tomorrow :) 7 Quote Link to comment

Lingwendil
Moved over the duncan and leptastrea frag from the 20 long, and cut some glass for the top. Haven't finished a light yet, but it gets a few hours of partial sunlight daily which the yellow polyps seem to love. Not much else to add. 4 Quote Link to comment
