Picking up this algae reactor on Sunday (not a bad deal at %65 off). 

Not sure how am I going to use it or where but I am pretty sure that I’ll figure it out. (There is a plan for dedicated Pipefish tank). 

 

Frag tank is doing great. Due to unexpected re-scape of IM30L tank some corals were moved in here. GSP is humongous. It’s actually a man-made rock with HUGE magnet imbedded in it. It might go on the back wall some time in the future. 

Bubble-tip is doing exceptionally well. Eats well and holds its bubbles. Other then tinny bit of turf algae, tank is algae free. Temperature (inside the cabinet) is steady at 77F which makes an easy work for the heater. 

UV light is on for 13hrs at night to complement fuge light on keeping PH up. It also helps keeping the cabinet cooler during a day. AI Prime is on acclimation mode at %60. I like this light. 

Flow from RFG is spot on. No need for wave maker. (Quick pic) 

 

Main tank, IM30L is doing great but I had some incident earlier that forced me to re-scape. Corals got pissed. Perhaps I should try to keep my hands out of the tank........

Light intensity was raised to %85. 

Flow on return was toned down a bit to let the fuge and skimmer work more efficiently. Alk is stady between 8.5- 9.2. 

Gonna check Mg and Ca over the weekend. That’s it for the updates this week.

Why not. 

My scape is (was) based on 3 rocks (a single rock is a collection of smaller rocks bonded naturally by calcification and coralline algae) that seemed to be pretty sturdy. Unfortunately, one of the rocks slide down (one on the right side) while trying to glue down one of the frags. I put too much pressure on it and rock went tumbling down. Several corals got demaged (made small frags out of that) or knocked off the rock. It got me so frustrated that in 10 minutes time, I rearrange almost everything and decided on new scape. 

It actually works out as I had issues with leather and tourches getting to close to my SPS corals. Now, they are on their own island. Also, fish seems to have a whole lot more room to swim around.   

Still need to get some epoxy stick to secure rock to the base and figure out where to place certain corals. But overall, I am fine with it and glad that it end up with minimal damage. 

Trying to place most green/purple corals on the left rock, reds, yellow, orange pink on their right side rock and mix bag in the middle.

Thanks and I will. These torches are bulletproof and grow quite nicely. When time comes to trim, I’ll keep you in mind.

Yeah, they do add nice motion to the tank. Probably the reason why they have always been popular among reefing hobbyists.

My used to walk around the tank a lot till they found the spot they liked. They like to be fed but you probably already knew that.

How about a leptoseris of some sort? They have a unique look and some cool colorations out there.

Color of Jack is something I would be interested  in as far as color theme for this rock. 

 

I might look into some encrusting species of montis or chalice.

Picked up the algae reactor. It’s not PaxBellum but looks and feels exactly the same. It’s 24” height so equivalent to midsize PaxBellum. Similar size, heat sink, overall design. If anyone knows who made this reactor pls chime in.

No they didn’t.  I assumed it was as it looks and feels exactly the same. Not sure who makes it. It cost me $200.
