Wonderboy
Looking fantastic! Awesome hungry little chalice! Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
Small update- Moved the yellow polyps to the 40 breeder, and put in a spare koralia nano. I might swap the filter out for something else for more flow but not sure yet. Monti is doing very well. Getting some cyano but nothing too bad. 3 Quote Link to comment
Wonderboy
How have things been going? Did you switch out the filter? 1 Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
No changes really, just been leaving it be. Been busy and money has been tight so no new additions. Growth slowed enough that I think I may need to start supplementing calcium. Red macro is happy on the filter tube. Mushroom split, there's now three babies next to it :) Loving that cyphastrea and monti :) 1 Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
That pavona is ready to go on a piece of rock so it spreads down, the whole frag plug is covered now. 3 Quote Link to comment

Lingwendil
couple shots of the shrimp tank, to show the .5mm sized babies, I lost the last dario (he was a couple years old) so the shrimp have been breeding like crazy. went from nine to a couple dozen. Some more terrible pics of the reef tank, the color is waaaaay off, and some aren't focused well. showing off those nice mushrooms- That red macro sure does like the filter intake tube! That vermetus snail on the piece on the right is pretty neat. that meteor shower is my favorite, spy that vermetus in the back- Baby chalice not really growing. I think I need to supplement something. Maybe just dose calcium? 6 Quote Link to comment
Christopher Marks
Hey there @Lingwendil! 🙂 Can you believe it has been 7 months already? We missed out on your July FTS but you're right on track with your journal. This is a friendly reminder to post your final competition FTS and a 1 to 2 paragraph recap of your experience in the pico reef competition. Be sure to share your future plans for your pico reef as well, will it continue forward or get an upgrade? The competition ends on Sunday October 27th at midnight! Thank you for being a part of the Old School Pico Reef Competition! ❤️ 1 Quote Link to comment

Lingwendil
Final full tank shot! My goal for this tank was to have a simple, affordable, and low maintenance miniature reef tank that would share a light fixture with my 2.5 planted tank. I have very little disposable income and wanted something that would look full much sooner. I have a usual trend to go with very simple equipment, and went for something different than I usually do with this build. I used a cheaper, smaller filter (Azoo mignon 150) shoved a betta heater in it, and cut my own media to fit. I eventually added a koralia nano showerhead to supplement the Azoo filter, as I didn't want to replace the well established filter to get more flow. I built a light fixture out of leftovers from other projects, and hooked it up over both tanks. I traded some rock from another tank to an LFS, and added a few frags. I scavenged a cleanup crew from my other tank, and ordered some red macro. Then all that was left was leaving it to grow. I found that it was a very easy to maintain setup, and it quickly became my favorite tank that I had kept in quite a while. For the future I think I may replace the koralia with a canister filter, and I may upgrade to a larger HOB filter, but I'm in no hurry. The tank is doing well, and I would primarily wish to start working in it more to get better growth. I think a miniature ATO with some calcium dosing may be in order as well. Thanks for all the kind words, and good luck on everyone else's tank! 4 Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
Final shot of both tanks, for an idea how they look next to eachother- Here's that monti, love how it's plating! 7 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Congratulations on being in the finals. Such a nice little tank. Great side by side set up. Your DIY light got some incredible growth 2 thumbs up. Some impressive corals but I think my favorite might be the Old School Yellow Polyps. I have not seen them in years. They got a bad reputation as being too invasive and covering other corals. Becoming so unpopular that they are not stocked at LFS any more. Maybe you will start a come back. Good luck. 4 Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
Quick update on the tank. Not much has changed until just this last week. I traded a gallon bag of red ochtodes macroalgae from my 40 gallon breeder to some local guys and ended up with some frags for the pico. I now have added GSP, three more varieties of Montipora, a small hammer, and a bit of Pocillopora. Tank will be transferred to the AIO contest tank once the new tank is ready. 3 1 Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
This tank looks stuffed. Quote Link to comment
Lingwendil
Absolutely. The upgrade will be way better. It's actually pretty difficult to give everything room in here. 2 Quote Link to comment
