Pjanssen
In the mean time, tank is doing okay. Still battling algae on some of the gorgs. Keeping up on weekly water changes. not much has changed, I don't feel like it's photo worthy right now. Working on it though. Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Even with a hic up or two it is nice to hear that after 3 years it is still up and running. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
Still battling algae-the corky finger is pretty much covered. Cleaned it off today but not sure that it will make it. But some photos: FTS front FTS end FTS back 2 Quote Link to comment

Pjanssen
@billygoat, do you know what this is? I picked it up while diving this weekend (yes, it's legal). body is light tan and polyps are yellow under natural light. 2 Quote Link to comment

A little research makes me think it's a tan candelabra? 2 Quote Link to comment

In keeping with the Caribbean theme, there aren’t many corals I can get. I have a few zoanthids in there, but they aren’t really doing great. I just ordered some more macros. Considering some sun corals if I can find them reasonably, but it is illegal to harvest them in Florida so I will have to look for a Haitian source or something. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
Ordered some macros from Gulf Coast Eco Systems (https://www.live-plants.com/index.htm). Wow! I probably got 2-3 times more than I ordered. I'm dividing between the 2 tanks, but there is likely some that I won't be able to use. I've got some work ahead of me. 3 Quote Link to comment

Hopefully I have everything labeled properly, If not I'm open to corrections. FTS a little later. 2 1 Quote Link to comment

There is a whole 1 qt container of caulerpa that I'm not even going to attempt to put in, and a bunch that is going into the 29. A refugium would be nice. .....Such a mess. 3 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
I just can't get excited about this tank anymore. IDK what to do about it. I pulled out a bucket of rocks that got left outside for I don't know how long. Currently acid curing them, followed by a bleach cure for a week then maybe I'll rescape. 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
The NPS gorgeous that I bought several weeks ago has finally decided to come out and eat! I started feeding Polyp Labs polyp booster and added oyster eggs along with the reef chili that I had been feeding. I also have moved it to an area with a little more flow. The Corky continues to struggle. I cut about 1/2 of it away so maybe it will be able to focus energy to what is left. 3 Quote Link to comment

That's a good sign for sure. The addition of "smelly" food like the polyp booster and oyster eggs is an excellent strategy to try and get NPS gorgonians to show their polyps. Extending polyps costs the coral energy, and if the coral doesn't get a good return on that energy it begins to slowly waste away. So convincing it that there's enough good stuff in the water to extend can be the most challenging part. This first extension of polyps is a critical time for an NPS gorg. It must be convinced that your tank is a good environment with plenty of food, or it will "give up" and kill itself in an attempt to conserve energy. Feed it a lot if you can. Five, even six times a day would not be a bad idea - pretty much whenever it is showing polyps, I would feed it. You can reduce feedings later once it has become accustomed to the tank. 👍 Observe it at night too if you can. Sometimes NPS gorgs extend their polyps more readily once the lights are off. It's really difficult to keep those things alive, but I am rooting for you! 🤞 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
Seriously considering breaking this tank down. The NPS and 1 or 2 of the other gorgs can go into the 29. Does anyone know if I can put a Royal Gramma and/or a green banded goby in a 29 with 2 percula clowns, a dwarf (not aggressive) hawkfish and 2 smallish engineer gobies? I know it would be a lot of fish in there, and probably pretty risky for the basslet and especially the green banded goby, but I don't know what else to do with them-I'm kind of attached to my fish 😛 1 Quote Link to comment

Of course with live animals there is always the possibility of interpersonal conflict. I never dreamed that my established carpenter wrasse would go into hiding when I added my last batch of fish! 2 Quote Link to comment
