I kept the purple on, its not even an option to go full black at this point, if anything I may try and paint the black lid white to tie in with the stand and see how that looks. I added salt tonight. Starting Dr. Tims fishless cycle tomorrow. 3 Quote Link to comment

shaner014
Tank is currently Cycling with Dr. Tim's Fish-less system. Day 3. Water is quite cloudy, almost "smokey" I would say. Hadn't experienced this in the past with using cured rock, I assume its a combination of particulate from my dry rock, all of the epoxy used, and the Dr Tim's stuff. Kind of caught me off guard, but way too soon to worry. I test fit my skimmer last night, now that the water level in the chambers is somewhat stable. It did not go as well as the dry runs did... So much so that I initially listed it for sale here, but cooler heads have prevailed and I am going to try modifying it a bit more to allow for precise adjustments. It's the CadLights PLS-50 Elite V2. Not the skimmers fault at all, I am asking a lot to squeeze it in my tank. I ordered a hanging lid kit from @DaveFason to clean off the back wall some and allow more room for the skimmer as well. So that will help! Test kits come in the mail today, so I'll see if any of the ammonia has been consumed yet and dose a bit more as per their method. I'm hoping my rock is enough surface area for the stuff to colonize. I did leave the old school bio-balls in the middle chamber as well (these will get pulled once I get a media rack from @StevieT and plan to use the bottom of his Media Rack for an xport bio block) I'll update the first post with current equipment now! 2 1 Quote Link to comment
skyscraper2290
Cloudy water shouldn’t be anything to worry about, I used the Red Sea kit when I cycled my tank and after dosing the water would usually get cloudy because of a bacterial bloom. I will still see it after using NoPox which I believe is primarily ethanol and vinegar to help feed the BB. 1 Quote Link to comment

shaner014
13 days in with Dr. Tim's and also supplementing with Microbacter 7. I had a drop in ammonia on day 7 and added another quarter dose (Dr. Tim's says to re-dose ammonia to 2ppm, but I was trying to limit Nitrates in the end somewhat, and the higher ammonia can slow the cycle I read). Anyways, the tank ended up at 2ppm again anyways, and has been sitting at 2ppm ammonia now for 6 days. I need to get a Nitrate test to see if anything has actually happened or if it's stalled out and the bacteria was inert. Plan is to grab a 2-3 pound live rock from my LFS, along with a nitrate test kit, tomorrow. Hopefully the small rock will seed the tank a bit and get things moving along. Also hoping to add some @NanoRox products soon! The pico pack should fit perfect on my back wall above the arch! 1 Quote Link to comment

I’m not sure it’ll fit with my idea for a scoly in that space however. I’m fully expecting not to win, with my luck and all, but if I do I’ll be adding the pico rox to the shipment! The “Hotel Palythoa” will become a second island in a mimalist EVO 13.5 I’m getting going as well. Quote Link to comment

shaner014
Made a DIY lid tonight. Will work till I decide on my long term needs from a fancy lid. Cycle shows Trite’s finally. Something is happening in there... stil want to add a seed rock but haven’t made it to LFS. Grabbing a utility cart to make into a rolling Water Change and Acclimation/Frag Dip table. Ruined my last desk top that was next to the tank with all the water drips. Happy New Year! 3 Quote Link to comment
shaner014
Cycle still stalled... maybe tomorrow will be the day I seed it with some live rock. API still showing 1-2ppm ammonia, have had 0.25 trites just show up yesterday (could have sworn it was sooner but read back!), and 0 trates as of tonight. Got the cart built though. Will make life easier for sure. Quote Link to comment
